I didn't. I'll have to look for it.

Strange. Today they had to put C Francisco Cervelli at 2B (he never played there professionally) when they took Jeter out with an injury. They started with Cano at DH for some reason and Nunez at 2B. Chavez started at 3B for A-Rod, on the DL.

So, when Jeter got hit by a pitch on the hand, the Yankees took him out, moved Nunez over to SS, and put a catcher in to play second base. Now they did this in order to not lose the DH, which is what would happen if they moved Cano to 2B.

Apparently, they rather have Cervelli at 2B than have the pitcher bat and risk injury (Garcia, who is pitching well). Meanwhile, it was mentioned on TV, the Yankees are carrying 13 pitchers on the roster right now instead of an extra infielder. Which would be fine (barring any other injuries) if they didn't start Cano at DH. Come to think of it, he played both games of a day/night doubleheader yesterday, so he was probably "tired" especially going 5 for 5 with 5 RBI's in the second game.

You thought Girardi was bitching about having to play that doubleheader? Listen to him if Cervelli pulls a hammy out there! Ah, Baseball, how I love it so.

EDIT: Even more interesting! Cano just went into the game at 2B (Cervelli had no fielding chances) in the top of the 7th, meaning they give up the DH. However, at this point of the game, Garcia will be coming out rather than bat. Besides, Cervelli just made the second out of the bottom of the sixth, so his second spot, where the pitcher will be inserted, will likely not come to bat until the ninth, may be not at all if the game score remains the same (home team Yankees winning 4-2). Now this strange situation looks like Joe Girardi genius!

I hear the fans at that game were super toward him, because they know this is the end. Sad, but you really can't mourn too much the end of a career like the one that he's had.

#3 Yankees catcher of all time? (Clarification: Munson is #4 on my list).

Watching an archive broadcast of Thursday's 22-9 win over the A's and just got to Cano's grand slam in the 5th. My gosh, can this guy smack the ball, or what? What a swing he's got. Combined quick wrists and bat speed, and the ball flies off his back like a shot. They played the theme from The Natural over the P.A. system as he was going around the bases, and I got goosebumps.

A quiet, but very respectable new record

Derek Jeter passes Mickey Mantle as New York Yankees leader in games played - ESPN New York

He's had to average 152 games played a year for 15 years from 1996 through 2010 to set this team record.

No big screams or wild gestures. Certainly no spectacle, even if Rivera is widely regarded as the best ever at what he does.

Just warm hugs and appreciative handshakes from Yankees teammates. And even that might have been more than what Rivera wanted following the 600th save of his remarkable career.

"Maybe later on after I retire, but right now I'm not focused on that. I'm not that type of guy. I'm a team player," Rivera said. "I tell you guys many times and I'll continue to tell you, it doesn't depend on myself. It depends on my teammates giving me the opportunity to be able to pitch."
