Good point to NOT count the guarenteed bronze.

I had to finally give up the "pack only" build for the Battle Corgis. The team is mediocre at best, with several bronze players throughout. After pulling around 25 packs or so the last couple of weeks, I still could not get any upgrades. It was normally 5 live irons and a low rated live bronze. Every. Single. Time. And usually in that order.

My other teams have had no luck either. They're always low Lives or Iron Unsungs.

pretty good luck so far

Just starting PT for the first time. I did spend money to buy 25000 pp which I used on 4 gold and 5 regular. I have earned enough in the entry pool to get another 7 regular packs plus the 6 I got to start. This is the break down of my top cards so far:

The diamond came from one of the regular packs, and I only got 1 gold in each of the gold packs, the rest were bronze of iron.

On a side note does anyone know what time the entry pool teams get moved to the rookie league?

Far be it from me to tell anyone else how to play the game. But I view the purchase of PPs as I would a cheat code for a game. For me, I've always felt, what's the point to cheat codes? Particularly for sports sims. Unless you're the Patriots, there are no cheat codes in sports and sims are designed to put us into that world. So why ruin the sim.

Again, for me, having played PT the first two years with my wallet, I always lost interest in the game by June. Now, using patience and living vicariously for those rewards for achievements by my teams so I can accumulate enough PPs for another pack that might give a Gold I can sell for 5,000 which would give me 5 chances at a Diamond or a Perfect. That keeps me engaged.

I mentioned in another thread that I realized that PTXX is still going and my one team was a Gold level team. So while I never did anything with it after about July 4th, it was still in Gold (with a couple of bumps up and down from Diamond). Because I did enjoy the process of opening packs, I went back and ripped 25 with some accumulated PPs. I immediately within those 25 packs pulled a George Brett 100. So, I threw that into the AH and I now have 130,000 PPs. But, I don't care. Those PPs are tainted in my mind.

Again, I'm not saying everyone should play this way. But, I think its the best way. It takes patience. It takes resilience. But its a hell of a lot more fun.

That Diamond drop rate (on a very small sample size) is unexpected so far.

Just to throw an additional $.02 in...

I've got a Dynasty Report going in that forum so I'm tracking pack stats. Recently sold 99 Nap Lajoie for 65 packs for my PO team. The stats...

390 total cards
  • 0 Perfect
  • 3 Diamond (2 Historical, including Peak Albert Pujols, 1 Live)
  • 12 Gold (3 Historical, 9 Live)
  • 22 Silver (6 Historical, 16 Live)
  • 141 Bronze
  • 212 Iron
Overall opened 252 packs, which is 1,512 cards:
1 Perfect (Yelich)
9 Diamond (4 historical - 99 Peak Pujols, 99 Lajoie, Peak Dave Smith, 3B Bill Bradley)

And I did it without the sense of entitlement that comes with spending hundreds of dollars on PPs. Pardon me while I high five the Karma God.
Good for you for making the tough decision to part with such a crazy card; seriously, I pulled 99 Roger Connor and 99 Rube Marquard in early on in XX, but didn't have the heart to sell them. If you want to build a team quickly, that's definitely the way to go. However, not everyone must play according to your rules. If people want to rip packs first and work the AH second, that's their prerogative.

I can all but guarantee that if you spent the money to grab 800 packs yet failed to get a single perfect - which, as noted above is merely a ~2% chance - you would be extremely upset, too. You may not publicly complain about it, but you would certainly be upset nonetheless.

No need to mock and rub it in the wounds. Just because he's upset doesn't mean he also feels entitled to perfect cards simply because he dropped hundreds of dollars. Those emotions are not mutually exclusive.

wow. Your post is even worse than OPs.

You got extremely lucky with that pull. For that to happen, some other players need to get very unlucky. It's not a good look rubbing it into those players faces.

I have a personal philosophy of always mocking self entitlement. LOL.

Ripping first is necessary before you can work the AH if you don't use your wallet. That's not a philosophy. That's just how it works.

And. BTW, I did qualify one of my posts that I recognize I don't expect everyone to play my way. But that dude was clearly entitled.

Once I get a big sale through the AH, I'll do this for PT 21. But I just ripped 25 packs in PTXX.

Iron 89 (59.33%)
Bronze 46 (30.67%)
Silver 9 ( 6.00%)
Gold 2 (2.00%)
Perfect 2 (2.00%)

Crap packs (minimum pull 5 Iron + 1 Bronze) = 5 20.00%

I'm going to do this three more times in PTXX and I'll post the results.

I have not been tracking PT21 pulls, but I will going forward.

For perspective - in Hearthstone they have an algorithm that balances the pack pull RNG so there is heatup and cooldown and you're assured to have quite steady overall 'luck' with your pulls. The downside is this makes opening packs a little more boring in that game. Also that game has different considerations because they have no Auction House.

I have no problem with the way pulls are in OOTP, maybe just a slight critique that the gold/diamond/historical packs are just a bit too high on the PP cost side compared to the value of a standard pack.

You got extremely lucky with that pull.
Of course I got lucky. Its ALL luck. Either good or bad. You can only play the percentages. For instance, its always better, if your goal is to pull Diamonds and Perfects to always go the Standard Pack route. You have 5 chances to get a premium card instead of reducing that chance by 80% in order to guarantee 1 gold card.

Cool. Everyone knows that. The point I was trying to make is that when you have good luck, and other players have bad luck, it's not very nice to rub it in their faces. Even if you feel it's right to make fun of people who spend money. Those people who spend money fund the rest of our enjoyment, so I just really don't understand the need to ridicule them.

My pack luck has been good as of late. He's up on the auction house now if you are a big Rusty fan. Not a terrible card by any means.

I don't follow. You start with 6 (or 7) packs and 1000 PPs. That's not alot to work with to start. Yeah, you could spend the first 1000 in the AH instead of on more cards. I guess that would work, but I think it would be a slower buildup.

I suppose (thinking out loud here) that if you spent that 1000PPs on a specific need to make your team better you'll get more achievement PPs. But it would be a long slow time before you could afford to hit the AH for a Diamond. Otherwise, you need to use the eventual "goodluck" of pulling a premium card that would get you a real influx of PPs that could get you a larger number of packs. Remember, carpet bombing your collection with packs helps complete missions too. Which is another source of building up your team's quality.

So maybe Ripping isn't the only way to work it. But, since my premise is no wallet/credit card usage, its certainly the fastest and, in my mind, better way to go. The key is relegating your early premium cards to the AH for PPs.

Does that make sense? Or is there something I'm missing?
