Chicago has lost left fielder Adam Brown for the next four weeks. Brows (26) hit just .227 last year. This isn't a big loss for them. We need some teams to lose some good players. Instead, we have lost Martinez, but our competition isn't losing much. |

That was scary! Roberto Alvarado was hurt, but he should be able to return immediately. Losing him for the season last year might have been the difference between our third place finish and possibly winning it all. He is our ace! Meanwhile, Minneapolis has lost Antonio Ricon, who was 4-8 with a 2.71 ERA last year. It seems like the 35-year old has had a pretty good career, but I see that he has never even made an All-Star team. Maybe he has just been good against us. |

Picking up the paper this morning, I see three interesting news items. Two of them are injuries to New York Immigrants. They will be without LF Bill "Milkman" Taylor (.323/.346/.526 with 29 SBs) and SP Chris Zirkle (1-2 6.52 ERA). Milkman will be a big loss. The other is that Roberto Alvarado is first all-time in K/9, and third place is his manager Bill Wilson. I'm so thankful that we have Big Bill around to tutor him. I'm sure that it helps. |

OUCH! We just lost Emmanuel Santana for the first 2 weeks or so of the season. He was supposed to be our stopper! He barely pitched in Cincy last year, but he did have a 126 OPS+ in Akron. Taking his place will be Edward Franco, who had a 1.35 ERA in relief last year. At least Franco is good. |

Chicago has been hit by a lot of injuries. Matt Easley (.264 average in 1908) is out for the next 3 weeks. The Union were 83-71 last year. It will be interesting to see what kind of start they get off to this year. We play them April 24-26. |

Three injuries to report today, but none for the Abs. Washington has lost 1B Kevin Ambrosi (.325 AVE and .399 OBP) for 5 weeks. Brooklyn has lost RP Mike Hunter (1-2 2,76 ERA for AA Syracuse) for the season. Buffalo has lost Dusty "Taz" Stephens for 5 weeks, who hit .255 as a 20-year old in 1908. |

Baltimore has lost RP Zach Cannon (1-0 with a 4.50 in 10 IP last year). That isn't a big loss. Meanwhile, Chicago and Newark have made a trade. Chicago will receive RP Mike Taylor (0.71 ERA in 19 IP for Newark in 1908). The Leathers will receive 2B Matt Kenney (.255 with 24 SBs for the Union in 1908). |

Thank God! Spring training has come to an end. The games are about to count. We did not have a very good spring. We went 12-12. Competing for a spot in the rotation, Raul Licon was really bad going 1-2 with a 6.19 ERA. Meanwhile, our new starting shortstop, Enrique Santos, hit .114 with a .162 OBP. Licon will go to Akron to pitch. I'm not sure what to do about Santos. |

We have finally caught a break. The Congress have lost reliever Nate White for the season. White had a 1.80 ERA in 28 relief appearances last year. We have lost back-up catcher David Robinson. He will be replaced by Abolitionists legend Wilhelm Martin. He is past his prime, but the fans will be happy to get to watch and all-time great. |

Josh Guy Jr called me into his office today to remind me that he is unhappy, and that he expects to win it all this year. I'm a little old, at 74, to be unemployed. This might be bad. Also, we don't have any of the top 10 prospects. We had a great run... Here is our lineup as we embark on the new season. Sanchez is really old. The lineup isn't great. The key is going to be Alvarado. If he is healthy, we could be good. He and Philly's Ben Lipscomb are the best pitchers around. If he gets hurt like last year, we are going to be in trouble. The season got off to a great start! We beat the Baltimore Shippers 4-2. Roberto Alvarado was the key. He pitched a complete game. Four of our hitters had 2 hits as the four runs were a team effort. It's good to get off to a quick start! |

One series down, and we are 2-0! Jason Frey backed up Alvarado's strong start with another complete game effort to beat Baltimore 2-1. Matt Sweeney was the only Ab to have multiple hits. He was 2 for 3 and is hitting .375 with 1 RBI for the young season. Meanwhile, Minneapolis has offered minor league outfielder Sal Majano, whom my scouts think has no value at all for veteran minor league pitcher Rafael Rubio, who used to be good. After negotiating, I was able to get them to throw in this guy and three other guys who are terrible. At least I'm getting a back-up catcher out of this. |

Our pitchers are good! I wasn't going to write after every game, but dang! Nelson Ortiz just went the distance to beat Minneapolis 2-1, and he was also the hitting star going 2-for-4! We only had four hits all game that weren't by him. |

We dropped the other two games in Minneapolis. It was partly my fault. Raul Licon was terrible all spring, but Bill Wilson wanted to make him the fourth starter. I shouldn't have let him. We lost game two against Minneapolis 8-4 with Licon allowing 7 runs (3 earned). In game 2, Alvarado went the distance, but was beaten 2-0 by David Colchado's shutout performance. I have sent Licon back to Akron for Kyle Allore. My job is on the line. I don't have time to play around, Bill Wilson. |

Woohoo! We swept New York in our first two home games of the season! In game one, Jason Frey went the distance winning 6-2 with Willie Sanchez going 2 for 4 to bring his average to .286 with 3 RBI for the season. In game 2, Aaron Hammett went the distance in Licon's spot in the rotation to beat the Immigrants 4-2. Hammett was also the hitting star going 3 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI. |

Emmanuel Santana is ready to come off the DL, so I have sent Kyle Allore back to Akron. We haven't needed relievers much, but you never know. |

Big news around the league today. Justin Reiss has a 30-game hitting streak for St Louis. The longest streak in history is Brooks "Tracks" Flemings 36-game streak back in '01 for New Orleans. Elsewhere, 1897 Kyle Strickland award winner (best rookie) Dusty Hoffman has announced his retirement effective at the end of the season. He has been a disappointment since winning the award for Pittsburgh. He most recently has been the back-up catcher for Louisville, but he did win a pennant with them last year. |

Newark has lost ace pitcher Nick Flores for the rest of the season. They were only off to a 3-6 start with him. They are in trouble. Maybe there will be a job for me if that moron, Josh Guy Junior, fires me. Meanwhile, we just swept the Providence Silversmiths in Providence. We have been really good so far! The first game's final score was 6-4 with Nelson Ortiz getting the win and Edward Franco pitching a perfect ninth to close it out. Leadoff hitter Elijah Grievous was 3 for 4, but the real start was Matt Sweeney, whose only hit was a top of the ninth inning 2-run RBI to win it. The second game was 7-6 in 11 innings. Dustin Caldwell had a pinch-hit RBI single to win it. In the third game, Frey went the distance for the third time in 3 games to win 3-2. At 8-2, we trail the Congress by 1 game. We might be able to compete this year! |

The Silversmiths 0-10 start has come to and end. They beat Minnesota 4-0 behind a shutout by Danny Vazquez. Now, every team in the AABC has won at least one game in 1909. As for our club, we lost 13-2 in game one against St Louis, and Justin Reiss extended his hitting streak to 31. Reiss was 3 for 5 with 4 RBI. Meanwhile, Hammett gave up 13 earned runs. We need to find a fourth starter ASAP. The players of the week were Ben Lipscomb (2-0 0.50 ERA) for Philly in the SSL and Bear Sakamoto (.448 with 8 runs scored) for Washington in the GABL. We are fourth in the latest power rankings. Detroit is first. Last edited by fuzzy_patters; 01-06-2018 at 07:32 PM. |

The Reiss watch is on. His streak is at 32 after going 2 for 4 in a losing effort against us. Alvarado went the distance for us in the 3-2 win and is 2-1 with a 1.31 ERA this year. |
