I am going to create a fictional world with fictional teams but based in real world history. Start in 1901 wth 16 teams and full minors and feeder league and then expand slowly over the years till I get to 30 teams. I am also going to have 14 other leagues around the world starting up at various times. Them after I have 100 years of history take over a team and play around 2000/2001 or so. I want to sort of do a J. Henry Waugh thing and make a fictional world to enjoy, I have a bunch of friends interested in this and want to get in also. I do need some help though. I need a good list of cities to have the original teams in. I don't want just the major cities but also some plausible cities where teams may have start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I usually do an English Baseball League. Starts in 1946 with 8 teams in 2 divisions, expand to 10 in 1960 and then to 12 (in 3 divisions) in 1980. 3 levels of minors, AAA London League, AA South Coast League, A East Midlands League. Might do a college and high school league too if the feeder league relationships are improved.

I think I will do a fictional universe based off of two old Independent Leagues that eventualy became major league affilites.

The old Three I league, The Iowa-Illinois-Indiana league that ran for almost 60years and the Souther Association that lasted just over 60 years.

I will be the commish of both leagues and let the players move from one league to another. No minors but now I can have a reserve roster size limit!!!!!

I may also add a couple of smaller leagues to the universe that play a lower quality of baseball. All of this will be based in the 1930's.

I have a 36 team major league--2 sub leagues of 18 each--6 in each division. Division winners + wild card. Two levels of minor leagues at moment--three seperate leagues at each level--12 teams in each league. Hope to add a single A level at some point with same structure.

I like this idea! Ever think about posting the results in the dynasty forum?

Does the game come with one pre-included this time? The same one as last time maybe? I've been out of the loop.

I think I'll be toying around with a Mexican Baseball League. I'm new to OOTP, and I downloaded the 9 version demo, and was working on that. My options seemed a little restricted, as I could not do too much to the schedule (I wanted to to do a current MLB format, but no interleague, plus some more kinks I wanted to try out).

Was it because of the demo version? Or maybe I should just wait and see if I can play around with version X soon...

Well you can create schedules without interleague play. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "MLB" format, but you can create a 162-game unbalanced schedule.

Ultimately, of course, the schedule is editable at a nuts-and-bolts game-for-game level. But, if you can't approximate what you'd like to do from the outset, that requires a lot of work.

Depending on the size of the league, you should be able to do this with some work. There are tons of movies that baseball figures into, not to mention being able to build a whole league just from the Universal Baseball Association, as has been mentioned. And a quick Google search for 'baseball in fiction' led me here.

Very easily. Play in Commissioner mode and go to the Free Agent screen. At the bottom you should see the Create Fictional Player button.

I am starting an alternative history where professional baseball starts with 2 8 teams leagues east of the Mississippi River in 1920. Hope to see it grow and evolve into something similar to baseball of today through expansion and development of minor league affiliates.

Interesting to see what happens when West Coast baseball comes into play. Also plan to start a league that rivals the current proleagues.

I could do that.

I am also going to add the old West Texas - New Mexico league. This is the league that in 1948 Bill Crues drove in a record 254 runs.

I think I will make each league unique. The Southern Association will be the best of the bunch, that is where everyone wants to play.

The Three I league will be more of a speed, defense and pitching league......small ball.

The West Texas-New Mexico league will be just as it was, a league with small ball parks and lots of scoring. Those West Texas winds will be blowing out!

I still may add a fourth league, maybe based in the Eastern part of the US.

One thing i need to figure out is how long should I make it before a player can become a free-agent. In the lower leagues I may make it 2 years but in the Southern Association make if more, 6 or so.

Betabaseball.com is a nice online fictional league that has imaginary nations and cities and player names approximately from English, French, Dutch, and German. Its uniqueness makes it interesting and it has accumulated many seasons over 5/6 years of real time.

---

My own desktop fictional leagues use replicas of the full major/minor leagues from years past. The 1952 league has the majors and about 40 minor leagues- about 340 teams with AAA , AA, A, B, C, D level minors. The Cardinals for instance have 15 minor league affiliates. The White Sox have 7. There are many independent teams scattered in leagues and several leagues with no teams with major affiliation. Some of this OOTP does not yet model as well as one might like.

I have about a dozen of these full setups from different eras but have only played a couple of them for lots of seasons. I don't evolve the leagues. 1952 keeps its settings for as many years as I play it. If I want a little different kind of play style I play my 1972 setup for instance, rather than change the teams and leagues each year.

All players are fictional, I am not doing historical replays.

I don't do much with moding year ethnicity percentages or graphics details or such. I do have a semiautomated process to create customized schedules so if I want something like a balanced round robin 112 game schedule for an 8 team league I get something better than comes with the game.

I pick a team, GM its whole minor league system and manage the major league team, play out every game. I have several self handicapping rules hoping the AI competitiveness improves.

Alternatively I may just be a manager, at the mercy of what the AI GM gives me. This will be more fun if OOTP gets its AI GM workig better. Trying now to manage a minor league affiliate is kind of a pain with way too much unrealistic player movement so I have to force the game to give me a major team, but I do let myself get fired and then pick a miserable team that might hire a failed major league manager.

OOTP provides a lot towards doing all this, but it is missing a lot that I hope will come along in future years. Financials and several other areas I didn't mention here don't really let me customize nearly as much as desired yet.

But overall this is about the best entertainment bargain I know. I play enough that at $30/year for the game my cost per hour is maybe 5 cents. Not bad.

It's been years since my West Virginia Baseball league, so perhaps I'll bring that back.
An English Counties league / Euro League / Fances league

As much as I always want to bring my fantasy, and prison death league, to life, I just don't have the energy. One day, I'm sure though

I'm in the process of setting up the World of Hockey for an OOTPX league.

I have a custom names and nations sets that reflect the "world of hockey", for example, Canada, US, and Russia are the dominant nations, with Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic just below that.

For my actual league structure, I have a custom NHL with an American and a Canadian league (10 teams each), using current and former NHL teams. AAA (AHL), AA (ECHL), A, and R below that. For feeders, I have three HS feeders authentically matching the CHL (WHL/OHL/QMJHL - although for the Q structure I had to take some liberties) and a US College feeder league with the biggest NCAA hockey teams.

I have the KHL (Russian based), SM-Liiga (Finland), Czech Extraliga, DEL (Germany), Elitserien (Sweden), Austria, and National League A (Swiss) as my international leagues. I've carefully configured the PCM's and salary bases to make them "minor" leagues to the NHL, but still open the possibility of some players moving from league to league.

Schedules are a little different, but they have to be. I have a custom 94 game NHL schedule, which is also used for the corresponding minors. Every other league schedule follows real life. All seasons begin June 1st. Playoffs are also authentic.
