I agree that when they have to juggle they should make sense. I do it the opposite way. I set my depth chart and then have the coach set the lineup and tweak from there. I then sim all of the games. I have noticied the same thing with odd lineups and only happens when it has to juggle the lineup. Regardless of my depth chart, the lineups selected by the bench coach are reasonable. It suggests a different algorithm for picking the lineup on the lineup screen vs. when it has to put a sub in the lineup because a player is tired.

Ok thanks, that makes sense. One question, why bench coach instead of manager?

That's what it says on the Action Menu. Ask Bench Coach.

If you are playing without coaching I think it just says bench coach (meaning in this case some generic AI suggestion).

There is also, ask manager. I prefer the manager to the bench coach, although I'm not so sure their lineups would be too much different?

I am playing without coaches, which is probably why I don't have the manager option.
