I personally am not advocating for that or consider that realistic. The Machado injury on its own is realistic because it does happen, albeit rarely, in real life. The overall scope of how OOTP replicates concussions is far from realistic, in my opinion, and I'm all for making it better. But long-term concussions should remain in the game, just at a less frequent rate.

The other problem with this argument is there is actually no way to know if the player in the example just had his 1st concussion. For all we know he has suffered them before, maybe in high school, maybe in the minors. So you can't say this is an unrealistic result from a 1st concussion when we don't really know that it is his 1st. Somehow I doubt many star athletes who are able to make it to MLB never suffered a concussion before getting to the majors.

In my 2017, Machado had one of the all-time seasons, especially if you discount the steroid users...
