What remains is whether or not the third point's validity is sufficient to stifle all discussion and close this thread.

I keep only the minimum that PT allows so I have no stake in the argument except to take up for somebody being brought before some kind of kangaroo court because they happen to like to keep their roster different.
You can see with a glance if someone is tanking if they have an uncommonly bad team. Especially when you already suspect it, so that is not a valid point. To worry about hoarding you have to start off by looking for something to complain about. That is exactly my point when someone is digging for any little reason to vilify another player. That is what is the unethical side of it not keeping a few baseball cards.

The only reason that vilifying someone for tanking is acceptable and vilifying someone for hoarding an unexpectedly high number of players is unacceptable is because we as a community deem one to be acceptable and the other to be unacceptable. In both cases, any public discussion is a "kangaroo court," yet we're just fine with drawing attention publicly to one but not the other.
If we're going to be hypocrites - and with situations like this, I am definitely being hypocritical - then we need to own it.

One is breaking the rules as set forth by the OOTP Gods for what should be obvious reasons, the other is not. The tanker is a cheater as defined by the rules; it is as simple as that. The guy with 8 of everything or whatever is hoarding less than the ones with diamonds and perfects on their reserve rosters. But remember, it is a card collecting game making the hoarder of whatever type just a player that collects for his own satisfaction. I prefer collecting wins over collecting cards. But that is just me.

The devs have specifically said that tanking is appropriate, when conducted properly and in a limited amount. We still do not have a definition of what the proper amount of tanking actually is. Tanking is not specifically and unambiguously defined by the rules; it is as simple as that. In the extreme, hoarding players on the reserve roster could even be construed as a way to mask tanking, since that is a lot of points that could be redeemed for upgraded players. How do we tell the difference? Where is the line? What good is a rule if we don't know how to properly follow it? The bottom line take away of the point I am trying to make is that these things DO need further discussion and clarification from the powers that be on certain topics like this. Closing this thread is only appropriate if we are prepared to state that there are, in fact, stupid questions.

To be honest, I see no reason for the developers to provide us with a rule book.
I fear the day all requests end up as work items for them instead of getting filtered by folks here in this forum. Discussion is stuck in a loop. Time to move on.

It is against the rules to lose on purpose. There does not need to be any clarification on that. I do not think any Dev has ever stated otherwise. I believe the opinion was more in the context that a person could tank more subtly and get away with it. If they had stated that it could be OK under some conditions they would have opened the subjective can of worms that you seek. If that statement was ever made then Markus would have been hard put to ban the tankers that he did ban because they would have an iron-clad get out of jail free card with that statement from a Dev.
Now, I agree with my friend, Joe, and am checking out of this post.

Why the talk about tanking in this thread? This is about having 9 Patrick Corbins on reserve and accusing that person for being unethical because they aren't giving them away to help other teams out.
