Riverbottom manager and SP Pasta Pepitone once again failed to lead by example, or so it seemed to the 10,242 faithful who muttered and booed with every baserunner he allowed – and there were 13 of them. Blueblood 1B Lanky Longfellow (.269,1,14) and RF Tubby Tomlinson (.300,1,9) each struck RBI doubles to stake the Westsiders to a 2-0 lead in the 1st, then left 10 runners on base the rest of the way. All Star CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.212,4,14) crushed a home run in the 5th to shave West Village’s lead, but DuShoppe ensured that was the limit to the damage. Trade winds have been blowing through Salemwich. This time, a deal has materialized between the Burners and Hollers. According to sources inside the organization, Salemwich will ship 28-year old third baseman BOSSIE CLEMENTINE (15AB, .333,0,2) to Piggville for 28-year old reliever PAPERBOY DAILY (1-0, 6.35, 11 IP).
Daily was deemed excess to requirements for the Piggies with the recent signing of southpaw 24 year-old Bucky Bonanza from Cowtown, where he was 1-0, 2.25.

Burners 3-6 Kin – Kin CF Amy Earhart (.403,3,20) hit an RBI double and 2-run home run to go with C Priscilla Paine’s (.257,4,17) 3-RBI performance as Bumpkindale bumped off Salemwich this afternoon at Kinfolk Korner. All a big relief, to be sure, for Kin manager Cueball Smith, who earned his first win of the season behind a surprisingly competent outing. Bullies 4-5 Nightmares [15 inn] – Riverbottom CF Snooty Rotheschilde (.278,2,8) hit her first two homers of the year - the second being a walkoff in the bottom of the 15th with 2 men out - as part of a five-hit tally at chilly River’s Edge today. The Nightmares rallied from 4-2 down with a stunning 2-run double from RP Conchy Shell in the 8th, ensuring that hot chocolate sales remained brisk for a couple more hours. Blues 10-2 Burners – LF Justin Thyme (.241,2,8), lauded by the press as perhaps the most purely talented player in the West Village club, finally had a breakout game today at Salem Centre. Thyme collected 2 hits in 3 at bats and drove in 2, including a solo shot in the 3rd inning that scraped by the leftfield foul pole. Elderly (33 year-old) reserve RF Black Jack Vegas (.429,0,4) also had a big day with 3 hits and 2 RBI as the Village offense enjoyed a rare day out in the sun. Nightmares 10-2 Hollers – Riverbottom absolutely destroyed Piggville RP Blondie Ferguson, scoring 7 runs over the final two frames to deliver a stunning blow to the league leaders today at The Pig Pen. Nightmare SS Crazy Sara Seine (.224,1,8) drove in 4 off 3 hits, and C Large Marge Franklin (.250,0,8) had a pair of run-scoring doubles to lead the onslaught. A bit of history was made when Seine successfully pulled off a suicide squeeze, scoring Franklin in the 2nd – the first such successful play in FBL history. For the opposition, LF Billy Metro (.446,7,20) hit safely in 2 out of 4 attempts to remain the best hitter in the FBL. Harbour Bay’s 23 year-old rookie SP Buster Bean surrendered double-digit hits again for the second consecutive start. The only consolation for the Crabs was 1B Rip Ripperson’s (.226,3,20) 9th inning homer, a three-run dink that made him the first Bayman to reach the 20-RBI plateau. All Stars 5-11 Bullies – It was all about Grimside’s CF Nick the Dick (.270,1,5) today, as the spunky leadoff man hit safely 4 times and plated thrice in a big win for the homestanding Bullies. Grimside tallied 16 hits in all, and 1B Princess Patsy (.349,2,17) was the chief one to clean up the mess with 3 RBI, including a dramatic 2-run double in the 4th. Citypark’s SP Bully Moe (.118,1,2) tried to help himself with a home run in the 7th, but at the end of the day it proved woefully inadequate. All Stars 4-1 Bullies – LF Billy Metro (.451,8,23) hit his FBL-leading 8th homer of the year to ensure that SP Cal Hobbes’ fine performance did not go wanting. The highlight dinger rode the back of fine hitting by C Merry Patterson (.225,2,8), whose 4 hits marked a career high. The 3-run slam boosted Mitchell to 27 RBI on the campaign, tops on the circuit. Among curiosities in the game, Riverbottom CF Snooty Rotheschilde(17 steals) was caught stealing twice by reserve Piggville C Babydoll Jacobs. The crowd-pleaser was just one of four hits Salmon had on the day, a fact that will not worsen his standing with manager Bombshell Harrison. “It’s tough not playing every day,” admitted Simple, “cuz it forces ya to make the most of the few chances yer gonna git. Both clubs had come in with 12-12 marks on the season, but Bumpkindale figured to have the edge with the mega-talented Strummer on the hill. Alas, Lute was blasted for the second straight start in what might be the beginnings of a worrying situation for the Bumpkin faithful. They can look for hope to CF Amy Earhart (.412,4,27), whose 2 RBI tied her for the league lead at 27. There were some raised eyebrows in the pressbox as Mgr/SP Bombshell Harrison seemingly left herself in past the point of good judgment, allowing the All Stars to claw back within 2 runs after a wild pitch to Billy Metro (.407,8,23) plated Big Ears Lathum (.369,3,22). Harrison finally handed the ball to Lovie Smith – who made matters worse – but CL Pippi Long was finally able to close the door on Lathum’s groundout. Kin 6-5 Nightmares – A real walk in the park today as Riverbottom’s staff allowed 10 passes, exceeding Bumpkindale’s total by one. The Kin got the better of the sloppiness, rebounding from a 5-0 hole to plate 5 over the 6th through 8th innings and ultimately walking out winners, ha ha. Kin CF Amy Earhart (.429,4,31) drew 3 passes herself and was credited with 3 RBI in the process, giving her the current best tally in the FBL. Floyd, who had suffered through a recent 2-for-19 slump, has rebounded to go 6 for her last 12 – all over 3 games against Bumpkindale pitching. RF Pepper Dotson (.320,5,23) had no extra-base hits, but added 2 RBI to the effort to aid the steady pitching of K Queen Blooey Blackman.
