Markus said somewhere that they need all the revenue that they can get, and did not mention growing the customer base, so it would seem logical for them to be setting their pricing schedule to maximize revenue. Exactly what that pricing schedule should be is a really good question and one that we don't have the sales or revenue data to properly address.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.
