It should be noted that Newton has been "cleared"' to play, not necessarily "cleared" of any wrong doing. It's like the distinction between innocent and not guilty. There's no indication that the investigation is over.

I have a feeling this isn't the last we'll see of this issue, as the ruling opens up a huge loophole in such pay-for-play schemes: any player can be shopped so long as he doesn't know about it. I can't forsee the NCAA being ok with that little nugget.

While I'm not suggesting that Oregon St. would of miraculously been a world beater had he not gotten injured, losing James Rodgers back in early October was a pretty significant blow to their team.

It's just a bunch of people doing guess works. They guessed Oregon State to be top 25, and then performance on the field proved Oregon State not to be top 25.

Do you genuinely believe that Oregon State was somehow a top school 2 months ago and something happened since then made them not as good? I would believe it's just Oregon State isn't as good as people thought.

I think its pretty obvious that Newton has taken money, regardless of whether or not they can currently link him to it.

The problem is that if the investigation isn't finished before the Title Game (and Auburn win it) but then it's later found that Newton did take money, then the title has to be vacated (as opposed to awarded to their opponents (presumably Oregon or TCU)), which doesn't exactly make NCAA Football look great in the media.
