Just went and ordered it - first time in years that I've bought a game outwith Steam.

OOTP 17 was my first version and is now the only game I play on the PC so I may as well buy direct.

I bought it last year without Steam and it was a great decision. First, you'll get the patches as soon as they come out, whereas with Steam you might have to wait a day for the Steam patch. Second, you don't tie up your Steam account so if you're playing OOTP and feel like taking a break to play a Steam game, you can do so without any issues.

Take an hour or so off - from the Gold Beta Master post:

OK guys, later today (noon / afternoon ET) we will release the Gold Master Beta of OOTP 18 to the friendly folks who have pre-ordered.

It's a nice day here in New England - good time to take a walk.

From Worcester area, live in Metro-west area now. I'm in a league with 2 guys who actually live like a town over from me I believe.

I wonder if the company has statistics of where their orders come from. I'm a nerd for numbers and graphs..... haha

It is 1136 EST now if I am not mistaken with Daylight Savings. It is 0036 right now in Japan. So a half hour longer?
