Middleweight Prelims- Month 19
Billy Soose 15-3 (7) vs Damien Walec 18-0 (11)
A big step up from The Omens recent draws and he was on point early, punishing Soose with jabs and straight lefts in the opening round before flooring Billy in the second with a wicked uppercut. An expected challenge never materialized as Walec hammered him the whole way, dropping him again in the twelfth round to cement the overwhelming UD, 120-106 x2 & 119-107 In may not be until the Tournament that we see Damien pushed to his limits.

Middleweight Prelims- Month 20
Robbie Sims 11-6-2 (6) vs Damien Walec 19-0 (11)
Sims brought the fight to Walec and got the best of several heated exchanges in an intense opening round. Robbie continued with his success in the second, slipping inside on the gangly Walec and ripping hard hooks to the body and head. Walec took the ball in the third and peppered Sims from long range with his jab and straight left hands. Damien continued to control matters in the fourth until the final half minute when Sims stunned him with a vicious uppercut and a double hook to the head. Looking to follow up, Robbie opened the fifth aggressively and scored with two hard right hands. As he advanced to follow up Walec ripped a hook to the body and brought a short hook to the head that landed flush on the chin and put Sims down and out for a shocking one punch finish to an excellent fight.

Time to dust this off since my first odyssey is almost complete. Since the last one took over two and a half years, I'm going to go division by division this time as it will be easier to follow.
Other change is that the titles will be in play throughout. The IBO & WBO rating restrictions are lifted and the rounds dictated by the champions era, if it's a unification then it's the top seed, all the way to the finals.

Straw First Round
Paul Oulden 11-8-1 (5) vs Tshepo Lefele 8-9-3 (3)
Lefele, the last seed in the tournament, tagged Oulden with hard right hands throughout until he finished him with one in round five. Hideyuki Ohashi 9-9-2 (3) vs Carlos Melo 8-10-2 (2) Melo, another underperformer in the prelims, boxed well most of the way and survived a nasty cut over his right eye in round seven to take the UD. 98-93 x2 & 97-95 Ala Villamor 11-9 (5) vs Eriberto Gejon 12-6-2 (3) There were some nice exchanges early but Villamor's more powerful punches took command and he dropped Gejon twice in the ninth and three more times in round ten to force the automatic stoppage. Florante Condes 15-4-1 (5) vs Wilfrido Valdez 16-22-2 (6) The action wasn't furious, but it was steady and the fight was even heading into the final round that Valdez was controlling until Condes dropped him with a hook for a five count to steal the round and the UD. 97-93 & 96-94 x2 Noel Arambulet 12-7-1 (3) vs Junichiro Kaneda 12-8 (5) Arumbulet put on a sterling performance and dominated his Japanese counterpart with quick combos en route to the UD. 100-92 & 98-93 x2 Kermin Guardia 23-15-2 (10) vs Hiroki Ioka 26-13-1 (8) Ioka was the lower seed but most expected him to win. Guardia used his aggression and right hand to keep Hiroki on his heels and take the UD. 98-93, 97-94 & 96-94 Donnie Nietes 11-8-1 (6) vs Fahlan Sakkreerin 24-14-2 (12) Fahlan's spoiling style kept Nietes from scoring with his harder punches and nothing really got going here, the judges couldn't come to a decision so we have to run it back. 97-95, 95-97 & 96-96 Shinichi Tamaki 10-7-3 (5) vs Alex Sanchez 17-21-2 (6) Tamaki dominated early and he dropped Sanchez with an uppercut in the third, Shinichi tired a bit late but two of the cards in his UD seemed much closer than the action. At least the right guy won, 99-90, 96-93 & 95-94

Straw First Round
Ngaoprajan Sithsaithong 10-9-1 (8) vs Khulile Makeba 8-10-2 (3)
Makeba boxed beautifully at times and he was putting it on the Thai fighter in the fourth until a crushing cross dropped him with five seconds left in the round. Sithsaithong's power reared it's head again when he hurt Makeba in the seventh and ninth but the South Africans consistency earned him the SD. 95-94 x2 & 94-95 Noel Tunacao 9-11 (4) vs Wolf Tokamitsu 11-9 (7) The Japanese brawlers hooks nearly closed Tunacao's right eye by round five, but Noel closed strong with speedy combination that fell just short and Tokamitsu advanced with the UD, 97-94 & 96-94 x2 Zukisani Kwayiba 16-4 (5) vs Samuel Gutierrez 12-8 (9) This fight was full of action, with gutierrez forging inside and banging the body while Kwayiba countered with hooks and uppercuts to the head. Over the second half Zukisani got his jab working and picked apart Samuel from range for long stretches to take the UD. 98-92 & 96-94 x2 Kwanthai Sithmorseng 15-5 (6) vs Takayugi Korogi 11-7-2 (5) Sithmorseng was just way too active for Korogi, and, in spite of some entertaining exchanges, he took the wide UD. 99-90 x2 & 97-92 Wellington Vincente 28-11-1 (8) vs Kompayak Porpramook 25-13-2 (17) Porpramook dominated the first three rounds with powerful body shots and uppercuts. Then the Brazilian came back in the fourth and floored Kompayak for a six count. After Wellington controlled the fifth they began to slug it out in by far the most entertaining fight to date. Porpramook hurt him late in round nine with a right hand and carried that momentum through the tenth to pull out the UD. 95-94 x3 Yasutaka Kuroki 11-9 (3) vs Steve Msimanga 11-8-1 (7) After a slow round and a half Misimanga ducked under a left hand and delivered a picture perfect hook that crashed into Kuroki's chin and put him down for the count. Kwanjai 3K Battery 11-7-3 (2) vs Fernando Martinez 13-6-1 (6) Fast paced and competitive fight, but 3k Battery's crisp combos swelled up both of Martinez eyes and busted up his mouth en route to the UD. 98-94, 98-95 & 96-95 Roberto Leyva 24-13-3 (11) vs Benjie Sorolla 13-6-1 (4) They traded in tight from the opening bell until Leyva dropped him in the third with an uppercut and forced the stoppage with a follow up barrage.

Abruptly, early in the seventh, Sithlakmuang dropped him with a hook to the body and spent the next 90 seconds hammering his depleted rival until the ref stepped in. But Genki scored the more powerful blows and the Nerd I semifinalist was sent packing by MD in his first fight. 98-92, 97-93 & 95-95 Asawin Sordusit 12-8 (5) vs Katsumi Komayama 11-7-2 (1) They traded the whole way, but Sordusit continuously landed the harder punches and he split open Katsumi's mouth with an uppercut in the third and flattened him with a hook in the fifth. Hiroshi Matsumoto 8-10-2 (1) vs Macario Santos 12-8 (4) Rematch: Matsumoto SD10 This was tight, with matsumoto scoring with speedy combos while Santos connected with the harder shots, in the end you guess was as good as mine but Macario walked away with the UD. 96-93 x2 & 95-94
