Welcome aboard my fellow OOTP friend. Please enjoy and thank you for reading my dynasty. With expanded playoffs in the past...who knows who would have won the world series?

The month was pretty exciting standings wise. In the AL, the Orioles and the Americans kept on switching places and the same went on between the Reds and the Pirates in the NL. Even the Browns held first place for a couple days. Sam Crawford of the Reds got my pick for batter of the month as he seems to be the most complete player at this time. being one of the top players in HR and RBI is doing the Reds some good in the NL. Sam Crawford (CIN): "The thing about hitting is trying to figure out where the ball is gonna go after it leaves the pitcher. You want your bat right there to greet the ball at that location." Cy Young continues his domination in Ks and he got my pitcher of the month. Cy Young (BSA): "It always feels good when you go tell the batter to go back and take your seat"

When you go on a 7 game winning streak like the Chicago White Sox are doing right now...you would probably be feeling pretty good about your chances to get on top of the league. But when the team ahead of you, the Boston Americans are on an EIGHT game winning streak of their own and show no signs of slowing, thats gotta be frustrating. Not to be outdone, The Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL are also on a 7 game winning streak and have a commanding lead as well. It looks like they want another world series crack and halfway through the year...they might just get their wish. The Washington Senators are last in the AL, 18 games back of the Americans. But one player is doing what he can to help his team and that is Ed Delahanty. Ed Delahanty (WAS): "Sure it feels bad to be where we are as a team. But its not because we are a bad team, it's because there are so many good teams in this league." Bill Dinneen of the Americans, who is part of that awesome starting rotation, has 12 wins on the year. Bill Dinneen(BSA): "Im on a staff that includes Cy Young and George Winter. Boy does that feel good, and we are pitching great right now."

Talk about streaks! The Boston Americans have another 8 game winning streak and are starting to run away with the AL. The White Sox are in 2nd while the Browns hold the very important 3rd spot, but only by a slim margin over the Cleveland Broncos. Can St. Louis hold on for two more months? There is still two months left but the NL looks like its pretty much wrapped up. The Pirates, Superbas, and Reds all have pretty much locked up 1, 2, and 3 respectively. The Beaneaters are 10 games out of the 3rd playoff spot and unless a miracle happens, these three we will see in October. Batting at a .336 clip, Jimmy Sheckard of the Superbas is feeling pretty good about their chances come playoff time. Jimmy Sheckard (BRK): "I know the Pirates are the best team in this league, but we aren't too bad ourselves. We might have to get through the Reds though...and i welcome that challenege." Jesse Tannehill is listed as a RF for the Pirates, but he has 1.49 ERA. I asked him about converting to pitcher full time. Jesse Tannehill (PIT): "I love to pitch, I really do. but sometimes, the grass out there in the field smells pretty good and you have to go out there and smell it from time to time."

In May, the Cleveland Broncos were 11-23 and last place in the AL. After a strong August, the Broncos now find themselves in 3rd place, 3 games ahead of the St. Louis Browns for that third playoff spot. A great month for Cleveland as the playoff push begins. In the NL, its pretty much wrapped up. The Pirates, Superbas and Reds will be in the playoffs. The only question remaining is who will get the bye and which two teams will play in the division series. Charlie Hickman of the Cleveland Broncos is bringing in the runs. Tied for 2nd in the AL in RBI and HR. Now, he has helped his Broncos into the playoff chase. Charlie Hickman(CLE): "We were at the bottom and now were near the top. This is why we play so hard. Don't know if we're gonna catch Boston, but i sure would like to have games 1 and 3 against Chicago." Bill Phillips of the Cincinnati Reds is 3rd in the NL in ERA and Wins. Bill Phillips(CIN): "I'm feeling good right now. I would like some better control over my pitches, but i do feel good. And it looks like we're going to the playoffs. Season isn't over yet, but i think we're gonna be there."

twib:
It came down to the final week of the season, but the St. Louis Browns held off the Cleveland Broncos to advance to the ALDS against the Chicago White Sox. It was very close, but the Browns behind some timely hitting by Emmet Heidrick, who finished 3rd in the AL in batting, did the job and moved the Browns into 3rd place in the league. ONE percentage point was the deciding factor into who would host games 1 and 3 of the division series. So the Browns will have only game two in Sportsman's Park. The White Sox have made the playoffs for the 2nd straight year, hoping to overcome the loss to the Orioles last year. But waiting in the wings for each of them is the Boston Americans, who pretty much had control of the AL from start to finish. The NL playoffs were pretty much already determined a month ago as the defending champion Pirates will get some rest while the Reds and the Superbas, who are making their 2nd straight playoff appearance, will play in the NLDS. Not much to say here as all three of those teams owned the NL, with the Pirates getting that much needed bye. Jimmy Sheckard and Ed Delahanty won their league batting titles, but it was Delahanty who was not satisfied because the Senators finished last in the AL. Ed Delahanty (WAS): "This team has to get better. We cant finish near the bottom all the time. Hopefully a good offseason will change that." Patsy Dougherty of the Boston Americans finished 2nd in the AL in batting and is looking forward to the playoffs. Patsy Dougherty(BSA): "I know we were the best during the regular season, but when you play a short series in the playoffs, you never know" Rube Waddell of the Philadelphia Athletics was 3rd in the AL in ERA, but his team missed the playoffs. Rube Waddell(PHA): " Yeah, I had a good year, and I have a good feeling about this team. We just have to get over the hump, that's all."

1902 Postseason
ALDS: The St. Louis Browns will play the Chicago White Sox in the American League Division Series. St. Louis was 11-7 against the Sox this season.
Charlie Shields(SLB): "Chicago has been in this situation before, we haven't yet. We have to grow up very fast!" NLDS: The Cincinnati Reds will face off against the Brooklyn Superbas in the National League Division Series. Bill C. Phillips is scheduled to start ALL THREE games in this series. Bill C. Phillips(CIN): "I'm trying to get all the rest that I can and I'll be ready to go."

1902 Division Series
twib:
ALDS game 1: Wiley Piatt pitches an awesome game and blanks the Browns 1-0 to take a 1-0 series lead while Red Donohue gave up the only run in the loss. Browns' bats just couldn't find a groove at any time during the game. Wiley Piatt (CHW): "I just kept my pitches down and away and the ones they hit really didnt get much further than the infield." NLDS game 1: Bill Dahlen of the Brooklyn Superbas was the bright spark in an NLDS loss to the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds won the game 6-5 with an RBI single in the top of the 9th inning to take a 1-0 series lead in a game where 28 hits were made. Bill Dahlen (BRK): "Both teams were hitting the ball well in this game. But they got the timely hit that won the game in the 9th. But, we have another chance."

ALDS game 2: Roy Patterson of the Chicago White Sox gave up only two earned runs as Chicago knocked out the Browns 3-2, winning the ALDS 2-0. Chicago moves on to the ALCS to face the Americans. Roy Patterson (CHW): "One series away from playing for all the marbles, but Boston is going to be tough." NLDS game 2: The Superbas evened up their series against the Reds by shutting them out 9-0 on a great pitching performance by Jim J. Hughes. He only gave up 4 hits in the game while Brooklyn's bats took care of the rest. Jim J. Hughes (BRK):"I had the stuff today. Thats really all i can say. But we know they will be ready for Game 3."

NLDS game 3: Two great pitching performances in this game and it was very sad that one team had to lose. But it was Frank Kitson of the Superbas who came out on top in a 2-1 win over the Reds that clinched the NLDS in front of a great crowd at Washington Park.
Frank Kitson(BRK): "We had to play two elimination games to get where we are. Now it's on to Pittsburgh. A team that doesn't lose often."

The Superbas and the Pirates will be facing each other in the National League Championship Series. The Pirates were 12-8 against Brooklyn and Jack Chesbro went 4-2 against them this season. Kitty Bransfield batted over .300 against them. However, Brooklyn knows that they can get hits off of Pittsburgh pitching.
Bill Dahlen(BRK): "We have to make timely swings and wait for the right pitch to hit. This is going to be a long series, but we feel we have enough to beat these guys." The American League Championship Series will feature the Chicago White Sox and the Boston Americans. Roy Patterson, Cy Young, Wiley Piatt, and George Winter are sure to make this series a real pitcher's battle. Cy Young (BSA): "When you have pitching like both our teams have, hits and runs are going to be very hard to get ."

1902 Championship Series
ALCS/NLCS Game 1:
Deacon Phillipe of the Pirates pitches straight shutout ball as the Pirates defeat the Superbas 1-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the NLCS. Pittsburgh overcame two crucial errors during the game but were able to keep the Superbas from getting any runs across the plate. Deacon Phillipe: "I was happy that my team was able to get that run in the first inning. Thankfully, that was the only run we needed." 15 innings!!! It took that long to decide game 1 of the ALCS. Where the NLCS was a pitchers duel, the ALCS was totally the opposite! 17 runs, 34 hits and 9 errors marked a great game or an ugly game depending at how you looked at it. Boston won the game 9-8 and now held a 1-0 series lead. George Davis was the star of the White Sox. George Davis: "This game was totally off the books! Could have went either way, but we took the loss."

ALCS/NLCS Game 2:
Game 1 of the ALCS was ugly but game 2 was a lot more down to Earth as Bill Dinneen pitched the Boston Americans to a 2-0 series lead by beating the Chicago White Sox 4-1. Bill Freeman hit a big 2-run HR in the 2nd to put the Americans up for good, while Dinneen pitched a shutout the rest of the way. The run that the White Sox scored in the 9th was unearned. Bill Dinneen: "Now that was the kind of baseball we are supposed to play, not that game like we had yesterday. We came together to play as a team this time and we got the job done." The Brooklyn Superbas evened up their series with the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 2-1 win today. Frank Kitson and Jack Chesbro went head to head, but it was Kitson who got the win. Frank Kitson: "Both of us were on our games today. We did what we needed to do, win one in Pittsburgh. Now we have a chance to clinch it in front of our fans."

ALCS/NLCS game 3:
When you are trying to eliminate a team from the postseason, and your starting pitcher is Cy Young, you have to be feeling pretty good about your chances. Well, the Boston Americans took care of business as they shutout the Chicago White Sox 5-0 to sweep the series 3-0 and advance to the world series!! Cy Young: "I pitched great!! My team hit great! This is where this team belongs, in the world series!" The Pittsburgh Pirates got the home field advantage back as once again, Deacon Phillipe pitched a marvelous game to beat Brooklyn 5-1 and take 2-1 NLCS lead. Jim J. Hughes of the Superbas gave up 5 runs in the game including 4 in the 7th. Jim J. Hughes: " I didn't have the stuff today. I made some good pitches but they did their jobs and i didn't do mine. Hopefully we can survive to go to 5 games"

NLCS Game 4:
Facing elimination, the Brooklyn Superbas put their season into the hands of Frank Kitson. He pitched well, but it was Cozy Dolan who was the star as Brooklyn beat Pittsburgh 5-4 to force a deciding game 5 back in Pittsburgh with the series tied 2-2. Cozy Dolan: "We didnt want to lose in front of our fans. They had a great year like we did. Now its back to Pittsburgh with a real opportunity to get to the world series."

NLCS Game 5:
Deacon Phillipe! I think that is all i have to say and i think all you OOTP fans know the rest. But I will say more anyway. The Pittsburgh Pirates advance to their second straight world series with an 11-3 win over the Brooklyn Superbas to win the NLCS 3-2 in front of 14000 fans at Exposition Park. Deacon Phillipe again was the man on the mound, but this time, Jimmy Sebring got the big star of the day. Going 3 for 4 with a double and two triples was the stat of the day in this game. Jimmy Sebring: "All I wanted to do was help this team get back to the world series. Job done! Get ready, Boston! We are waiting for you!

And so the 1902 World Series is set. It is fitting that this time the two best teams in baseball will play for it all. The Americans and the Pirates. Boston might have one advantage in this series however. Tully Sparks, did pitch against the Pirates this year when he was a member of the New York Giants earlier in the season. He went 1-2 against them with 4.21 ERA, but he isnt concerned with that record. Tully Sparks: "The Pirates are a very patient team. They wait for the right pitch to hit and then they clobber the ball. In order to beat them, you have to make them swing at the wrong pitch. Tough job ahead." Yes it will be a tough job. Especially since the Pirates have a pitcher on the team by the name of Deacon Phillippe, who has been almost invincible on the mound. Deacon Phillipe: "This is it. If there is ever a time for me to pitch my best baseball, it is now!"
