CRAP. I'm am running win 2K as well ...pentium III 850, 256 Ram, build in sound and video. I downloaded DirectX 9.0, adjusted settings on sound card, and disabled it completely...same result. Crashes every 5 mins ...I don't even have to be doing anything..crashes just the same. Please someone save us with a patch. I imported my STB league so i thought it might be that but I started a new league within the game and it does the same thing. I'm out of ideas. this is not cool.

this is the error you are getting guys....i'd list the whole log file but its painfully long and unless you understand all that crap you'd have no clue anyways. if you wanna see it just do start/run/drwatson
...it'll show you any exception errors that have occured recently.
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

Okay here is a specific case that is interesting and may help you Steve.

I imported historical data for 1977 and started my managerial career as the Yankees. The first game on the schedule was not mine but I tried to play it...instead say I could only sim but from inside the play game module so i did. Went to play the Yankee game and the get all the way to the first batter and the game crashes every time. sameerror message that OOTP5.exe has generated a fault and will be shutdown.

I try playing the generic 2003 league and everything works fine.

Oh and I am running XP Pro

And....I just started a new historical league, 1977 and a managerial career but did not try to play a game i was not managing and it is working...so there is one data point for crashes

Event Viewer - Dr. Watson - Event ID 4097 - The application, , generated an application error The error occurred on 03/01/2003 @ 21:15:41.265 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 77D5BD1A (I_RpcAsyncAbortCall)

Direct X 8.1, Win2000k Pro, GeForce4 MX 440, 512MB DDR RAM, SB Audigy (1), P4 2.4 Ghz.

I just installed Win2000k Pro a few days ago, new hard drive and all. The game just randomly quits after the errors previously mentioned. Thankfully it doesn't lock up the machine, just punts you.

You need to have atleast DirectX 8.1b or even better v9 installed.

Of course if this works it's great, but I don't want to have to play it this way.
Just another update......

I've played for a few hours today with both Direct 3D and sound disabled, and I haven't gotten a single crash (before I was crashing every few minutes). So the problem must lie there. I'm going to try to enable Direct 3D soon and see if that causes any crashes. Maybe we can narrow the problem down to either sound or Direct 3D

I don't think its a win2k issue, as i'm having it with Xp, now it could be something with the 2k/Xp kernel.

Just loaded DirectX 9 (v4.09.0000.0900), same result.....loaded a Historical league and went to smoke a cigarette. Came back and the saw I was booted to the desktop.

Same Event ID in the Event Viewer - The application, , generated an application error The error occurred on 03/02/2003 @ 10:25:39.687 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 77D4521F (NdrServerInitialize).

Must be somewhere else that is causing this.

I downloaded DX9 and it did not fix the problem I had. Here is what would happen everytime I would go to start OOTP5 after I downloaded it.

CreatSurfice: BackBuffer
NODIRECTDRAWHW

Also this pops up too after that little box does.

InitApp
Error: InitDirectDraw

So I was wonderring if this is the problem you guys are talking about or what?

Please reply to this if you know how to fix it.

Thanks, David

I had the same problems with the game crashing randomly.
Seems I found the problem, or at least what solved it for me:

Use Gameconfiguration.exe and disable sound. You can still use Direct3D, this was NOT the problem in my case and therefore you still get the improved graphics.

Be sure to turn off sound using the .exe file, turning off the sound within the game still will get you into crashes.

Worked for me. Hope it helps you guys!!!

Turning off the sound and 3d did not work for me, what did work. I finished off my season in OOTP4, and THEN before starting the next season Imported it into OOTP5 again, I have not had a single crash since then.

When i imported the OOTP4 season half way through, it would crash every single time i tried to play a game.

Have you tried going into the OOTP5 folder and toggling the 3d settings in the graphics config?

I had tried that and it didn't work, But as you can see from my other posts, importing the OOTP4 season AFTER a season was complete, solved 100% of my problem, and the game now works like a charm.

exe error

I had the same problem. Imported a ootp4 season that was already started and crashed every time with sound off, no 3D via config.

I started a 1977 history league in ootp5 and have no problems when using that league.
