I haven't played a MLB based OOTP league since around version 4. I thought I was weird based on how much effort seems to be spent catering to the MLB quickstart crowd.

What's catered to the MLB quickstart crowed that isn't in other modes?

I guess it takes a lot of human ressources to get all players adequately represented. (Wild guess coming) 6,000 real players, including minors, plus three or four draft pool's worth of actual talent? Sounds like a tall task to get those assembled. I have trouble writing all guys on my team's 25-man roster onto a sheet of paper. (Then again, those 25 are all so forgettable...)

Fictional obviously doesn't have that, but everything fictional has sooner or later appears in the quickstart, if you know what I mean.

Same here, it is 99% random debut, no recalc for my solo leagues

For online I am all over the board
Fictional x 3, historical (1995 right now), modern x 1, rd x 1

Because if there wasn't a strong Quickstart mode, sales would absolutely crater.

Indeed. Getting the game out there to the casual baseball fan with MLB licensing and realistic MLB gameplay brings in the money, which means (no doubt because of a great dev team) more and better options for us fictional league folks in the long run!

I love MLB Quickstart, but when I start a new game I always sim the first season, contract the Marlins and Astros (sorry Miami and Houston fans) and then expand by two and take over the NL team.

I would LOVE to do a fictional but my attempts in the past have fizzled and died. This is due to a couple reasons, but if I might expound a bit on one of them.

I always envision my fictional league to be a replacement league for the MLB because of some crisis that results in the fall of the Majors. I prefer to play stats "mostly" with only "other" ratings, and I have yet to develop A) a good way of creating fictional players with multiple years of stats that are unrelated to my league for drafting in the Inaugrial Draft and B) A consistent draft pool from feeder leagues that provide me with enough players with realistic annual statistics to subsequently draft in the first year player draft.

I usually end up with not enough stats to draft intelligently in the beginning, or sporadic draft pools ongoing where sometime there are enough players, sometimes there aren't, and sometimes there are player who have stats but haven't played in 2 or 3 seasons sitting there collecting dust.

I also don't like MONSTER performers in the beginning, and I usually end up with a hand full of pitchers/hitters that have completely inflated stats

Anyways I'm going on and on. I love both forms and I consider myself a pretty dedicated player....I just haven't had the success others have in creating a fictional yet.

(FYI - I voted for MLB QS in the poll)

As some may know, I love my historical games but I took a trip and on my back up laptop I started a fictional league on OOTP14. I love it! I am now going back and forth between both set ups. I have a Ottawa team in 1950 I am playing and I had my first game ended due to SNOW! I love it!
Now, if I can find someone to design me a logo of my Ottawa Green Dragons, that would be cool! :P

It's not. Although I do not play in an online league there are a lot of people that live by them. If you find a good group of guys the online experience can be very fun.

See here for openings.

My recommendation would be to check out the Heartland Baseball League. It is well run. It has good guys that are welcoming to new people and there is no stupid writing requirement.

Stadiums, logo's, schedules, uniforms. Without the wonderful community in these forums, OOTP would suck for fictional leagues.

1.Fictional. For the setup of my league, I borrowed a lot of ideas from DreamTeam's Metro Leagues.

2.Small 6-team league. Like the intimate atmosphere of a small league. It also keeps things simple to manage. For one thing, it is easier for me to be familiar with the players of my league.

3.16-game, NFL-like season. Find it too tedious to play the full 162-MLB-game season since I playout/watch all of my games. Created my own customized schedule where the teams only play on Sundays.

4.GM only. Am a big picture guy. Don't like the details of micromanaging my team. Delegate the details to my staff (computer AI).

If the poll is accurate MLB QS brings in 1/3 of the money. I accept that the poll may not be accurate.

What are the true numbers?

Again, a large number of casual quickstart gamers will never hit the forums. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that 80% of quickstart gamers fall into that category. That would make the poll look like this right now:

260 (72%)
87 (24%)
14
1

There's something pretty cool about seeing 28 year old Babe Ruth, 24 year old Ralph Kiner and 31 year old Miguel Cabrera all playing at the same time.

22 year old Yasiel Puig is tearing up the Majors, and 25 year old Austin Jackson is looking like he'll be a star.

I have the OOTP development on as well so looking forward to seeing how players progress through the years.

LOL are you seriously suggesting that the entire population of fictional players has voted in this poll.

No. But the MLB quickstart is the most appealing one to casual players, and casual players are highly unlikely to wind up here. I assumed the overall poll participation percentage for the other three groups to be roughly equal and one fifth of that for the MLB quickstart. If you have a different way of showing up the real percentage of player preferences distribution, you are welcome to enlighten me.

Only play with MLB games though I play through standard game option opposed to the quickstart, is there actually a difference between the two?
