The bracket is set
Olympic hockey bracket set as Team USA earns #1 seed, Canada faces Germany next - On the Forecheck
That possible Canada/Rus game Wed should be a good one.

I thought Olympic hockey was double elimination? That's my favorite form of a playoff system....

The season right now means bulls nuts right now. It's over a week and a bit ago. This is a whole new world.

There is no equivalent to the goalie in baseball....well maybe the starting pitcher(and that is stretching it a lot)

I would argue that the catcher is most like the goalie in baseball. I would also argue that a good catcher, who knows how to make the proper pitch selection, and knows the lineup of the opposition, is just as, if not more, important than the pitcher.

Plus, the catcher does some pretty similar things that a goalie does.

Obviously not, but the Cardinals don't have a backup that is arguably as good or almost as good as Pujols. The Canadians have 2 all-star goalies on the bench and in a short tourney you have to find the guy that is hot.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind if they threw Brodeur back out for the next game.

IMO, 2 goals were pretty bad. He should have stopped the 2nd goal and the 3rd goal he for some reason dove unnecessarily for the puck which left him out of the net and gave the US and easy goal.

Superior place? I haven't heard very many Vancouverites gloat about how Vancouver is superior to anywhere.

Lots of people may talk about how they think it a great/best place to live, but I honestly don't think they are gloating... IMO

When the catcher has a bad game, the team isn't guaranteed to lose. When the goalie has a bad game, your pretty much sunk.

Long answer: I respectfully disagree.

Eh I'd wonder if maybe giving a hard look at Luongo would be the way to go. Granted he's only faced one creampuff in Norway, but Brodeur has has some meh games (last night, maybe the Swiss game as well?). It's a tough call, but it is a nice call to have in a way.

". If LGO got that from the news or whatever, I'd throw it in the trash bin. The news regarding these Olympics is pretty much trash. I especially love how much bitching there is about the Olympics. You'd almsot wonder if some folks are just unable to say anything good about anything.

And neither do Torontonians. Which is why the whole "Centre of the (Canadian) Universe" thing about Toronto is rather irritating.

We hang around different Torontonians then. QUite a few of them have expounded the virtues of their city as being superior to others on more then one occasion. I will admit thought the sample size is small (less then 100)

So because Torontonians get mislabeled you figured you should fire back at Vancouver?

I make fun of the leafs as much as anyone, but my visits Toronto have been great.

Huge W for USA because that setup a great seeding for them.

For Canada, I think they gotta let Marty start v. Germany and the second he shows he's out of it, you pull him. He's Marty Brodeur still.

Canada v. Russia looks to be a 2nd round game meaning 1 of 2 gold medal contenders will leave Vancouver with nothing

The NHL needs Team USA to win the Gold

If he's out of it for that game, so is the team.

Folks that would have a sudden interest in "jumping on the NHL bandwagon" if the US won the gold would be gone within ten years. What the NHL needs is consistent fans, not ones that require their national team for them to give a **** about the sport and be trendy.

If Marty is pulled Canada still has a shot with Luongo or Marc Andre. I don't get why people think Luongo and MAF are typical 2nd and 3rd stringers

You're right, Canada has to beat Germany in order to play Russia but let's be serious... if Canada can't Germany than what's the point in even talking about their team, ever?

And sorry you're wrong. The NHL needs to get bandwagon fans now that see the game has changed from the 80's and see guys like Crosby, Ovechkin etc. The sport can't get consistent fans without exposing bandwagoners.

If Marty does play, and does bomb, and is pulled, mroe then liekly we're buehind by quite a few goals. Barring a sudden reversal of foretune after that the game,a nd the series will be lost (the loser goes home)

Because it's our team? IMO Germany is on par with the Swiss talent wise, and it took a shootout goal to get by the Swiss.

Well we agree to disagree in that regard. Bandwagon fans will do as much for the game as the NHL's expansion in the 90's; aka offer a quick cash infusion and be a band-aid solution for a problem that will just reappear once they move on to the next trendy thing.

I dont believe anyone thinks that.

Canada is the most talented team in the tournament but they arent playing like it. You cant put all of the blame on one position.

Marty has proven time and time again that he is a clutch player so I am not understanding wanting to bench him after 1 bad game. It seems like overreaction to me.

Luongo and MAF are not typical goalies you are right but this is Canada we are talking about and not Norway. Canada has 1 goal in this tournament and that is to win the gold. Who gives them a better chance to win gold than Marty?

I should ask the question this way?
Would you rather take the chance of winning gold assuming Marty finds his game OR would you be happy backing one of your other 2 goalies that might be playing better right now but cant carry a team on his back like Marty can.
