Haven't really thought that far ahead. I didn't think size would be a problem, but your files are over twice the size of the ones I've produced so far which have been around 2 to 2.5 MB.

I'll do a doublecheck on the files when I get back on the laptop. I'm fairly sure that's the size though.

Peace

For Boys of Summer and Golden Days, every file has been between 2.5 and 2.9 MB. Just thought of something.... are you referring to the HTML page sizes or the Excel sheet. Haven't checked the size of my HTMLs yet.

When I save as HTML, the files folder is just under 6 MB's.

Ok, then I am right. It is when I save as a HTML file.

Peace

Just out of curiosity, does this spreadsheet use the short forum method or the full blown long method?

Thanks.

It uses the full method, although there is one piece of data that wasn't available from OOTP as I recall, so it was approximated. But it's been so long since the spreadsheet was first put together, that I don't recall exactly what that is.....

Also about the HTML size - I hadn't really considered this either. But maybe for historical purposes, we wouldn't need every team detail page?
For the QBA, I had just been keeping a seperate HTML/spreadsheet which listed the players year-by-year totals. In this new spreadsheet, I could see that people might like the team total pages, but maybe the batting/pitching/fielding pages could be supressed?

I just noticed that there is a "trades" tab on the utility. Is this going to have the functionality to analyze trades using WS? That's definitely something that would be awesome to see. Bill James would be happy with this.

The trades page is a sheet left over from when Chad was doing everything manually. To get the most accurate WS possible, you'd have to keep track of a players stats before and after the trade and manually make the adjustments by adding stats to one team and subtracting them from another team. There isn't any way currently for the utility to do this automatically since stats are displayed for the whole season in the HTML pages rather than broken up to each team. Chad would use that TRADE sheet to keep track of the "before and after" stats for players traded.

I didn't know Chad was doing that...I've always wondered whether I got the short end of the Elmer Flick trade that I pulled the trigger on in 1903.

Win Shares are perfect for figuring something like that. The only year it is off is the first year when the players are traded. But if you use WS for the subsequent years, you can find out how many WS Flick had after the trade in the rest of the years compared to the players you traded.

Expansion of the Win Shares utility is ahead of schedule. I'm expanding it to handle a maximum of 48 teams. I've got all the pages created for the teams and the first page has been completed. Its now time to work on the macros which will involve a lot of copy and paste. For those of you worried about size, I'm automating the creation of the HTML pages (a YES or NO option) and also giving the ability to choose full or reduced HTML. The reduced HTML will have just the team summary pages. All team batting, pitching and fielding detail pages will be deleted (only in the HTML page, I plan on leaving the XLS alone).

I tried running the macros against a league with only 12 teams and it seemed to lock up.

I'm wondering. Was I just impatient and didn't wait long enough for the calculations to finish? Or would the spreadsheet (as it is now) not be able to handle anything BUT 16 teams?

And I think this utility is a great, great addition.

As it stands today - it will only handle 16 teams, but you can modify the macros to handle less. I managed to get it working with 8 teams.

If you comment out the "calls" that run the unwanted team macros it would work. In the future version (that may be out as early as tonight) the macro checks for the team first before running the team macro. This will prevent it from locking up. Probably the easiest thing if you're not comfortable with it is just to wait. I got an amazing amount done on it last night and hope to be able to release the new version today that support any number of teams up to 48.

This utility looks great, but I keep getting a message that I need to run setup for Visual Basic or something like this? I have no idea what this means.. I am trying to run it for an online league with 24 teams so perhaps that is the problem. Still, nice work.

It might be because there is 24, but my guess would be that its something else. I hope it is the 24 team problem because otherwise I'm not sure what file you're missing.
