October 29: World Series Sweep!

World Series: 4-0 vs Mets

October 25: 2-1. Felix won his fourth game of the postseason, giving up one run in seven innings. Kyle Seager had three hits.

October 26: 5-3. Leonys Martin, Seager, and Robinson Cano all homered in the win. Steve Cishek got his tenth playoff save.

October 28: 6-4. Mike Zunino belted two home runs as the M's moved to one game from a perfect season.

October 29: 5-3. Felix won his fifth game of the playoffs, allowing one run in seven innings, and Steve Cishek saved his tenth. Adam Lind was the offensive hero with two home runs. Felix ended up winning the series MVP.

That wraps things up for the M's, who swept through the playoffs to win the first Seattle baseball championship, and completed a perfect season, 162 regular season wins and 11 in the playoffs. We had a season score of 282, and our owner was happy.

Robinson Cano won the regular season MVP, hitting .356 with 235 hits, 52 doubles, 27 home runs, and 124 RBIs. Nelson Cruz and Felix Hernandez finished second and third in the voting. Felix won the Cy Young, going 30-0 with a 2.32 ERA and 243 strikeouts in 252 2/3 innings. Steve Cishek finished second and won the Reliever of the Year award, with Tony Zych and Nick Vincent rounding out the top three in that award's voting. Scott Servais won the Manager of the Year. Cano, Kyle Seager, Nori Aoki, Seth Smith and Nelson Cruz all won Silver Slugger awards.

That's all for the undefeated Seattle Mariners!

ready for 2017

The M's took a brief moment to bask in the glory of the 162-0 season and then set to work for next year. Nori Aoki, Leonys Martin, Franklin Gutierrez, Adam Lind, Dae Ho Lee, and Joaquin Benoit all left as free agents. The M's brought in a huge fish in Stephen Strasburg for $210 million over seven years, the last two years player options. We also picked up Japanese sensation Yoshio Shirai for $66 million over six years, pushing Mike Montgomery and Nate Karns (34-0 combined in 2015) to the bullpen. On the offensive side, we signed Josh Reddick ($54 million over six years) and Jon Jay ($2 million) to replete the outfield, and Kennys Vargas ($600K) and Mark Trumbo ($7 million over two years) to platoon at first base.

The predictions have the M's winning 86 games, and our owner thinks we should finish better than .500. What could go wrong?

April 11: 5-0 vs Pirates. Felix gave up five runs in four innings as the M's were shut out again.

April 13: 7-5 vs Athletics. Hisashi Iwakuma was the latest starter to pitch poorly.

April 24 update: 0-12

April 17: 5-1 vs Astros. Felix lost his second start.

April 18: 4-3 vs Astros. The M's took a three-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, but catcher Jayden Caradine blasted a walk-off homer of Steve Cishek to win it for Houston.

April 19: 10-3 vs Astros. Taijuan Walker lost his second start, and Tony Zych got lit up in the bullpen. Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz both homered in the loss.

April 21: 6-2 vs Twins. Stephen Strasburg lost to someone named Andrew Faulkner.

April 22: 9-7 vs Twins, 12 innings. A grand slam by Cano tied the score at five in the seventh inning. Cruz homered to give the M's the lead in the tenth, but Cano made an error on a ball that would have ended the game and the Twins tied the score. Cruz then AGAIN put Seattle ahead with a home run in the twelfth, and Nick Vincent retired the first two batters in the bottom of the inning. But then Byung-Ho Park walked, Renato Nunez doubled to tied the score, and Joe Mauer hit a walk-off homer to win it. Whoa. To add injury to insult, Chris Iannetta suffered an injury and will miss three weeks.

April 23: 5-3 vs Twins. Cruz hit his fourth home run, but it wasn't enough as Felix lost again.

No. You'd hope they'd have some loyalty after a 162-0 season...

June 12: 6-3 vs Rays. Home runs by Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano were not enough for Seattle.

June 13: 6-5 vs Rays. Cano homered again, but Kendrys Morales had a big day to lead Tampa Bay to the win.

June 14: 12-2 vs Rays. Catcher Justin O'Conner had three hits, including a home run, to pace the Rays' offense.

June 15: 11-1 vs Rays. Kevin Kiermeier and Morales each had three hits in the win.

June 17: 7-2 vs Tigers. Jordan Zimmermann pitched eight scoreless inning before Cano hit a meaningless homer.

Oakland offered us outfielder Billy Burns for minor league infielder Daniel Paolini. Why not? Tenacious utility man Shawn O'Malley was sent to AAA.
