Not enough to launch yet. This is much tougher to fill than a standard league where all you do is download the file. There's cash to be involved here (although not a lot).

I didn't think it would be quick, but sometimes knowing how many teams are filled helps speed up the process and helps people's decision on whether to join

I'm considering filling out an application but I am not sure I want to be forced into getting OOTP12 either...

Second such comment. Did I miss something while editing the rules regarding v12?

Nothing is set in stone about upgrading, so don't let that deter anyone from applying to the league. In fact, I'd say IF we moved to 12, it'd be WAY after release, but as all other league issues, that would have to be voted on by the owners.

I wondered that about 12 too, I didn't see anything that said the league WAS moving to 12, just that you had to keep the same version as the league if they upgraded. I assume it'll be like any other league that the GMs will decide when the time comes if the advantages are worth the upgrade

That's the only way to do it.

Here's the situation:

Many have posted on these forums about a 'pay' league. At the present, we don't have enough to make this a go.

For those on the fence, here are the quick numbers:

The season cost would range from 11.50 to 17.00 (65 win team to 100 win team). I can't imagine the cost being the problem.
Payouts range from 8.26 for award winners up to around 100 bucks for the overall champion.

----HERE IS THE PAYOUT AS PER THE RULES----
25% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the MBS World Series Champion
15% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the MBS World Series runner up
20% of the total prize pool will be awarded to each of the post season teams (8 teams/6 division winners and 2
wild card teams)
10% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the MBS pennant winners
5% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the GM of the year in each league (Owner Vote)
5% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the MVP of the year in each league (Owner Vote)
5% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the CY Young winner in each league (Owner Vote)
5% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the Fireman of the year winner in each league (2 points per save,
1 point per win, (minus) -1 point per blown save)
5% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the rookie of the year winner in each league (Owner Vote)
5% of the total prize pool will be awarded to the most improved team in each league (record compared to the
previous season)
*In the event of a tie the prize pool will be split as evenly as possible

PAY OUT EXAMPLES:
The total prize pool is $330.48
This is comprised of team victories x .17 cents.
25% of $330.48= $82.62
20% of $330.48= $66.10
15% of 330.48= $49.57
10% of 330.48= $33.04
5% of $330.48= $16.52 There are 7 categories that collect a total of 5% of the prize pool for a grand total
of $115.64. Because there are two winners(one from each league) in each of the following categories (GM of
the year, MVP, CY, Fireman, Most Improved Team & ROY) each winning team will earn $8.26 or 2.5%.

---------------------------------------------

Admins are taking nothing from the pot. It all pays out to the owners.

At 3-4 seasons per year, I don't think the cost is too high on a yearly basis.

No forced upgrade to v12 has been even considered.

If you're on the fence, we'd love you to fill out an app and help us get this going. If there are other concerns, please post them here.

If we can't fill this vision for a pay league, we'll call it off next Saturday. So if you're interested, please ask your questions or fill out the app so we can figure out if we have a viable idea for a league.

Thanks for all those who've applied and/or asked questions.

I'm really hoping to give this a shot. I've applied and am hoping some others will do the same.

It's a very interesting and different idea. It would be a shame to not even see how it works out.

For those of you that haven't been in a league with Cooley before, I can assure you that with him on the league governing board, it will be a well run league.

Here's to hoping a few more adventurous GMs take a step forward and get this league from idea to reality. It could be one of the best league's out there. Of course, it won't be anything without some GMs to manage the teams... At under 15 bucks to get on board, it's not that big of a risk for what could turn out to be a pretty nice reward.

Hell, people pay 15 bucks a month to play World of Warcraft and have nothing coming back in return. Surely a payout OOTP league is worth dropping 14 bucks on.

i figured it'd be year 2 that would be the most interesting, where people who lose 100 games then have to decide if it's worth sticking around without much of a chance to win money.

I think the payouts are such that in any given 4 season period, nobody will lose much money, especially with 14 awards and 8 post season spots that pay half the entry fee

Presently, there are 7 total. That seems low for the time posted, but with money on the line, there are no people just 'trying the league out'. You have to be committed when you fill out the app, so I understand the difficulty in filling the league thusfar.

We really don't want to lower the number of teams in the league, but we could go down from 24 to 20, I suppose.

Either way............we have a ways to go in the next week.

Thanks Mark for posting that. With it being a holiday weekend I will not be around to much Wednesday. So Saturday is definitely a soft deadline.

c'mon people, it's $14 to start and if you win any of the following

ROY
MVP
Cy Young
Fireman
GM of the Year
or make the playoffs

you automatically get 60% back, 33% of the teams get half their money back every season just for making the playoffs.

Let's get this going and give it a shot

Go ahead and submit. We are getting ip addresses with applications, so we can match those up to make sure no one would be in control of two teams.

LOVE the idea. Haven't been around the forums in awhile but this is just the kind of idea that OOTP has always needed. Just enough $$ on the line to keep it interesting.

One thing I didn't notice in the rules was PayPal fees. I'm not a Paypal expert but is there a way to transfer money back and forth without loosing a chunk to PayPal?

Also - I noticed the note about static IP addresses. I understand wanting to keep everyone honest but how many people really have a static IP at home? I could use my static @ work but at home my cable company rotates my IP every so often (days, weeks??)

Holidays - if interest is still light maybe this idea should get bumped until after the holidays?? Money could be an issue but the other thing is owners not wanting to commit their time when they know things are about to get very busy IRL.

Submitted an app

I have submitted an application. I think some of the concerns regarding cheating and stealing of my 14.00 are a bit silly. What if sports charges what, 12.00 per season now? Stratomatic online leagues are just ******ed expensive. I wanted to do this a couple years ago and just couldn't generate any steam due to the same concerns.

My biggest concern is that I am active duty Army now and so obviously I'm subject to deployment. My unit is scheduled to be stateside through 2012 but we have 2-3 month international missions that creep up unannounced all the time. I'm sure the league would have no problem with me temporarily transferring ownership to a friend or relative while I'm gone though (they obviously wouldn't be affiliated with the league in any way prior).

I've been around the OOTP community long enough to see leagues come and go. I'm willing to bet this one sticks around a while, which is something I've never said before...

Thanks man. I think it will to if we can fill it. I have been out the last couple days with Thanksgiving and Black Friday today ( which I just got home from ) and was getting emails to my phone with quite a few apps. I really think we are close to being able to start.
