This is fantastic idea! I'll be following along. Looks like it will be a lot of fun to do. The upsets make it interesting. Who knows who will emerge in the end? Reminds me a bit of the Olympics, except we get to enjoy the fights being fought under the rules of professional boxing and between the greatest fighters of all time.

I'm looking forward to seeing who qualifies from Ireland and Israel. And of course the USA is going to be very interesting and have a strong team. This is going to be an awesome thread!

There should be some interesting results from the various far east countries as well in the lighter weights. Can Manny P win his class in the Phillipines for instance? Glad to see you reading along!

Continuing the Middleweights.

ROUND 2:

Les Darcy vs Tom Duggan - The over matched Duggan only lands 8.5% of his punches before Darcy punches his lights out in the 2nd for the KO.

Dave Sands vs Ted Nelson - The versatile Sands was content to play defensive wizard in this one, using his jab to good effect. He opened several cuts along the way, finally getting the TKO in the 9th on said cuts.

Fred Henneberry vs Ritchie Sands - Ritchie Sands can only dream of having the skills of his namesake Dave Sands. His lack of those skills showed as Henneberry used his rapier like jab to open a nasty cut in the 5th to end it.

Sam Soliman vs Peter Newton - Soliman built up a solid lead, opened a nasty cut on Newton's eyelid. Newton came out the next round a desperate man with vision issues. and walked into a crushing right that ended his night as Soliman earns the 9th round KO.

Daniel Geale vs Darren Obah - This shows the difference in the rounds system of scoring. Geale deposited Obah on his backside on 3 separate occasions only to lose the fight as other than power, Geale brought little else to the fight. Obah on the other hand was the more effective most of the fight and earned the split decision Despite Obah's losing a point due to dirty tactics.

Ron Richards vs Alfie Sands - Ya gotta wonder about a fighter that comes into the rings to the song "What's it All About Alfie?" None the less This Sands split knockdowns with Richards, but Richards was the far more accurate though Sands was the aggressor throughout. In the end The judges rewarded accuracy and power in this one as Richards won the unanimous decision.

Al Bourke vs Frank Sturgeon - Sturgeon took it to the favored Bourke from the start, scoring 3 knockdowns to 1 for Bourke. Sturgeon won the decision, then afterwards said: "I'm tired of the bad fish jokes from my opponents. Bourke said he'd gaff me. Well THIS Sturgeon has a gaff of his own!"

Bill Doherty vs Jim Hall - Not much to choose from between these 2 as neither was all that active for most of the fight. Both went down, but Doherty's face looked like a mass of hamburger at the end as he drops a split decision to Hall.

ROUND 3:

Les Darcy vs Darren Obah - This one was Obah stalking Darcy dancing all night long. Obah hit the canvas 2 times but somehow survived for the distance dropping the UD by a large margin.

Dave Sands vs Frank Sturgeon - Sands wasn't as accurate as usual, but with his power, it mattered little against Sturgeon. 3 knockdowns later, the referee felt that Sturgeon had had enough and stopped the bout in the 7th for the TKO.

Fred Henneberry vs Jim Hall - Henneberry spent most of the night stalking hall, but it was a suprising hook out of left field that ended the favored Henneberry's night in the 11th for a KO!

Sam Soliman vs Ron Richards - Soliman earned the 15 round UD against a game Richards.

ROUND 4:

Les Darcy vs Jim Hall - Sometimes a big name will come out over-confident. In this one, Darcy WAS. Hall came out and took it to Darcy as the men stood toe to toe. Suddenly in the 6th Hall landed a big right hand that floored the off the board favorite Darcy for a count of 9!!! He barely beat the count! Hall smelled blood and went after Darcy with a vengance!! It looked like he'd weather the storm when a sudden uppercut had Darcy sagging in his corner as the referee stepped in to save Darcy from further damage for the TKO!!

Dave Sands vs Sam Soliman - In a major shocker, Sands built up a lead through 10 as both men fought furiously. They both faded in the championship rounds with Soliman trying for a comeback bid. At the end I had the bout a draw, but the Judges, ALL from the US of A gave the final 5 rounds to Soliman!?! This turned the fight into a unanimous decision 8-6, 8-6, 8-7 for the underdog Soliman!

FINAL:

If ANYONE would have told you that the finals would feature Sam Soliman and Jim Hall, you'd have called the nice young men in their clean white coats for a one way ticket to the funny farm! Yet here we are folks!

Sam Soliman vs Jim Hall - Soliman came in the favorite and showed why in this one, battering Hall throughout until the ring doctor stopped the fight in the 12th due to the golf ball that Hall calls a left eye. Soliman will be Australia's Middleweight entrant!

ROUND 1:

Shannan Taylor vs John Keong - Taylor's propensity for bleeding was his undoing as this off the board favorite had his night ended early in the 2nd round due to a nasty cut on his right eyelid. Score it a TKO for Keong.

Troy Waters vs Michael Kilmurray - Waters wasted little time in this one, flooring Kilmurray once then pouring it on, landing 42 of 69 punches before the referee stopped it in the 1st.

ROUND 2:

Charkey Ramon vs John Keong - Keong showed heart, lasting into the 9th, but Ramon was too strong, scoring the TKO when the ref stopped it to save Keong from being seriously injured.

Kevin Kelly vs Troy Waters - Kelly wore Waters down in a close one before scoring a TKO on cuts in the 14th round.

FINAL:

Charkey Ramon vs Kevin Kelly - Kelly came to war with Ramon and the 2 men stood toe to toe for an exciting match. Ramon opened a cut on the bridge of the nose of his man in the 1st, and no matter what Kelly's corner did, it just wouldn't stay closed, getting wider with each punch landed by Ramon. Finally in the 4th the doctor said it was too bad to continue and the game Kelly lustily objected. With the 4 TKO Ramon earns a berth in the World Tourney at Junior Middleweight.

We have 20 pugilists for the Welterweight spot, so will have the 8 bottom seeds each fight a fight-in.

FIGHT-IN:

Tom Tracey vs Dave Birchell - Tracey was all about stick and move in this one, and it paid off as Birchell only landed 15% of his punches. Tracey earns the UD.

Mick Dunn vs Mick Ives - Dunn smothered Ives throughout until a reopened cut stopped it in the 6th. Dunn moves on with the TKO.

Tot Higgins vs Chris Kouros - Higgins survives an early knockdown to score a KO in the 12th.

Billy Maber vs Billy Williams - Williams, the boxer out hit the slugger Maber to earn a 15th round split decision.

ROUND 1:

George Barnes vs Billy Williams - Williams shocked everyone when he put Barnes down, but Barnes got up and scored a pair of knockdowns of his own along the way against the game Williams. Barnes easily picked up the UD however.

Jack Carroll vs Mick Dunn - Carroll stayed on his bicycle throughout, until the 14th when he caught Dunn coming in with a crushing cross for a knockdown. After a 2nd knockdown in the round Carroll went into killer mode and the referee stopped the carnage for the TKO.

Fred Kay vs Tot Higgins - Kay handles an overmatched Higgins to earn a unanimous decision.

Julian Holland vs Tom Tracey - Holland suffers a bad cut on the forehead due to a clash of heads sending this one to the scorecards in the 9th. The judges give a narrow 1 round unanimous decision to Holland. Tracey feels robbed!

Jeff Malcolm vs Glenn Collis - Tactical match that saw Collis land less than 10 punches per round (11.8%) as Malcolm wins the UD.

Lester Ellis vs Clem Sands - Close fight ended too soon when the cut on Sands eye reopened for the 3rd time handing Ellis the 9 TKO.

Alf Morey vs George Sands - Dull would be overstating the interest level of this bout as Morey sleeps his way through a UD win.

Nick Tetoros vs Billy Todd - Todd loses 2 rounds to knockdowns, but either halves or wins the rest until he scores a knockdown of his own. His was for keeps though as Tetoros was out for over 5 minutes. Score it an 11th round KO.

ROUND 2:

George Barnes vs Billy Todd - Todd scores a pair of knockdowns then goes the distance to win a controversial split decision. Other than the 2 rounds, it was felt by most of the crowd that Barnes was the better man. I had it 8-6 for Barnes myself.

Jack Carroll vs Lester Ellis - Carroll scored 3 knockdowns as he dominated Ellis for the entire 15 rounds and the UD.

Fred Kay vs Alf Morey - Kay used superior defense and a great jab to keep Morey at bay and win the UD.


Julian Holland vs Jeff Malcolm - Malcolm scores the lone knockdown in an otherwise uneventful fight stopped when the cuts on Holland started to gush. For those scoring at home, it's an 8th round TKO.

ROUND 3:

Jack Carroll vs Billy Todd - Carroll was sloppy in winning a close split decision.

Fred Kay vs Jeff Malcolm - Jeff Malcolm kept the pressure on Kay as he takes the Majority Decision.

FINAL:

Jack Carroll vs Jeff Malcolm - Carroll comes in motivated in this one keeping the pressure on throughout before scoring the TKO in the 12th. Carroll is the Aussie entrant in the Welterweight class.

Only 7 entrants in the Jr. Welterweight division will give Hector Thompson a bye.

ROUND 1:

Justin Rowsell vs Brent Clough - What Rowsell lacks in technique he makes up with enthusiasm he was a virtual windmill in this one until a wild haymaker put Clough on his back for the count in the 3rd. Rowsell averaged 116 punches per round to only 25 per round for Clough.

Andy Broome vs Steven Cook - Broome out boxed Cook for 15 rounds to earn the unanimous decision. Cook landed only 10.8% of his punches in this one.
John Green vs Daniel Hoskins - Green almost finished Hoskins in the 5th with a knockdown, but Hoskins got up at 9 and survived the round. Green went down in the 13th, and barely beat the count, but there was enough time for Hoskins to pound Green into the ropes until the ref stopped things. 13 TKO for Hoskins.

ROUND 2:

Hector Thompson vs Daniel Hoskins - Thompson has little trouble with Hoskins in scoring a 6th round TKO by referee's decision.

Justin Rowsell vs Andy Broome - Rowsell was content to use hit and run tactics against Broome to earn the 15 round UD.

FINAL:

Hector Thompson vs Justin Rowsell - Dominating performance by Thompson as he easily took the first 5 rounds. Rowsell tried to come back but was cut badly in the 8th. The cut reopened in the 12th and was stopped for the TKO at that point. Thompson, the pre-tourney favorite moves on to the World Tournament.

Especially with the countries that have the larger amounts of fighters. None the less, it'll be interesting to see how things shake out.

We have a 34 man field for the Lightweight division. 4 men will participate in a fight-in to set the field at 32.

FIGHT-IN:

Chris Dunn vs Will Brummy Fuller - Dunn allowed only 6.4% of Fuller's punches to land in this short bout ended when Fuller started bleeding bucketloads from the nose in the 6th round for the TKO.

Steve Hughes vs Elijah Jackson - Hughes used superior defense and a wicked jab to keep Jackson off balance throughout (11.8% landed for Jackson). In the 11th Jackson was cut badly enough that the fight was stopped for the TKO.

ROUND 1:

Michael Katsidis vs Chris Dunn - Katsidis only needed 9 punches to put Dunn to sleep in the 1st round.

Herb McCoy vs Steve Hughes - Huges landed 46% of his shots, but only threw an average of 17 per round as McCoy was a buzzsaw throughout. The fight was ended in the 10th on a cut over Hughe's right eye for the TKO.

Aussie Jack McAuliffe vs Young John King - McAuliffe swarmed King, hurting him with a hook that drove him into the ropes in the 2nd then hit him with 15 straight shots before the referee stepped in for the TKO.

Bob Turner vs Boko Thompson - Turner smothered Thompson for 3 rounds before scoring the KO.

Peter Boland vs Jim Barron - Both men stood toe to toe for most of the fight with Boland scoring 3 knockdowns, the final one in the 8th for a KO.

George Dawson vs Martin Denny - In the eyes of the crowd, Denny outfought Dawson. In the eyes of most "experts" Denny won the fight. However the judges scored it a split decision for Dawson.

Pat Ford vs Jack Fuller - Fuller went down 6 times in this one before being KO'd in the 14th in this one-sided affair.

Billy Grime vs Jack Hall - Grime suffered a cut from an accidental clash of heads in the 3rd to end the fight as a Technical Draw. Rematch soon.

Hughie Mehegan vs Frank Payne - Mehegan scores a knockdown then pours it on as the referee steps in to end it for the TKO in the 5th.

George Bracken vs Charley Pitts - Bracken was too strong and fast for Pitts, earning the lopsided decision.

Renato Cornett vs George Powell - Powell upsets Cornett in a close split decision victory that could have gone either way.

George Keys vs Cocker Tweedie - Each man went down once, but Keys was the more effective overall in winning the unanimous decision.

Herb McKell vs Colin Graham - McKell used 5 knockdowns in 5 different rounds to forge a lead and held on to win a narrow 8-7 victory on all 3 cards.

Artie Tully vs Tony Miller - Tully had a 2 round lead on all 3 cards when the referee stopped the fight due to a cut on the left eyelid of Miller for the TKO in the 13th.

Jim Burge vs Bobby Rose - Rose won 5 of the first 6 rounds before walking into a Burge uppercut that put him out for the count in the 7th.

Frank Flannery vs Jeff White - White outslugged the slugger to win a 15 round UD.

REMATCH:

Billy Grime vs Jack Hall - Grime used 2 knockdowns to 1 for Hall and a stronger attack throughout to win this rematch with the UD.

Michael Katsidis vs George Powell - Katsidis wore Powell down with a wicked body attack, scoring 3 knockdowns, the final one in the 10th for the KO.

Herb McCoy vs Jim Burge - Both men went down 2 times in this one as they put on a slugfest. In the end of this very close fight Burge won 8-7 on all 3 cards to pull off the upset!

Aussie Jack McAuliffe vs Jeff White - White scored 2 knockdowns early, but McAuliffe stormed back with 6 of his own before the referee stopped the bout for the TKO midway through the 14th.

Bob Turner vs George Bracken - Bracken came in known as the slugger but it was Turner's power that finished it with the KO in the 8th.

Peter Boland vs George Keys - Keys used superior ring generalship to negate Boland's power to earn the split decision.

George Dawson vs Herb McKell - Toe to Toe action in this one with McKell holding the edge throughout (2 to 1 on knockdowns). After the final knockdown McKell poured it on until the referee stepped in to protect the senseless Dawson in the 7th.

Pat Ford vs Artie Tully - Ford dominated throughout scoring 3 knockdowns, the final one for the count of 10 in the 13th round.

Billy Grime vs Hughie Mehegan - Both sluggers stood toe to toe until Mehegan landed a wicked uppercut in the 3rd that had Grime out on his feet. The referee steped in a minute later to end it for the TKO.

Michael Katsidis vs Jim Burge - Burge survived the first 5 knockdowns, but the damage was done as the 6th was for the count in the 11th.

Aussie Jack McAuliffe vs George Keys - Keys couldn't find an answer to McAuliffe's style as he was knocked out in the 9th on the 2nd knockdown of the fight.

Bob Turner vs Herb McKell - Turner scored a pair of knockdowns and otherwise dominated most of the fight, yet escaped with a split decision. One has to wonder what the one referee was watching!

Pat Ford vs Hughie Mehegan - Toe to Toe action sees Mehegan down 2 times, the 2nd one being for the 10 count in the 6th round.

ROUND 4:

Michael Katsidis vs Pat Ford - Non stop toe to toe action in this one saw Ford down twice, the final one in the 8th round for the count of 10. Katsidis was just too fast and too strong for the game Ford.

Aussie Jack McAuliffe vs Bob Turner - Another slugfest saw both men land punches with amazing accuracy, but McAuliffe was the harder hitter, scoring a knockdown in the 4th, then pouring it on to finish the deal for the TKO.

FINAL:

Michael Katsidis 4-0-0 (4) vs Jack McAuliffe 4-0-0 (4) - As you can see by the records of these 2 gladiators, a war was expected, and a war we got! Katsidis was the stronger throughout however, pulling ahead and wearing McAuliffe down as his right eye became more and more swollen. Katsidis finally scored a pair of knockdowns in the 11th round but somehow McAuliffe survived! Then in the 12th another pair of knockdowns, with the final one being for the count of 10 as McAuliffe couldn't will himself up though he tried valliantly! Katsidis takes his 5-0-0 (5) record into the World Tournament!

Only 4 entrants so this'll be a quickie with Robbie Peden being the favorite.

ROUND 1:

Robbie Peden vs Mario Terre - Peden dominates from the opening bell, finally putting Terre away for the count of 10 in the 5th round.

Nedal Hussein vs Barry Michael - Nedal used every inch of the ring against Michael to earn the 15 round UD.

FINAL:

Robbie Peden vs Nedal Hussein - Peden dominated throughout though Hussein had his moments. 2 of Peden's 3 knockdowns came in rounds he was losing so really made the difference as all 3 judges scored it 10-4 for Peden who heads to the World Tournament.

We have 27 fighters in the Featherweight division. The top 5 seeds, including the great Young Griffo will recieve a bye in the 1st round.

ROUND 1:

Young Pluto vs Bill Holden - The usually light hitting Pluto caught Holden moving in with a wild uppercut for the KO in the 4th round.

Bert Spargo vs Frisco McCaull - Spargo outboxed McCaull throughout forcing him to try an all out assault in the 12th that backfired when Spargo caught him coming in with a crisp combo that floored him for the count.

Eddie Miller vs Frank McShane - Miller swarmed McShane for the entire 1st round before landing the coup-de-gras KO at the end of the round.

Mickey Miller vs Young O'Brien - They say the 3rd time's a charm. When it comes to knockdowns, that was the case for Miller, who KO'd O'Brien in the 9th round.

Jimmy Hill vs Doss Patterson - Neither man was particularly effecitve, however Hill's defense did make the difference as he took the UD.

Jerry Marshall vs Nipper Peakes - Simply put: Terrible fight as neither man was able to mount anything resembling an offense. The referee's spared us the agony of a rematch by giving Marshall the split decision victory.

Jack McGowan vs Cecil Tibby Watson - McGowan used an amazing defense and an adequate offense to win the 15th round UD.

Russell Sands vs Abe Willis - Sands built up a big lead then held off the charge by Willis at the end to win a majority decision.

Wally Taylor vs Frank Silver - Taylor used a stiff jab and a brilliant cross to keep Silver at bay throughout his 15 round unanimous decision.

Barry Hatcher vs Tony Wehbee - Hatcher kept catching Wehbee on the way in hurting him more and more as the fight went on. Finally the damage was so bad that the referee halted the bout in the 6th for a TKO.

Chiddy Ryan vs Dummy Winters - Winters did a great job of keeping Ryan off balance throughout as he earned the 15 round UD.

ROUND 2:

Young Griffo vs Barry Hatcher - Griffo used amazing footwork and hand speed to keep Hatcher at bay while cutting him up with crisp combinations. The fight was stopped in the 5th when the claret was flowing much more than the doctor was comfortable with.

Johnny Famechon vs Dummy Winters - Famechon used controlled agression to smother Winters throughout to earn the 15 UD.

Bernie Grant vs Jimmy Hill - Grant won this match of 2 uninspired boxers with a unanimous decision.

Tim Hegarty vs Jerry Marshall - Hegarty showed more ring savvy than Marshal, winning 9-6 on all 3 cards.

Trevor King vs Jack McGowan - King built up a nice lead, forcing McGowan to go for the KO. It's not often a boxer will get the KO in these situations, but McGowan did it in the 10th!

Young Pluto vs Russell Sands - Not much to pick from these 2, as neither had their best fight. Pluto got the nod with the split decision.

Bert Spargo vs Wally Taylor - Another case of 2 boxers making for a dull fight. I had it 8-7 for Taylor, the judges had it 8-6 8-7 8-7 for Spargo.

Eddie Miller vs Mickey Miller - Mickey Miller opened a cut over the right eye of Eddie Miller with an intentional butt, then won the fight by TKO later on in the 5th when it reopened for the TKO.

ROUND 3:

Young Griffo vs Jack McGowan - Griffo used every inch of the ring against McGowan, picking him apart and punishing him along the way. He earned the TKO in the 11th on cuts.

Johnny Famechon vs Russell Sands - Famechon boxed efficiently keeping Sands off balance and landing 45% of his shots in taking the unanimous decision.

Bernie Grant vs Mickey Miller - Grant built up a solid lead, but in the 13th round Miller opened up against a tired Grant. After landing a big hook he landed 21 straight punches before the referee had seen enough to award Miller with the 13 TKO.

Tim Hegarty vs Bert Spargo - Other than being knocked down 2 times by Spargo, Hegarty did a solid job of controlling the action in taking a 15 round UD.

ROUND 4:

Young Griffo vs Mickey Miller - Griffo boxed effortlessly throughout, landing 42.7% of his punches while keeping Miller off balance and holding him to 15.2%. Griffo cruised to the unanimous decision.

Johnny Famechon vs Tim Hegarty - Hegarty started out fast and it paid off as Famechon was cut from an accidental clash of heads and the fight was ended in the 8th round and sent to the judges who scored it 5-1 4-2 4-1 for Hegarty and a Technical Unanimous Decision.

FINAL:

Young Griffo vs Tim Hegarty - Griffo was the model of efficiency landing 563 of 983 punches while holding Hegarty to 190 of 894 as he dominated the first 10 rounds then cruised the rest of the way. The judges scored it 13-2 13-2 14-1 for the defensive wizard, sending him to the World Tournament!

Jeff Fenech is the only Jr. Featherweight entrant, thus he'll be the entry in the tourney. Fenech is a world class fighter, so should go far into the tourney!

We have 11 gladiators for the Bantamweight entry into the World Tourney. The top 5 seeds get a bye.

ROUND 1:

Nathan Sting vs Johnny Binge - Nathan showed a little Sting in this one, scoring the lone knockdown enroute to a 15 round decision.

Peter Toohey vs Billy McKell - Toohey really took it to McKell, opening a cut in the 1st, reopening it in the 2nd then the final time in the 3rd when the ref stopped it for the TKO.

Joe Russell vs Bill Mullins - Russell landed nearly half his shots while holding Mullins under 17% of his which was the story of a otherwise dull fight. Score it a 15 round UD.

ROUND 2:

Jimmy Carruthers vs Joe Russell - And the upsets keep rolling along. Carruthers built up a huge lead, only to step wrong and twist his left ankle so badly that he was unable to continue, handing Joe Russell a highly unlikely 12th round TKO.

Elley Bennett vs Peter Toohey - 4 knockdowns and constant pressure earned Bennet a 15 round UD in this one.

Vic Darchinyan vs Nathan Sting - Darchinyan scored 3 knockdowns, the final one in the 10th for a 10 count.

Lionel Rose vs Paul Ferreri - Defense? who needs a stinkin defense? that was the attitude of Rose and Ferreri who landed 61% and 52% of their punches in this one. Ferreri finally suscumbed to the power of Rose however, being KO'd in the 9th round of this fan pleasing fight!

ROUND 3:

Elley Bennett vs Joe Russell - Bennett was by far the stronger fighter in this one, ending things by reopening a cut on the right eyelid in the 8th round for the TKO victory.

Vic Darchinyan vs Lionel Rose - Rose chose to stay outside against the hard hitting Darchinyan, and it paid off as he landed 52% of his shots while negating Darchinyan's power. A cut in the 11th proved to be the nail in the coffin for Darchinyan as the fight was stopped for the TKO for Rose.

FINAL:

Elly Bennett vs Lionel Rose - This was a war of attrition as both men went at it from the opening bell! Bennett was the stronger however as in the 9th Rose wilted (nothing as bad as a wilted Rose eh?) just as Bennett came on strong scoring at will before landing the KO blow at the end of the round!

Hussein Hussein vs Mickey Hill - Hussein is too fast and too strong for Hill taking a solid lead before scoring a pair of knockdowns and pounding Hill until the ref stops it in the 5th for the TKO.
