Usually no news is good news...hopefully this is true here.

Many questionable questions are questing for answers.

PCL Design input would be appreciated. We are having challenges figuring out what to do, what would play best, what would be most interesting etc.

To get a ML and PCL world without ballplayer overlap one would need to delete all ML players who ever appeared in the PCL from the standard Lahman, the question then becomes what of a player whose PCL debut was at age 48 (there are some), should he join the PCL at 27 which is when he started his major league career or at 18 which is when he started his minor league career in other leagues. 18, 27 or 48? That is one question.

Plus who plays CF for the Yankees if not DiMaggio since he may stay in the PCL with San Francisco.

Then with all those players missing will there be enough players to even fill out the major league rosters if one tries to have 3 leagues?

Plus what of a players huge career gaps if we remove his major league career entirely, he'd just play in 1903 and 1917 and at no other time if those were his only PCL years?

I'm wondering?

I'll offer this on the posed questions:

what of a player whose PCL debut was at age 48 (there are some), should he join the PCL at 27 which is when he started his major league career or at 18 which is when he started his minor league career in other leagues. 18, 27 or 48?

On this issue, my perspective is that the player should be in a 'merged' db as an MLB player.

Plus what of a players huge career gaps if we remove his major league career entirely, he'd just play in 1903 and 1917 and at no other time if those were his only PCL years?

Again, IMO, this player should be a MLBer. I understand that the career of Ted Williams and Joe D could be said to be almost the same and thusly, should be an MLBer. The difference to me is that there's the possibility that these such players could have stayed in the PCL had it been a 'major' league.

Personally, what I want out of this db is to be able to run the MLB in the same file with the PCL. Separate leagues, but in the same file. I'd also like to run the PCL alone. I believe this 'merged' db would accomplish both.

FTR, I have successfully created a PCL alone AND a PCL alongside an historical MLB.

We're now to the point of fine tuning the db to what the users here want out of it.

The easiest thing would be for Markus to add the PCL to the game so that it could be added much like you can add the Korean league to your existing league. Absent that, its doable, but a bit tricky.

No such thing as a merged db, for that to work.....well it just wouldn't as OOTP now stands. A merged DB only allows 2 leagues so unless you make two of the 3 leagues a single entity with 2 Divisions OOTP will not accomodate you.

If you have one with the PCL guys removed and the new PCL db entries added, that's what I'm calling 'merged'.

I'm calling two different db now with the MLB/PCL league. Why couldn't I call the same 'merged' db in that same league file?

The players won't go to the correct teams unless you have two leagues in some fashion, 3 will not do.

Well, for my use, I'd want them either entering the FA pool or a draft anyway, but I understand what you're saying.

I guess I didn't understand the amount of problems OOTP presents in a setup that I would describe as simple.

I am relatively certain that I have this working as intended.

I've got the PCL running in a universe alongside MLB with separate drafts/rookie classes coming in each season.

I also have the PCL running as a standalone league as intended.

The setting up of the PCL/MLB universe is a little involved, but very doable. It involves saving a standalone PCL as a template and then adding that to an historical MLB league.

Thanks, Henry. Its ready to go. I'm just unsure how to package it up.

Spritze suggests that I take it and create quickstarts, but you guys will still have to have the db(s) installed to be able to move forward.

As I said, its a little odd in the way it has to be used, but its very usable nonetheless. I'll get it packaged up this week.

PCL.xml ---> PCL.zip

rename the attachment as noted above and unzip it. You'll find the pcl Lahman style files inside. Use any way you wish.

I'm sure Cooley will have other stuff later but in case you are tired of waiting go with this.
Attached Files
File Type: xml pcl.xml (922.9 KB, 206 views)

Is this the PCL I used with the modded MLB db Spritzy?

I ask that no one use this for an online league at this time. I have one in the works.
