Hollers 3-6 Crabs [15 inn] – Harbour Bay’s exemplary 2B Prance Staley (.391,3,19) smoked a clutch 3-run hogsnorter to dead center, winning a dramatic showdown at The Crab Cage. Daley had also tied the game at 3 apiece when her double between third and short scored Lucky Day. W: Al Good (2-2, 4.80); L: Ox McBiggers (0-1, 6.00); PoG: Prance Staley (5/8, 2R, 4RBI, 2 2Bs, HR)
Burners 8-3 Kin – Reserve Salemwich 1B Harry Carey (.500,0,4) had a big day at the plate, driving in three runs with a single and two sacrifices. Fellow reserve LF Spooner Sanchez (1.000,0,2) collected two hits in his first two FBL at-bats and plated two, helping to cool down red-hot Bumpkindale SP Lute Strummer, who had shutouts in each of his previous two starts. W: Trix Galore (2-4, 5.74); L: Lute Strummer (5-1, 2.03); PoG: Harry Carey (1/2, 1R, 3 RBI) Bullies 5-3 Nightmares – Grimside RF Dummy Hawhaw (.391,3,18) and 1B Unstoppable Bob (.304,0,4) each cracked RBI singles in the 8th to break open a 3-3 ballgame. Riverbottom manager and SP Pasta Pepitone once again failed to lead by example, or so it seemed to the 10,242 faithful who muttered and booed with every baserunner he allowed – and there were 13 of them. W: Bling-Bling Bermudez (4-2, 3.26); L: Pasta Pepitone (1-5, 4.15); PoG: RIV RF Pepper Dotson (2/4, 1R, 3RBI, HR) All Stars 1-2 Blues – West Village SP Cathy DuShoppe scattered 5 hits over 8 to keep the Citypark batsmen pinned down in a tight win at The Village Green tonight. Blueblood 1B Lanky Longfellow (.269,1,14) and RF Tubby Tomlinson (.300,1,9) each struck RBI doubles to stake the Westsiders to a 2-0 lead in the 1st, then left 10 runners on base the rest of the way. All Star CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.212,4,14) crushed a home run in the 5th to shave West Village’s lead, but DuShoppe ensured that was the limit to the damage. W: Cathy DuShoppe (4-2, 3.80); L: Cal Hobbes (1-5, 5.05); S: Heck Martin (5, 3.00); PoG: Cathy DuShoppe (8IP, 5H, 1R, 0BB, 3K) |

Now Hear This:Salemwich-Piggville Swap: CLEMENTINE for DAILY
Trade winds have been blowing through Salemwich. This time, a deal has materialized between the Burners and Hollers. According to sources inside the organization, Salemwich will ship 28-year old third baseman BOSSIE CLEMENTINE (15AB, .333,0,2) to Piggville for 28-year old reliever PAPERBOY DAILY (1-0, 6.35, 11 IP). Daily was deemed excess to requirements for the Piggies with the recent signing of southpaw 24 year-old Bucky Bonanza from Cowtown, where he was 1-0, 2.25. Burners 3-6 Kin – Kin CF Amy Earhart (.403,3,20) hit an RBI double and 2-run home run to go with C Priscilla Paine’s (.257,4,17) 3-RBI performance as Bumpkindale bumped off Salemwich this afternoon at Kinfolk Korner. All a big relief, to be sure, for Kin manager Cueball Smith, who earned his first win of the season behind a surprisingly competent outing. W: Cueball Smith (1-4, 5.02); L: Frowny Malloy (4-2, 3.86); PoG: SAL 3B Innocence O’Malley (3/4, 1R, 2 RBI, HR) Bullies 4-5 Nightmares [15 inn] – Riverbottom CF Snooty Rotheschilde (.278,2,8) hit her first two homers of the year - the second being a walkoff in the bottom of the 15th with 2 men out - as part of a five-hit tally at chilly River’s Edge today. The Nightmares rallied from 4-2 down with a stunning 2-run double from RP Conchy Shell in the 8th, ensuring that hot chocolate sales remained brisk for a couple more hours. W: Corvette Colette (2-0, 2.31); L: Sugarlick Simpson (0-1, 8.31); PoG: Snooty Rotheschilde (5/8, 2R, 2 RBI, 2 HRs) Hollers 7-6 Crabs – 3B Bossie Clementine (.333,1,5) destroyed her old club with a 2-for-3, 3 RBI performance today at The Crab Cage before 10,465 indignant fans. Clementine was traded from Salemwich to Piggville just yesterday evening. CF Daisy Mae Hart (.281,0,8) also struck a critical RBI single in the 5th to lift the Piggies one more game above a Harbour Bay team with pennant pretensions. W: Babe Appleby (5-1, 3.18); L: Big Nate Wimmer (1-2, 5.77); S: Ox McBiggers (3, 4.50); PoG: HB CF Scooter Dane (3/5, 1R, 3 RBI, HR) All Stars 8-3 Blues – All Star 2B Big Ears Lathum (.410,3,21) hit successfully 4 times in 5 at bats and drove in 4 runs in a lopsided win tonight at The Village Green. Lathum started his act with a 2-run dinger in the 3rd, followed an inning later with a 2-run double. LF Billy Metro (.443,7,19) piled on with his league-leading 7th homer – a solo shot in the 3rd that came right on the heels of Lathum’s blast. W: Suzy Q Perkins (4-0, 6.18); L: Pebbles Peete (1-3, 5.93); PoG: Big Ears Lathum (4/5, 1R, 4RBI, 2B, HR) Last edited by Celtic Forever; 08-02-2009 at 11:09 AM. |

Blues 10-2 Burners – LF Justin Thyme (.241,2,8), lauded by the press as perhaps the most purely talented player in the West Village club, finally had a breakout game today at Salem Centre. Thyme collected 2 hits in 3 at bats and drove in 2, including a solo shot in the 3rd inning that scraped by the leftfield foul pole. Elderly (33 year-old) reserve RF Black Jack Vegas (.429,0,4) also had a big day with 3 hits and 2 RBI as the Village offense enjoyed a rare day out in the sun. W: Kid Ferdinand (2-4, 4.30); L: Bombshell Harrison (1-3, 5.79); PoG: Justin Thyme (2/3, 2R, 2RBI, HR)
Nightmares 10-2 Hollers – Riverbottom absolutely destroyed Piggville RP Blondie Ferguson, scoring 7 runs over the final two frames to deliver a stunning blow to the league leaders today at The Pig Pen. Nightmare SS Crazy Sara Seine (.224,1,8) drove in 4 off 3 hits, and C Large Marge Franklin (.250,0,8) had a pair of run-scoring doubles to lead the onslaught. A bit of history was made when Seine successfully pulled off a suicide squeeze, scoring Franklin in the 2nd – the first such successful play in FBL history. RF Pepper Dotson (.280,4,17) weighed in with her 4th dinger of the year off the bumbling Ferguson. W: Mickey Fine (4-2, 3.14); L: Prissy Puddin (4-1, 1.79); PoG: Crazy Sara Seine (3/4, 1R, 4RBI) All Stars 2-4 Bullies – Grimsider SP Holy Hale won her second straight decision, conceding only a brace over 8 innings in a midtable confrontation at Homeboy Field. LF Little Red Rider (.269,0,5) did the job at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI to continue her hot streak (5 hits in 11 at bats). For the opposition, LF Billy Metro (.446,7,20) hit safely in 2 out of 4 attempts to remain the best hitter in the FBL. W: Holy Hale (3-2, 2.93); L: Dooley McCooley (1-3, 4.30); S: Sugarlick Simpson (1, 7.45); PoG: Holy Hale (8IP, 7H, 2R, 2BB, 4K) Crabs 5-8 Kin – Bumpkindale CF Amy Earhart (.407,4,24) smashed a 3-run homer and C Priscilla Paine (.257,5,18) added a solo shot as the Kin got ‘er done tonight at Kinfolk Korner. Harbour Bay’s 23 year-old rookie SP Buster Bean surrendered double-digit hits again for the second consecutive start. The only consolation for the Crabs was 1B Rip Ripperson’s (.226,3,20) 9th inning homer, a three-run dink that made him the first Bayman to reach the 20-RBI plateau. W: Hambone Helgersson (3-1, 5.14); L: Buster Bean (0-2, 8.10); PoG: Amy Earhart (2/4, 2R, 4RBI, 2B, HR) |

Blues 7-5 Burners – Village CF Oh-Yoo Suk (.270,0,4) hit a 2-run double among his three hits, and West Village dumped the Burners for the second straight day. W: Hairbow Haley (1-3, 4.98); L: Cutie Capers (1-2, 4.24); S: Heck Martin (6, 2.45); PoG: Oh-Yoo Suk (3/5, 2R, 2RBI, 2B)
Nightmares 7-5 Hollers – RF Pepper Dotson (.299,5,20) ripped a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th to give Riverbottom a second-straight win at The Pig Pen. 1B Wally Walleye (.310,0,16) contributed with a 2-run double in the third to hand Piggville’s SP Ice Cream Jones his first loss of the campaign. W: Conchy Shell (1-0, 3.12); L: Ice Cream Jones (4-1, 3.54); S: Angel O’Hare (3, 0.00); PoG: Pepper Dotson (3/5, 2R, 3 RBI, HR) Crabs 5-4 Kin – HB SS Scooter Dane clipped a go-ahead RBI single past a diving Giggles Mountjoy in the top of the 10th, scoring C Boobsy Daniels, and CL Al Good held on as Harbour Bay won today at Kinfolk Korner. W: Al Good (3-2, 4.64); L: Dot Ureye (0-2, 10.80); PoG: BUM 3B Killer Carp (3/5, 1R, 1RBI, 2B) All Stars 5-11 Bullies – It was all about Grimside’s CF Nick the Dick (.270,1,5) today, as the spunky leadoff man hit safely 4 times and plated thrice in a big win for the homestanding Bullies. Grimside tallied 16 hits in all, and 1B Princess Patsy (.349,2,17) was the chief one to clean up the mess with 3 RBI, including a dramatic 2-run double in the 4th. Citypark’s SP Bully Moe (.118,1,2) tried to help himself with a home run in the 7th, but at the end of the day it proved woefully inadequate. W: Nacho Daddy (3-0, 3.96); L: Bully Moe (1-2, 6.33); PoG: Nick the Dick (4/5, 3R, 1 RBI, 2 2Bs) |

All Stars 4-1 Bullies – LF Billy Metro (.451,8,23) hit his FBL-leading 8th homer of the year to ensure that SP Cal Hobbes’ fine performance did not go wanting. The highlight dinger rode the back of fine hitting by C Merry Patterson (.225,2,8), whose 4 hits marked a career high. W: Cal Hobbes (2-5, 4.50); L: Bling-Bling Bermudez (4-3, 3.38); S: Loopy Alice Otter (4, 2.57); PoG: Cal Hobbes (7IP, 5H, 1R, 2BB, 4K)
Nightmares 2-5 Hollers – Piggy SS Dennis Mitchell (.297,6,27) hit a walkoff homer with 2 out, breaking a tense 2-2 affair at The Pig Pen. The 3-run slam boosted Mitchell to 27 RBI on the campaign, tops on the circuit. Among curiosities in the game, Riverbottom CF Snooty Rotheschilde(17 steals) was caught stealing twice by reserve Piggville C Babydoll Jacobs. W: Buzz Walcott (1-0, 0.00); L: Corvette Colette (2-1, 4.63); PoG: Dennis Mitchell (1/5, 2R, 3RBI, HR) Blues 3-4 Burners [11 inn] – Salemwich won their first game in four and avoided a sweep at the hands of bottom-feeders Village, thanks to an 11th inning walkoff homer from reserve RF Simple Salmon (.214,1,3). The crowd-pleaser was just one of four hits Salmon had on the day, a fact that will not worsen his standing with manager Bombshell Harrison. “It’s tough not playing every day,” admitted Simple, “cuz it forces ya to make the most of the few chances yer gonna git. I think today I showed everyone I belong in this here league.” W: Lips Hallihan (1-2, 4.05); L: Freckles Fairaway (0-2, 17.00); PoG: Simple Salmon (4/5, 2R, 2RBI, HR) Crabs 6-5 Kin – Bayman CF Scooter Dane (.267,1,15) had 2 hits in 4 tries and drove in a critical run in the 5th off Lute Strummer as Harbour Bay won against their nearest rivals. Both clubs had come in with 12-12 marks on the season, but Bumpkindale figured to have the edge with the mega-talented Strummer on the hill. Alas, Lute was blasted for the second straight start in what might be the beginnings of a worrying situation for the Bumpkin faithful. They can look for hope to CF Amy Earhart (.412,4,27), whose 2 RBI tied her for the league lead at 27. W: Emma Queen (4-2, 4.99); L: Lute Strummer (5-2, 2.75); S: Al Good (1, 4.72); PoG: Amy Earhart (2/3, 1R, 2RBI) |

Bullies 1-6 Hollers – Piggville SP Babe Appleby allowed only one run over 8 as his Hollers made short work of Grimside today before 8,515 at The Pig Pen. Support came from 1B Tuck Thompson (.330,6,19), who has broken out of a 1-for-19 slump to record 4 hits in his last 5 at bats. Tuck also hit his first homer since April 12th, a 450-foot blast to right-center. W: Babe Appleby (6-1, 2.90); L: Margarita Lime (2-4, 5.72); PoG: Babe Appleby (8IP, 7H, 1R, 6BB, 5K)
Burners 3-5 All Stars [14 inn] – Citypark CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.196,6,18) went deep twice, the second home run being a game winner that ended a marathon at Big City Ballpark. The first tied the game in the 9th off Salemwich CL Pippi Long – her third blown save of the season. W: Mondo Cruz (2-2, 1.76); L: Pippi Long (1-1, 5.11); PoG: DJ Jazzy Twan (2/6, 2R, 4 RBI, 2 HRs) Kin 8-5 Nightmares – 3B Killer Carp (.333,2,13) hit a 2-run homer and CF Amy Earhart (.427,4,29) went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI as Bumpkindale won on a cold, cloudy evening at The River’s Edge tonight. For manager Cueball Smith it was his 2nd personal win after 4 setbacks to open the season, which should help him rest easier at night. W: Cueball Smith (2-4, 4.80); L: Johnny Doe (2-4, 5.32); PoG: Killer Carp (2/5, 3R, 2RBI, HR) Crabs 2-3 Blues [11 inn] – West Village SP Pebbles Peete carried a no-hitter through 5, only to watch in horror as Crab 1B Rip Ripperson (.231,3,23) struck a 2-run double in the 6th to give Harbour Bay a 2-1 lead. Alas for the Baymen, CL Al Good gave up a tying RBI double in the bottom of the 9th to RF Tubby Tomlinson (.329,1,12), and RP Boner McGee pulled a similar stunt in the 11th, to C Primo Segundo (.278,1,11). W: Francine Fokker (1-0, 3.07); L: Boner McGee (0-1, 3.38); PoG: Pebbles Peete (9IP, 5H, 2R, 3BB, 3K) Last edited by Celtic Forever; 08-05-2009 at 09:02 AM. |

Bullies 5-11 Hollers – Holler C Red Harris (.247,1,11) was 3-for-4 with a home run, and 2B Copper Wade (.301,3,22) likewise hit safely in 3 trips as Piggville stayed dominant over Grimside, beating the Bullies for the 4th time against no losses. W: Prissy Puddin (5-1, 2.21); L: Holy Hale (3-3, 3.81); PoG: Red Harris (3/4, 2R, 2RBI, 2B, HR)
Burners 7-6 All Stars – Burner CF Muscles Mason (.329,2,13) clubbed a dinger and 3B Innocence O’Malley (.305,4,18) drove in two as Salemwich pipped Citypark by the slimmest of margins. There were some raised eyebrows in the pressbox as Mgr/SP Bombshell Harrison seemingly left herself in past the point of good judgment, allowing the All Stars to claw back within 2 runs after a wild pitch to Billy Metro (.407,8,23) plated Big Ears Lathum (.369,3,22). Harrison finally handed the ball to Lovie Smith – who made matters worse – but CL Pippi Long was finally able to close the door on Lathum’s groundout. W: Bombshell Harrison (2-3, 5.82); L: Dooley McCooley (1-4, 4.94); S: Pippi Long (2, 4.40); PoG: CIT 3B Snuggles Henderson (3/5, 1R, 2RBI, 2B) Kin 6-5 Nightmares – A real walk in the park today as Riverbottom’s staff allowed 10 passes, exceeding Bumpkindale’s total by one. The Kin got the better of the sloppiness, rebounding from a 5-0 hole to plate 5 over the 6th through 8th innings and ultimately walking out winners, ha ha. Kin CF Amy Earhart (.429,4,31) drew 3 passes herself and was credited with 3 RBI in the process, giving her the current best tally in the FBL. W: Hambone Helgersson (4-1, 5.14); L: Corvette Colette (2-2, 4.40); S: Wags Coughlin (4, 4.50); PoG: RIV LF Imogene Floyd (2/4, 2RBI) Crabs 3-5 Blues – Village C Primo Segundo gave his clutch skills a rare day out, striking a key home run and knocking in 3 overall . W: Kid Ferdinand (3-4, 3.81); L: Buster Bean (0-3, 7.52); S: Heck Martin (7, 3.00); PoG: Primo Segundo (3/4, 1R, 3RBI, HR) Last edited by Celtic Forever; 08-05-2009 at 09:07 AM. |

Bullies 1-8 Hollers – Piggville SP Blondie Ferguson (.222,1,5) made sure of her first win as a starter by crushing a 3-run home run in the 3rd, that in and of itself proving enough to beat the one measly run Grimside managed today. 3B Bossie Clementine (.250,2,8) also jacked one as the Pigs raced to an early 7-0 lead and cruised behind the efficient pitching of Ferguson the rest of the way. W: Blondie Ferguson (1-0, 3.18); L: Groovy Barnes (1-2, 8.59); PoG: Blondie Ferguson (9IP, 4H, 1R, 1BB, 1K)
Burners 3-5 All Stars – CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.221,7,22)had himself a big day at the plate, smoking a home run and adding a 2-run double in support of an increasingly-efficient SP Bully Moe. Salemwich had little to answer the challenge of Moe, save for CF Muscles Mason (.345,3,14), who went 3-for-5 and is fast establishing himself as one of the better leadoff men in the game. W: Bully Moe (8IP, 4H, 3R, 5BB, 5K); L: Cutie Capers (1-3, 4.50); S: Zippo Cook (1, 4.02); PoG: DJ Jazzy Twan (2/3, 1R, 3RBI, HR, 2B) Kin 2-5 Nightmares – LF Imogene Floyd (.327,2,13) [trivia note: my Grandma] prospered in the cleanup spot for Riverbottom today, slamming a Blum offering off the right-center wall for a 2-run double and collecting three hits in all. Floyd, who had suffered through a recent 2-for-19 slump, has rebounded to go 6 for her last 12 – all over 3 games against Bumpkindale pitching. RF Pepper Dotson (.320,5,23) had no extra-base hits, but added 2 RBI to the effort to aid the steady pitching of K Queen Blooey Blackman. W: Blooey Blackman (2-2, 3.20); L: Cowlick Blum (1-2, 5.35); Conchy Shell (1, 2.79); PoG: Blooey Blackman (8IP, 7H, 2R, 2BB, 6K) Crabs 1-6 Blues – A good day for The Village today as clutch hitting and competent pitching came together in a win at The Village Green before 6,353. RF Tubby Tomlinson (.350,1,16) had two singles which accounted for 4 RBI and SP Hairbow Haley scattered 7 hits to keep a strong Crab team at ‘Bay’, tee hee. W: Hairbow Haley (2-3, 4.32); L: Dazzy Dandridge (2-3, 5.68); S: Miggy McIver (1, 5.11); PoG: Hairbow Haley (6.2IP, 7H, 0R, 5BB, 5K) Now Hear This: The FBL’s Best for April • Batter: BUM CF Amy Earhart - .426, 4, 31 • Pitcher: PIG SP Babe Appleby – 6-1, 2.90, 26K • Rookie: SAL CF Muscles Mason - .345, 3, 14 April’s Best Performances 1. All Stars 6-9 Crabs – 3B Jenny Crush (.200,0,13) keyed a big 3-run 3rd inning with a double down the line, and LF Buster Lowe (.323,4,22) added 3 hits and 2 runs as the Crabs pinched the All Stars today before 10,035 at The Crab Cage. Citypark SP Cal Hobbes continued his rough form of late, surrendering 10 hits and 8 runs over 4.1, despite having good control. W: Emma Queen (5-2, 4.98); L: Cal Hobbes (2-6, 5.50); PoG: Buster Lowe (3/4, 2R, 1RBI)
Hollers 8-2 Kin – 1B Tuck Thompson (.340,6,21) ripped 3 hits in 5 at bats and drove in 2 to lead the Hollers to a win over their closest league rivals today at Kinfolk Korner. CF Daisy Mae Hart (.315,0,12) was also outstanding, with 3 hits, 2 runs and a stolen base – her 15th of the year. SP Coonskin Tate won his first game in his last 3 starts, and was troubled only by ace Kin CF Amy Earhart (.429,4,31), who was 2-for-4 with a double. W: Coonskin Tate (4-2, 3.21); Lute Strummer (5-3, 3.45); PoG: Coonskin Tate (8.1IP, 7H, 2R, 3BB, 6K) Burners 0-10 Bullies – Quite the day for Grimsider SP Bling-Bling Bermudez (.208,0,6), who not only recorded a complete-game shutout, but also went 2-for-4 at the plate and plated 4. Among other unlikely occurences, C April Mae June (.168,3,11) – one of the worst-hitting regulars in the FBL – had 2 hits and 3 RBI, including her 1st double of the year. W: Bling-Bling Bermudez (5-3, 2.91); L: Frowny Malloy (4-3, 4.13); PoG: Bling-Bling Bermudez (9IP, 6H, 0R, 3BB, 3K) Nightmares 6-5 Blues – RF Pepper Dotson (.327,6,28)continued to establish a reputation as one of the best batsmen in the FBL, striking a homer to deep center and driving in 5 overall to nearly account for all of Riverbottom’s offense on her own. SP Pasta Pepitone (.182,0,1) did manage to support himself a bit at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, helping him gain his first win in his last 4 starts. W: Pasta Pepitone (2-5, 3.59); L: Cathy DuShoppe (4-3, 3.82); S: Angel O’Hare (4, 0.00); PoG: Pepper Dotson (2/4, 1R, 5RBI, HR) Now Hear This: Pigs Pull Away With the conclusion of today’s action, Piggville (22-7) is the only club with a winning record, or indeed with a non-losing record. The next five clubs sport identical 14-15 marks, good for a .483 win percentage. West Village finally has some company in the basement, being joined by Salemwich at 12-17. |

All Stars 6-5 Crabs – Harbour Bay’s reserve SS Fulsom Prizen (.455,0,1) delivered a clutch RBI single in the bottom of the 8th, scoring Jumpin Jane Lane, to bring the Crabs back from a 5-3 deficit. Citypark struck back immediately, however, when 2B Big Ears Lathum (.365,3,25) singled in Smilin’ Andy Tandy for the game winner in the top of the 9th. CL Loopy Alice Otter, having blown her save opportunity in the 8th, now took advantage of the opportunity for a ‘W’. W: Loopy Alice Otter (3-0, 4.00); L: Lucy Deuce (1-1, 0.82); PoG: Fulsom Prizen (2/4, 1R, 1RBI)
Burners 7-4 Bullies – Salemwich 3B Innocence O’Malley (.284,4,20) spanked an RBI triple and reserve RF Y.I. Otta (.219,0,3) had a couple of hits with 2 RBI as the Old Towners got a much-needed win today before 7,860 at Homeboy Field. The win served as a renaissance of sorts for SP Trix Galore, who earned her 2nd victory in her last 3 starts, after having dropped 4 of her first 5. W: Trix Galore (3-4, 4.92); L: Holy Hale (3-4, 4.20); PoG: Y.I. Otta (2/4, 2RBI) Nightmares 10-3 Blues – A big day for C Large Marge Franklin (.267,0,12), as she connected on 4 out of 6 at bats and drove in 3 runs in Riverbottom’s destruction of West Village tonight. CF Snooty Rotheschilde (.294,2,9) also had some notable numbers in the effort, stealing successfully on 3 of 3 attempts, and she ran her hitting streak to 13 games with a game-opening single. W: Mickey Fine (5-2, 3.55); L: Kid Ferdinand (3-5, 4.35); PoG: Large Marge Franklin (4/6, 1R, 3RBI, 3B) Hollers 6-2 Kin – A wonderful complete-game effort today from Piggville Mgr/SP Babe Appleby, who won his third straight start this evening and 7th overall, putting him atop the FBL charts. Chief offensive support came off the bat of sterling RF Spunk Williams (.349,2,16), who plated 3 runs from his 2 base hits. W: Babe Appleby (7-1, 2.51); L: Cueball Smith (2-5, 5.15); PoG: Babe Appleby (9IP, 4H, 2R, 1BB, 2K) |

Hollers 3-5 Kin – 1B Giggles Mountjoy (.368,6,25) had a couple of doubles, plating two, and ol’ Hambone was pleasantly efficient off the mound as Bumpkindale pushed back to within a game of .500 at Kinfolk Korner today. Holler SP Prissy Puddin suffered her 2nd loss in her last 3 starts. W: Hambone Helgersson (5-1, 4.92); L: Prissy Puddin (5-2, 2.11); S: Wags Coughlin (5, 3.86); PoG: Giggles Mountjoy (2/2, 1R, 2RBI, 2 2Bs)
All Stars 10-2 Crabs – 3B Snuggles Henderson (.342,2,17) and C Merry Patterson (.237,2,9) each had a brace of doubles, and CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.212,8,23) struck his FBL-leading 8th homer as Citypark routed Harbour Bay today at The Crab Cage. SP Dooley McCooley was wild (6 walks) but went the distance for a much-needed victory. W: Dooley McCooley (2-4, 4.50); L: Buster Bean (0-4, 8.56); PoG: Snuggles Henderson (4/5, 3R, 3RBI, 2 2Bs) Burners 0-5 Bullies – An unexpectedly dominant outing from SP Margarita Lime this evening, as she poo-pooed every potential Old Towner rally en route to her first win in her last 4 starts. Help came from CF Nick The Dick (.305,1,6), who collected 3 hits in raising his average above .300 for the first time all year, and 2B Aggie McDaddy (.276,1,12), who repeatedly drove him in. W: Margarita Lime (3-4, 4.85); L: Cutie Capers (1-4, 4.69); PoG: Margarita Lime (9IP, 7H, 0R, 2BB, 2K) Nightmares 0-3 Blues – SP Hairbow Haley carried a no-hitter through 6, losing it 2 pitches later on a single up the middle from Nightmare RF Pepper Dotson (.330,6,30). This is the first career shutout for Haley, who has now won her last 3 starts. Offensively, the Villagers only mustered 4 hits themselves – 2 of them from LF Justin Thyme (.261,2,14), whose 4th inning 2-run double effectively decided the game. W: Hairbow Haley (3-3, 3.66); L: Blooey Blackman (2-3, 3.22); PoG: Hairbow Haley (9IP, 4H, 0R, 4BB, 8K) |

Burners 6-9 Crabs – Another day at the office for the high-scoring Crustaceans, who made mincemeat of spot-starter Lips Hallihan. Eight runs were plated in the first 3 innings, the primary damage coming from a 2-run triple by CF Scooter Dane (.293,1,18) and a pair of clutch RBI singles off the bat of 1B Rip Ripperson (.241,3,27). Leadoff-man RF Buckethead Bramble (.269,3,19) crossed the plate 3 times, and stole 2 bases to reach the 20-steal plateau. W: Dazzy Dandridge (3-3, 5.13); L: Lips Hallihan (1-3, 6.33); PoG: SAL C Bonnie Clyde (4/5, 2R)
Blues 4-5 Hollers – Quick body blows from Piggville in the 1st and 3rd settled this one early, although credit to Village for trying to mount a comeback against the stingy Ice Cream Man. Mudslopper RF Spunk Williams (.365,2,19) launched a rocket off the BFI sign in left-center for a run-scoring double, and plated 3 in all to lead the Piggville batsmen. Jones continues to plug away, now having won 5 of his last 6 starts to little acclaim, as he plays in the shadows of Puddin and Appleby. W: Ice Cream Jones (5-1, 3.62); L: Pebbles Peete (1-4, 5.28); PoG: Spunk Williams (2/3, 1R, 3RBI, 2B) Nightmares 7-10 All Stars – Citypark scored 7 runs in the 5th to put this one away, the outburst coming hard on the heels of a 4-run broadside from the Rivermen. Mgr/3B Snuggles Henderson (.347,2,18) did her bit on the field for the Stars, striking an RBI triple in the big 5th and scoring once herself. A fine effort in defeat from light-hitting Nightmare SS Crazy Sara Seine (.231,2,13), who drove in 4 off of 3 base hits. W: Bully Moe (3-2, 5.93); L: Johnny Doe (2-5, 6.28); S: Loopy Alice Otter (5, 3.60); PoG: Crazy Sara Seine (3/4, 1R, 4RBI, 3B, HR) Bullies 8-10 Kin – A key RBI triple from RF Thumby Holt (.327,0,17) spurred a decisive 3-run outburst from Bumpkindale in the 6th, as the Kin won a thriller before 10,057 delighted patrons at Kinfolk Korner. CF maven Amy Earheart (.413,4,33) was typically efficient, hitting safely twice with an RBI to ensure she remained the only batsman above the .400 mark in the FBL. W: Dot Ureye (1-2, 8.16); L: Nacho Daddy (3-1, 5.12); S: Wags Coughlin (6, 3.48); PoG: Thumby Holt (2/4, 3R, 3RBI, 2B, 3B) Last edited by Celtic Forever; 08-11-2009 at 08:54 AM. |

Burners 3-4 Crabs – Bay C Boobsy Daniels (.318,3,16) cracked a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the 7th, scoring SP Emma Queen, and the Crab relief corpse held on despite a last-ditch scoring single from Burner SS Dude O’Day (.214,0,5) as Harbour Bay squeaked by this afternoon. Despite 21 hits combined, only two were for extra bases – one a homer from Salemwich 3B Innocence O’Malley (.281,5,22) that knotted the game at 2-2 in the 6th. W: Emma Queen (6-2, 4.52); L: Frowny Malloy (4-4, 3.91); S: Al Good (2, 4.58); PoG: Emma Queen (8IP, 5H, 2R, 3BB, 2K)
Blues 0-3 Hollers – Piggville continues to conquer all before them, today whitewashing The Village behind the strong right arm of 24 year-old SP Coonskin Tate. 1B Tuck Thompson (.362,7,23) continued his torrid form of late – 10 for his last 16 AB - whomping a solo shot to left-center that was estimated at 433’. W: Coonskin Tate (5-2, 2.80); L: Cathy DuShoppe (4-4, 3.80); PoG: Coonskin Tate (9IP, 3H, 0R, 1BB, 6K) Nightmares 5-4 All Stars [12 inn] – Riverbottom LF Imogene Floyd (.305,3,17) smashed her 3rd homer of the year – a 426’ shot that just curled inside the rightfield foul pole – to hand her team the lead in the 12th, and CL Angel O’Hare continued her perfect form to seal the deal today at Big City Ballpark. Park LF Billy Metro (.377,9,29) may be slumping lately, but he did thrill the 7,964-strong crowd with his FBL-leading 9th home run – a 3-run blow that briefly established a 4-2 lead in the 3rd. W: Conchy Shell (2-0, 2.70); L: GabbyAbby Farmer (1-2, 1.84); S: Angel O’Hare (5, 0.00); PoG: Billy Metro (1/6, 1R, 3RBI, HR) Bullies 1-6 Kin – SP Lute Strummer returned to triumph after 3 straight setbacks, but was forced to leave the game in the 6th with a sore shoulder. RP Cowlick Blum was masterful the rest of the way, conceding only one hit and picking up a hard-won save. RF Thumby Holt (.337,0,18) hit an RBI double and C Priscilla Paine (.282,6,22) banged a dinger to power the offense. W: Lute Strummer (6-3, 3.31); L: Bling-Bling Bermudez (5-4, 3.30); S: Cowlick Blum (1, 4.82); PoG: Lute Strummer (5.1, 4H, 1R, 1BB, 4K) Now Hear This: Day-to-Day Injury Shelves Strummer Kin starting pitcher LUTE STRUMMER was injured while throwing a pitch yesterday against the Grimside Bullies. It was diagnosed as a tender shoulder. He is not expected to miss too much action and will be listed as day-to-day. Team doctors said it could be as long as 1-2 weeks before Bumpkindale standout player returns to the lineup. |

Bullies 7-4 Kin – 1B Princess Patsy (.338,2,21) smacked 2 doubles for 3 RBI combined, and SS Slowey Zoe Zamm (.270,0,20) drove in a couple of her own to guide Grimside over the hicks from Bumpkindale today before 8,565 at Kinfolk Korner. W: Holy Hale (4-4, 4.17); L: Cueball Smith (2-6, 5.43); PoG: Princess Patsy (3/5, 3RBI, 2 2Bs)
Blues 2-5 Hollers – A second straight complete-game win for SP Babe Appleby, and his 4th win on the trot. No homers from the Piggies, but they did punch 4 doubles – RF Spunk Williams’ (.374,2,22) doing the most damage, driving in 2 in the opening stanza. W: Babe Appleby (8-1, 2.45); L: Kid Ferdinand (3-6, 4.57); PoG: Babe Appleby (9IP, 7H, 2R, 1BB, 5K) Nightmares 8-9 All Stars – Down 9-0 in the 6th, Riverbottom almost completed a wild comeback by scoring 7 in the 7th, fueled by LF Imogene Floyd’s (.303,4,21) grand slam dinger. Ultimately, however, the timely hitting of Citypark’s ‘Power Company’ – Metro and Twan – was enough to preserve the win at Big City Ballpark. DJ Jazzy Twan (.227,9,25) connected on his 9th homer, tying Billy Metro (.381,9,30) for the FBL lead – a feat which Metro refused to comment on post-game. W: Suzy Q Perkins (5-0, 5.64); L: Mickey Fine (5-3, 4.15); S: Loopy Alice Otter (6, 3.27); PoG: Imogene Floyd (1/4, 1R, 4RBI, HR) Crabs 6-4 Burners – Harbour Bay ran their record against Salemwich to 5-1 behind the big bat of 3B Jenny Crush (.241,0,16), who went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI including a game-winning RBI single in the top of the 9th to break open a 4-4 ballgame. Big Nate Wimmer (.207,0,2) also helped his own cause with a run-producing single of his own in the same inning. There was a murmur amongst the Burner faithful when Mgr/SP Bombshell Harrison came out of the bullpen in the 9th, then promptly blew the game. In her post-game comments, Harrison said her self-imposed demotion to the pen will stick, with Lips Hallihan taking her place in the rotation. W: Big Nate Wimmer (2-2, 5.19); L: Bombshell Harrison (2-4, 6.09); S: Al Good (3, 4.46); PoG: Jenny Crush (4/4, 2R, 3RBI, 2B) Last edited by Celtic Forever; 08-13-2009 at 09:13 AM. |

Crabs 4-7 Bullies – 1B Aggie McDaddy (.278,1,15) doubled and tripled, plating two, to help Grimside to a win today at Homeboy Field in front of 5,602 patrons. RF Dummy Hawhaw (.354,3,23) had no extra base hits, but managed to drive in 3 runs off a pair of singles anyway. The Baysiders had little answer for that, with the result that SP Margarita Lime stayed unbeaten (2-0) against them. W: Margarita Lime (4-4, 4.93); L: Buster Bean (0-5, 8.63); S: Groovy Barnes (1, 7.92); PoG: Dummy Hawhaw (2/3, 1R, 3RBI)
Burners 4-5 Nightmares – RF Pepper Dotson (.317,6,31) thumped a go-ahead double in the bottom of the 8th, scoring Onion Munyon, as Riverbottom nailed Salemwich a bit deeper into the basement. 3B Onion Munyon (.328,0,18) went a perfect 4-for-4, and is 6 for his last 9 overall. On a postive note for the Burners, 3B Innocence O’Malley (.291,7,26) has now homered for the 3rd game in a row. W: Corvette Colette (3-2, 3.32); L: Disco Davison (1-1, 5.59); S: Angel O’Hare (6, 0.00); PoG: Onion Munyon (4/4, 1R, 1RBI) Hollers 6-4 All Stars – Another seemingly smooth outing for Prissy Puddin turned alarmist in the 8th, when a wild pitch followed by a double from C Merry Patterson (.268,2,12) plated 3, pushing Citypark to within a run at 5-4. In came suspect CL Saucy Smothers for a dejected Puddin, and he was able to record the 4 outs remaining. 1B Tuck Thompson (.374,8,26) led the Hollers with a 3-for-4 performance that included a 2-run blast over the boards at dead center. Citypark Mgr/3B Snuggles Henderson (.336,2,18) is contemplating disciplinary action against star LF Billy Metro (.369,9,30), who three times refused to sacrifice CF DJ Jazzy Twan (.239,9,25) over. Metro finished 0-for-4. W: Prissy Puddin (6-2, 2.00); L: Dooley McCooley (2-5, 4.70); S: Saucy Smothers (2, 3.68); PoG: Tuck Thompson (3/4, 1R, 3RBI, HR) Kin 2-10 Blues – Villager SP Hairbow Haley won her 4th on the trot and 3B Nancy Collagen (.304,0,10) broke out of a 1-for-14 slump as West Village romped to victory tonight at The Village Green. Collagen cracked 2 doubles – good for 2 RBI - in raising her average back above the .300 mark. W: Hairbow Haley (4-3, 3.49); L: Hambone Helgersson (5-2, 5.63); PoG: Hairbow Haley (8IP, 8H, 2R, 2BB, 5K) Thirsty Thursday Update Now that the weather has warmed a little, the FBL has begun holding ‘Thirsty Thursdays’ as a league-wide promotion, with tap beer being dispensed at $0.25 per cup. Crabs 5-4 Bullies – Harbour Bay C Boobsy Daniels (.328,4,19) was the big hero today, smacking a 2-run homer in the top of the 7th to draw the game even at 4, then scoring RF Buckethead Bramble (.283,3,20) with a single in the 9th for the go-ahead run. Grimside SP Nacho Daddy (.320,1,7) provided some unexpected fireworks, stroking a 3-run homer of his own in the 4th to help establish an early 4-0 lead. He would have helped himself even more had he been able to hold up Bramble on the basepaths – Buckethead had 3 steals today, giving him 27 for the season. W: Lucy Deuce (2-1, 0.78); L: Groovy Barnes (1-3, 7.96); S: Al Good (4, 4.35); PoG: Boobsy Daniels (3/5, 1R, 3RBI, HR)
Burners 6-4 Nightmares – 1B Boo-Boo Baker (.245,3,16) smoked a 3-run homer to help Salemwich to a much-needed win at The River’s Edge today before 9,632. The win must come as a boost in the arm for spot-starter Lovie Smith, who started a game for the first time since a humiliating 14-3 loss to Bumpkindale on April 21. W: Lovie Smith (1-1, 8.17); L: Johnny Doe (2-6, 6.45); S: Pippi Long (3, 3.94); PoG: RIV RF Pepper Dotson (2/3, 1R, 2RBI, HR) Hollers 4-1 All Stars – Piggville SP Ice Cream Jones went the whole distance to win his second start in a row, helped by RF Spunk Williams (.376,2,23), who went 3-for-5 with an RBI double. CF Daisy Mae Hart (.312,0,14) stole two bases to give her 23 for the year. W: Ice Cream Jones (6-1, 3.22); L: Bully Moe (3-3, 5.85); PoG: Ice Cream Jones (9IP, 6H, 1R, 3BB, 0K) Kin 7-3 Blues – 2B Grumpy Gil Meyer (.247,2,12) struck a 3-run homer, while fellow Kin C Priscilla Paine (.301,6,23) and LF Russ Parsons (.233,1,16) each clocked RBI doubles to lead Bumpkindale today. SP Katie Currant had one of her better outings, earning her 1st win in 3 starts despite conceding 4 doubles. W: Katie Currant (2-2, 5.17); L: Francine Fokker (1-1, 4.50); S: Wags Coughlin (7, 3.86); PoG: Grumpy Gil Meyer (2/5, 2R, 3RBI, HR) |

Hollers 3-4 All Stars – Mgr/ 3B Snuggles Henderson (.331,2,19) ripped a game-winning RBI single with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th to send the crowd into rapture at Big City Ballpark today. The shot ruined the comeback heroics of Holler C Red Harris (.277,2,21), who had singled in 2 runs in the top of the 8th to level matters at 3 apiece. W: Cal Hobbes (3-6, 4.80); L: Blondie Ferguson (1-1, 3.47); PoG: Red Harris (3/4, 3RBI, 2B)
Burners 6-2 Nightmares – Despite allowing 10 hits, Frowny Malloy went the distance for Salemwich and picked up the win, boosting him back over the .500 mark – signifigant for a guy on a bottom-dweller team. No big bombs were on offer from the offense, but C Bonnie Clyde (.348,0,17) did clout a 2-run single in the 4th that staked the Old Towners to a 4-2 lead in the 5th. W: Frowny Malloy (5-4, 3.69); L: Pasta Pepitone (2-6, 3.76); PoG: Frowny Malloy (9IP, 10H, 2R, 3BB, 2K) Crabs 10-4 Bullies – Harbour Bay 2B Prance Staley (.349,3,24) connected safely 4 times in 5, driving in 4, as the Baymen laid waste to the Grimside pitching staff today at Homeboy Field. A critical 5-run 5th inning for the Crabs was fueled by Staley’s 2-run single, followed by an RBI double from 3B Jenny Crush (.236,0,17). 1B Rip Ripperson (.267,4,33) jacked out a 3-run homer in the 8th to put the game beyond reach. W: Emma Queen (7-2, 4.52); L: Bling-Bling Bermudez (5-5, 3.74); PoG: Prance Staley (4/5, 2R, 3RBI, 2B) Kin 4-2 Blues – Trailing 2-1 entering the top of the 9th, Bumpkindale rallied for 3 runs via a sac fly from RF Thumby Holt (.336,0,19), an RBI single from 2B Grumpy Gil Meyer (.272,2,13) and another sac fly from SS Tiger Blue (.190,0,9). It was all wonderful redemption for Meyer, whose bumbling of SP Cathy DuShoppe’s routine grounder in the 2nd had conceded the opening run to West Village. For Grumpy Gil, it was the third error of the campaign. W: Cowlick Blum (2-2, 3.97); L: Cathy DuShoppe (4-5, 3.61); S: Wags Coughlin (8, 3.55); PoG: Cowlick Blum (8IP, 4H, 2R, 5BB, 2K) |
