A series of miscues cost the game.
After leading for 6 1/2 solid innings of baseball, a pair of errors in the 7th (1x Marte, 1x Alfaro) cost the Phillies the lead. The Phillies were able to rally back and score a run in the top of the 8th but could not secure the victory.
Phillies Manager Pete Mackanin stated after the game: "These guys are young and are not use to the pressure that comes with playoff baseball. While winning big games against Pittsburgh and Arizona, we still have more work to do. We will have to learn from these mistakes if we want to advance further into the playoffs." The Phillies/Giants series is now tied 1-1 in a best of 5 format. The Phillies will play the next 2 games at home in Citizen Bank Park. |

Let it Fly
The Phillies power their way to victory off a 7th Inning Home Run from 3B - Jefrey Marte. The 2 run shot came after 6 full innings of scoreless baseball from both squads.
Aaron Nola had another strong playoff experience pitching 6 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 HR on 93 Pitches. Michael Lorenzo earned his second post season save! If the Phillies win tomorrow, they will advance in the post season to the Conference Championship! In other news the divisional round seems to be wrapping up: AL League Toronto and Cleveland are tied 2-2. They are set to play in a single elimination play off game. Texas and Baltimore are tied 2-2. They are also set to play in a single elimination play off game. NL The Chicago Cubs lead the New York Mets 2-1. I put my money on the Mets because we played well against our neighbors from the north. *ugh i forgot to save the replay* Last edited by FantasticPhanatic23; 08-24-2017 at 04:33 PM. |

The Game of the Century
The Philadelphia Phillies will move on to the Conference Championship round after winning a marathon of a game in San Francisco. The 17 inning game left fans on both sides on the edge of their seat. However, a the Phillies were able to win in the top of the 17th with a Rhys Hoskins "Moonshot."
"Things were tense in our clubhouse and dugout before and during this game, but we can let loose a bit now -- the hard work is over, for now," said third baseman Jefry Marte, who earned MVP honors. While Marte has been a huge contributor in the Pittsburgh Single Elimination game, the Arizona Diamondbacks Wildcard game, and in games 1-4 of the Divisional Series. Marte could not find his bat. Marte hit: 0R, 1H, 0 RBI, 0K, 0BB on 7 ABs. "I was frustrated with my performance the entire game. I wanted so badly to contribute and help my team win. In my final at bat I told myself to make contact with the ball. When I felt the ball hit the bat I knew I hit it in the sweat spot. I didn't stop running until I saw the 3B coach signaling home run as I turned the corner around 2B." - Rhys Hoskins. Hoskins hit: 1R, 1H, 1RBI, 0BB, 3K, on 7 ABs. Finally, former SS prospect for the San Francisco Giants, Kelby Tomilson, stated: "I feel sorry for my friends and family back in California who will not experience another great Giants run through the playoffs. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner in this game and we had to work our butts off to take this win from them. I wish them a great off-season and look forward to meeting them in next year's playoffs." Tomilson hit: 1 R, 3H, 0RBI, 1BB, 2K on 6ABs,. Jorge Alfaro also contributed a go ahead home run, early in the second inning. Alfaro hit: 1R, 1H, 1RBI, 0 BB, 2K, on 3 ABs. Finally young starting pitcher Jake Thompson had a good outing. Thompson pitched: 2H, 0R, 0ER, 2BB, 5K, 0HR, on 93 Pitches and 5.1 IP Playoff Picture / Update The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Indians in the final game of the Divisional Series. The will move on to play the Texas Rangers who also won their match-up against the Baltimore Orioles. Last edited by FantasticPhanatic23; 08-25-2017 at 02:54 AM. |

Marte is the Man!
The Phillies had a huge outing against the New York Mets in the first round of the Conference Championships. The Phillies started off the game quickly with a solo HR by Roman Quinn on Matt Harvey's 5th pitch. Jefrey Marte also had a great outing putting up both a Double and a Triple. The Phillies beat the Mets 6-2.
Roman Quinn Hit: 2 R, 2 H, 2RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 5 ABs Jeffrey Marte Hit: 1 R, 3 H, 3RBI, 0 BB, 2 K on 5 Abs To this point, Cesar Hernandez, Obdubel Herrera, Aaron Altherr and Rhys Hoskins have all been very quiet. Furthermore, Nick Williams is still injuried with an unknown return date. Playoff Picture: Update Texas is currently leading 2-0 in a best of 7 series against the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALCS. *if i had to play either, I'd prefer Toronto because of pitching ability. Lets just worry about winning the NLCS first. Like always I am recording my playoff games. If anyone wants a copy of any particular match-up it can be arranged. This blog / season has been a ton of fun so far! Last edited by FantasticPhanatic23; 08-25-2017 at 03:35 AM. |

Phillies Offense Red Hot
The Phillies won tonight's game against the New York Mets in the 2nd match-up of the NLCS. The Mets put up huge batting numbers with 7 R, 14 H, 0 E. The Offense benefited from Home Runs from Jorge Alfaro and Scooter Gennett and a pair of timely extra base hits. The Mets now will have to play catch-up if they want to stay competitive.
*We have had the Met's number all year, which is why I am happy they beat out the cubs! Jorge Alfaro had a monster game today. he hit: 2R, 2H, 1RBI, 1BB, 1K, on 4 ABs. His numbers include a Home Run and a Triple. Scooter Gennett hit a pinch hit home-run in the top of the 9th to secure the win. Odubel Herrera also had a big game at the plate hitting: 1R, 4H, 2RBI, 0K, 0BB on 4 ABs. Playoff Picture: Update Texas is going into the ALCS with a 2-0 over the Toronto Blue Jays. Tempers flared during game 3 of the NLCS between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets. Pitcher Jake Thompson hit Michael Conforto with a 91 MPH Fast Ball. Both Conforto and Thompson were ejected from the game.
Playoff Picture Update The Phillies were unable to rally after the fight. Dropping the game. They now lead the NLCS 2-1. Texas leads Toronto 3-1 in the ALCS. |

Phillies Drop 2nd Straight to the Mets
The Mets overpowered the Philadelphia Phillies for the second game in a row to tie the series 2-2. The Phillies had a decent offense performance, scoring 3 runs. However, the Pitching performance, which has been a problem all season, was lacking.
Manager Pete Mackinin stated after the game: "We've been in this place before. This is a chance for our young players to step up and overcome adversity." Playoff Picture The Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays to go 4-1 in the ALCS and secure a place in the World Series. The Rangers will play the winner of the Mets / Phillies series. |

*game note
My game crashed and didn't save. I have to re-do game 4. Should I forfeit it through simming or should I just play it. Because the series was 2-2 I don't want to win and then make it look like anything fishy was going on. I'll probably just play it as normal. *Game Result - we lost 9-5. we are back to a 2-2 The Toronto Blue Jays were not yet eliminated and the series is now 3-2 in favor of texas! Phillies Win! Take NLCS Lead.
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets in the 3rd home game at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies road a decent Pitching Performance and Late Game Heroics to seal the win.
Aaron Nola pitched: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 SO, 1 HR Hector Neris was awarded the save. *I forgot to save the replay - so far I forgot to save 3 of the replays i think. My bad. Playoff Picture Update *Due to a human error with software / white screen / and a save error I lost 1 game progress. This ultimately made me have to replay game 4 of the NLCS. The only difference thus far is that Toronto won 1 extra game. They won the series 4-2 and will take on the winner of the Phillies / Mets NLCS. |

Phillies win the NLCS, move to World Series!
The Fight'n Philadelphia Phillies came out swinging today as they flat out destroyed the New York Mets to win the NLCS!. Each player on the team must of had an healthy dose of Wheaties before the game, as the won the game 9-4! It is hard to identify one or two key players as the whole team performed well. Here is a short breakdown:
Odubel Herrera hit: 2 R, 2 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K on 4 ABs Nick Williams returned from injury leave and hit: 2 R, 2 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 3 K on 5 ABs. Rhys Hoskins hit: 1 R, 2 H, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2K, on 4 ABs Aaron Altherr hit: 1 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 2K on 4 ABs Kelby Tomilson hit: 1 R, 2 H, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K on 4 Abs Even SP - Vince Velasquez got in on the fun and hit: 0 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 3 ABs. Velasquez earned earned his 2nd playoff win today after pitching 5.2 IP, giving up 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 HR, on 74 pitches. However, he left the game injured. More information will be provided when available. |

I'll make a report after. Mainly i had good years out of Aaron Altherr, Odubel Herrera, Nick Williams, Cesar Hernandez, found Jorge Alfaro in the Minor's, traded for Tomilson who ended up being a huge playoff bat. I think he is like .300 AVG, .350 OBP. Jefrey Marte hit like 30 HR in the regular season. I'll put up a statistical report after the season.
I still need a 4th OF who is more consistent than Quinn and maybe another power bat. 2 SP's who can pitch consistently and maybe 2 RPs who can pitch consistently. Finally I got a ton of breaks. The Pirates lost their last regular season game to force a tie breaker game which led to the wild card game which led to the Giants series. I had to then beat the Giants in a 2-2 series tie in the 17th inning. The Mets pitching was non existent and we just beat them down. I think I could play this game another 100 years with the same roster and not even make the playoffs. It has been quite a run. So many things had to go right. If I for example didn't call up Alfaro, or trade for Tomilson or Marte, I probably would have had no shot. Then to have the 2nd half I did. It was a wild ride. Finally, I would recommend the books Moneyball, Baseball By Numbers, The Hidden Game, Any of the Bill James books. they really dive into the statistical aspects of the game. I think they would be good reading in the off season. Go Phils! Top Tip: Do not go for names because they are names, or players with big salaries because you are paying for old stats that may not still be relevant. Always look for hidden value. Phillies win Game 1 of the World Series
The Philadelphia Phillies win game 1 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers. The bats continue to remain hot as the Phillies, powered by an Odubel Herrera 5th inning Home Run, went on to beat the Texas Rangers 6-0.
Odubel Herrera hit: 1 R, 1 H, 2 RBI, 0 BB, 2 K, on 5 ABs Scooter Gennett hit: 2 R, 2 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, on 5 ABs Jefrey Marte hit: 1 R, 2 H, 0 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, on 3 ABs Cesar Hernandez hit: 0 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, on 4 ABs Aaron Altherr hit: 0 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K, on 4 ABs Kelby Tomilson was impressive as every this off-season with: 1 R, 3 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, on 4 AB including a triple in the 6th inning. Jorge Alvaro hit: 1 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 2 K on 3 ABs. Rhys Hoskins also tallied an RBI However, as good as the offensive production was, Jake Thompson stole the show with a tremendous outing on the hill. Thompson Pitched: 7.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, on 90 Pitches. Thompson was awarded his second playoff win. Last edited by FantasticPhanatic23; 08-26-2017 at 02:55 AM. |

Phillies ahead 2-0 in World Series
The pitching match-up of the year. The former Philadelphia Phillies SP - Cole Hamels vs. Young Prospect SP - Aaron Nola. While most expected a low-scoring affair, the Phillies got to the former pitcher quickly in the first inning.
Jefry Marte started off the 1st inning with a monster moon-shot of a Home Run. Marte Hit: 1 R, 1 H, 2 RBI, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 5 AB. Cesar Hernandez finally had a huge game at the plate, tallying 3 total hits in the game including a triple. Cesar, who was arguably the most consistent hitter on the team during the regular season, has had a quiet off-season thus far. Hernandez hit: 1 R, 3 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 0K on 5 AB. Both Nick Williams and Odubel Herrera hit doubles in the 2nd Inning putting the Phillies way out in front. Williams hit: 1 R, 1H, 2 RBI, 0 BB, 3 K on 4 AB Herrera hit: 2 R, 2 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K on 5 AB Aaron Altherr also had a great game behind the plate. The half German - half American (And one of the reasons I am a Phillies Fan in real life) hit: 1 R, 1 H, 2 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 4 AB. While the bats continue to work. Pitching has been a problem area in the past few games. Aaron Nola only was able to pitch 4.2 IP and pitched: 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 K on 75 pitches before he left the game with an Injury. There has been no word on the seriousness of the injury but I assume that the youngster will no longer be available this post season. This has really hurt the team as Vince Velasquez also went down the night before with an injury. Zach Eflin struggled as well, but was able to record the win. Eflin pitched 1.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR. However, Michael Lorenzo was able to come in and close out the game against the Rangers. Lorenzo pitched 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2K, 0 HR on 16 pitches. The Phillies lead the Rangers 2-0 in the World Series. |

Phillies struggle with Hitting, Pitching, Drop Home Operner
The Philadelphia Phillies struggled to find offense during the World Series Home Opener in Philadelphia. Texas was able to score 5 points in the first 2 innings and rolled on to a 7-1 victory.
I don't have to much to say on the team's performance. Everyone played poorly. I hope we can turn it around in time to win my first World Series. Odubel Herrera scored the lone score for the Phillies. He hit: 1 R, 2 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 4 AB. After the Injuried Vince Velasquez exited in the 3rd Inning, Jerad Eickhoff pitched a solid 5 IP, giving up : 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K. However it was not enough to fuel a comeback win. Phillies win in epic comeback fashion!
The Philadelphia Phillies were in a tough position in the 2nd Inning when Clay Buchholz left the game injuried. Buchholz is the 3rd Pitcher in 3 days to leave the game early due to injury. The Phillies gave up 1 run in the 4th and 3 runs in the 5th to pull ahead 4-0. However the Phillies were able to rally around clutch hitting to score 3 runs in the 6th, 1 run in the 7th, and 2 runs in the 8th to win the game 6-4. Here is a summary of players who performed well in the last outing:
Nick Williams was named "Player of the Game" after hitting a Home Run in the 6th inning. Williams hit 2 R, 2 H, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K on 4 AB. Williams missed most of the playoffs with an injury and his presence was definitely missed in the lineup. Williams has contributed big plays in the last few games since his return and definitely helped put a W in the Win Column. Jefrey Marte, Rhys Hoskins, and Odubel Herrera hit Doubles in today's game. Marte hit: 1 R, 2 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 4 AB Hoskins hit: 2 R, 2 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 2 K on 4 AB Herrera hit: 1 R, 1 H, 0 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K on 4 AB In addition to these good hitting performances, Kelby Tomilson contributed to the win with a RBI. Tomilson hit: 0 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K, 2 AB. Finally in the 8th inning with 1 out and the bases loaded to put the Phillies in the lead. Freddy Galvis came in as a pinch hitter and hit a 2 Run Single. Galvis hit: 0 R, 1 H, 2 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, on 1 AB. Buchholz left the game after 2.1 IP with a pulled abdominal injury. He is expected to be out for the next 10 days and will likely miss the end of the season. Aaron Nola's Injury has been diagnosed as a Herniated Disk and will also miss the rest of the season. Buchholz pitched: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2K on 28 pitches. Eflin struggled on the hill giving up: 2.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K on 47 pitches. Trevor Oaks, Casey Fien, and Joely Rodriquez all pitched in relief and had no significant numbers worth mentioning. Michael Lorenzo is the Winning Pitcher of Record and pitched: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, on 17 pitches. Hector Neris recorded a Save after pitching: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, on 10 Pitches. If the Phillies win the next game, they will be able to secure the World Series. Furthermore, it will be in front of the home crowd at Citizen Bank Park. More Updates will become available when possible. |

It's doable. The Phillies have a very young team but if you look at analytics and make the right calls even they can get hot and win it. We know how bad the Giants are this year due to a combination of injuries and poor play, in OOTP18 before the patch I had a save where the Giants won the World Series 2 years in a row in 2018 and 2019.
I rarely look at "ratings" all ratings tell you is on a scale where they are in comparison to other players but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be good. If you look at stats, particularly stats that are contextual like FIP or ISO you'll be able to look at the more traditional stats and understand if the player is good or not and then develop a model for your team. |

Phillies win World Series, Powered by 4 HRs!
The Philadelphia Phillies win the 2017 World Series Championship!
The Phillies sure wanted to win this game for the home town crowd. The Phillies overpowered the Texas Rangers in game 5 of the World Series to secure the championship in Citizens Bank Park. This ends the modest 9 year dry spell since the Philadelphia Phillies last won the championship in 2008. Prior to the 2017 season, the Philadelphia Phillies have gone 9208-10317 (.472), made 14 Playoff Appearances, won 7 Pennants, and won 2 World Series Championships. This season the Philadelphia Phillies went 90-73 (.552), good for second in the NL East Division, and entered the playoffs via the Wildcard. Now the Phillies can add another Playoff Appearance, another Pennant, and another World Series Championship to their historic legacy . The Philadelphia Phillies also join the exclusive “Wild Card Champions” list. They join the likes of the Florida Marlins (1997 & 2003), Anaheim Angels (2002), Boston Red Sox (2004), the St. Louis Cardinals (2011), and the San Francisco Giants (2014). Another amazing distinction between the Phillies and other MLB teams is that they made the playoffs on a very low payroll. The Phillies Payroll is estimated (by the game) to be approximately $40,443,000 (29th in the league). Since 2000, only 5 other teams made the World Series scoring the lowest in the league in terms of overall payroll: the Tampa Bay Rays (2008), Colorado Rockies (2007), Florida Marlins (2003), Kansas City Royals (2014), and LA Angels (2002). The recent success can pin pointed on the large sum of young talent that was acquired over the past few seasons. The Phillies averaged approximately 70 wins per season from 2013-2016. Players such as JP Crawford (2013) *due up in 2018, Aaron Nola (2014) *MLB Starter, and Mickey Moniak (2016) *Due up in 2-3 Years) were drafted in the first rounds. Another reason why the Phillies experienced such success was due to huge years by players such as Jorge Alfaro, Rhys Hoskins, Cesar Hernandez, Jefrey Marte, Kelby Tomilson, Nick Williams, Odubel Herrera, and Aaron Altherr. In addition to a great offensive year, 2nd half pitching help make a difference with help from Clay Buchholz, Aaron Nola, Jake Thompson, Michael Lorenzo, Hector Neris, Joely Rodriquez, and Trevor Oaks. Finally, in 2015, the Philadelphia Phillies set out on a vision to create a more Saber-Metrical based organizational design. While Pete Mackanin is more of a old-school conventional manager, he embraced some advanced statistics and other analytical tools to help put the team in position to win. In 2016, the Phillies hired New General Manager Matt Klentak to help form the Advance Statistics department (PHIL). Furthermore, the Phillies brought in Andi Galdi from Google to lead Baseball Research & Development. In 2017, the Philadelphia Phillies hired Co-General Manager Matthew Corwin to help oversee player acquisition and organizational movement. Phillies Owner (Game), David Montgomery, stated: "I can assure you as you already probably know that saber-metrics is something of intense interest of the ownership." Here is are some articles about the Phillies Philosophy: http://www.delawareonline.com/story/...stem/29494639/ https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...ermetrics.html Game Recap The Philadelphia Phillies benefited from a surge of Home Runs. Nick Williams (2nd In), Jefrey Marte (3rd In), Aaron Altherr (6th In), and Freddy Galvis (8th In), all contributed Homers to help seal the championship win. Nick Williams hit: 1 R, 2 H, 2 RBI, 0 BB, 1 SO, on 4 AB. Jefrey Marte hit: 2 R, 2 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 SO, on 3 AB. Aaron Altherr hit: 1 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1K on 4 AB. Freddy Galvis (pinch) hit: 1 R, 1 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 0K on 1 AB. In addition, the following players had a big game: Odubel Herrera hit: 0 R, 2 H, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 4 AB. Kelby Tomilson hit: 1 R, 1 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K on 4 AB. Jorge Alfaro hit: 1 R, 1 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K on 3 AB. In addition to a great offensive day: Jake Thompson and company had good days as well: Jake Thompson pitched 7.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 HR on 92 pitches. Thompson recorded his 3rd overall Playoff Win. Michael Lorenzo pitched 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 HR, on 14 pitches. Lorenzo recorded his 7th overall Playoff Save. Closing Thoughts! In Honor of the 2017 Philadelphia Phillies, here are some clips of the 2008 Championship Team! *It should go without saying that I do not own any of the media presented or pictures posted on my thread and do not profit from them in anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pr00sakTmg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PalYflir9I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAh2VIRqGpM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwh3Xe2VVI4 |
