Obdaker Supercard
Jan 25th 1934
Lincoln Palace, Lincoln, Obdaker 4000 fans (sellout) Opener: Anthony Lewis 12-0-0 (11) v Bill Peterson 12-3-0 (7) The knowledgeable Lincoln crowd really didn't enjoy this contest. Lewis hurt Peterson early and Peterson hardly threw a punch of note in the first 4 rounds. He did have a decent round in the 5th, but Lewis responded with his best round of the fight in the 6th. Both men tired noticeably and there wasn't a great deal of action in the latter rounds. Peterson did go down in the 11th, but more from tiredness than anything else. Anthony Lewis wins by unanimous decision (118-111, 117-111, 117-111) Support: Dave Hill 15-2-0 (13) v Ray Franklin 17-3-0 (12) A real slugfest, with both men loading up on hurtful punches and landing a fair few. After a quiet start Hill knocked down his opponent in the 3rd, but Franklin didn't panic and kept coming. Hill went down in the 8th and from then on in it was all Franklin with Hill going down twice in the 10th and again in the 11th. Ray Franklin wins by unanimous decision (115-108, 114-109, 116-107) Feature: Mike Shaw 12-3-0 (9) v Ed McGuire 9-4-0 (8) Shaw cut McGuire in the first round and it seemed to dishearten the older man. Shaw dominated much of the fight and the waiting targe of an already cut left eye drew more and more punches from Shaw, making a total mess of McGuire's face and forcing the referee to stop the fight. Mike Shaw wins by TKO at 2:38 of the 7th Main: Ed Simmons 13-0-0 (7) v Doug McKillop 14-1-0 (10) - For Simmons' OBA title The first few rounds were fairly quiet, but were probably in favour of the champion, as McKillop couldn't find a way to land any significant punches. McKillop had a few good moments in the middle rounds, but Simmons was always in charge and he made this show by landing a big combination in the 8th that floored his opponent. Then the unthinkable happened. McKillop loaded up on a body punch and it landed flush, just behind the left elbow of the champ, sending him to the canvas and ending his reign. Doug McKillop wins by KO at 1:55 of the 9th and is the new OBA champion Last edited by Craig Costello; 03-13-2009 at 11:32 AM. |

Fretlow Fight Night
Jan 28th 1934
Sugar Rooms, Unity, Fretlow 3500 fans (sellout) Opener: Cody Williams 6-0-0 (4) v Kurt Bowman 10-6-0 (10) Williams was in complete control in the opening rounds and Bowman went down in the third after a big combo. The crowd were shocked though in the 5th when Williams went down for the first time in his career. He came back strongly and forced Bowman down 3 times in the 8th with him staying down for good after the third knockdown. Cody Williams wins by KO at 2:53 of the 8th Support: Millard Merritt 9-1-2 (4) v Howard Sharpe 9-2-0 (8) This was a relly even contest with both men having high and low points. After a quick start the action faded towards the end as both men tired. Sharpe won the last round on two of the three judges cards to secure the draw. Draw (113-115, 116-112, 114-114) Feature: Ralph Ames 16-1-0 (7) v Matt Brewer 10-3-0 (10) The first round set the pattern for the rest of the fight with Brewer starting quickly and landing a few good shots before Ames completely took over the round and dominated his opponent from then on in. Ames was deducted a point for low blows, but he knocked down Brewer in the 11th and probably could have stopped it if he needed to. Ralph Ames wins by unanimous decision (118-109, 117-110, 118-108) Main: Larry Wright 15-1-0 (10) v Willie Horton 12-1-0 (7) Wright's heavy punching completely sapped all of the energy from Horton. By the 4th, Horton had a huge swelling over his left eye and looked completely disinterested. Wright knocked him down to start the 6th and a barrage of heavy punches forced the referee to stop the fight. Larry Wright wins by TKO at 2:47 of the 6th. |

Mourassi Star Attraction
Feb 25th 1934
Right Turn Hall, Kayter, Mourassi 6200 fans (sellout) Opener: David Hernandez 9-12-0 (7) v Jesus Martinez 5-10-0 (4) - retirement fight Hernandez was game enough and certainly didn't show any signs of wanting to retire, but his opponent was just too good and he went down a total of 6 times in the fight including twice in the 8th. Jesus Martinez wins by unanimous decision (118-104, 118-104, 117-106) Support: Jose Ruiz 7-0-0 (5) v Alfonso Hernandez 9-3-0 (8) The unbeaten Ruiz started tentatively, but he started geting to work in the 4th and a powerful combination knocked down Hernandez. From then on in it was all Ruiz, with Hernandez going down again in the 8th and 10th before the referee stopped the fight. Jose Ruiz wins by TKO at 2:28 of the 10th Feature: Juan Guzman 11-4-0 (6) v Ivan Acosta 12-1-0 (7) - MBA title tournament SF From the start neither man appeared to want to get too close to their opponent for fear of taking the fight-ending punch. As a result there was not a great deal of action. The only rounds that were obvious to score were the 7th and 10th, with Guzman winning both comfortably. Acosta appeared to be slightly out of shape and he struggled in the later rounds to do anything other than hold. Juan Guzman wins by unanimous decision (115-113, 117-111, 116-113) Main: Adrian Garza 12-0-0 (10) v Antonio Moreno 16-2-1 (9) - MBA title tournament SF In contrast to the first semi, this was a real dust up with both men landing hurtful punches on their opponent. Neither fighter had established any control, but at the start of the 4th a straight right from Moreno staggered Garza and then a left cross to the temple turned out the lights. Antonio Moreno wins by KO at 0:32 of the 4th Last edited by Craig Costello; 03-21-2009 at 09:36 AM. |

Lakanos Main Event
Feb 28th 1934
Sundown Stadium, Sundown, Lakanos 3550 fans (sellout) Opener: Fred Collins 8-2-0 (4) v Eric Miller 9-3-1 (4) Collins started strongly, but Miller came back into it and was ahead on one card and level on another after 6 rounds. The 7th was fairly quiet until the last 10 seconds when Collins produced a dazzling display of punching to finish the fight. Fred Collins wins by KO at the end of the 7th Support: Mack Barrett 13-1-1 (6) v Bryce Conrad 10-1-1 (6) Barrett caught Conrad cold late in the 2nd round and he dominated the early rounds of the fight after that. Conrad had some good moments later in the fight, but Barrett's punches eventually sapped all of his energy and he went down again in the 10th before going down for good in the 11th. Mack Barrett wins by KO at 2:59 of the 11th Feature: James McCormick 14-2-1 (9) v Ken Morgan 10-4-1 (6) Neither fighter made much of an impact, but McCormick was definitely the more impressive. Morgan appeared to be tiring badly, but McCormick damaged his hand with a punch in the 5th and he couldn't fight through the pain, meaning he had to pull out. Ken Morgan wins by TKO at 0:05 of the 7th Main: Chet Evans 15-1-0 (9) v Andre Griffith 13-2-0 (2) - for Evans LBA title Not wanting to let the judges make a make-up decision after their first fight, Evans came storming out at the start of the fight and dominated the opening rounds. The crowd went crazy in the 4th when Evans was rocked by a combo that knocked him to the canvas for a six-count. Griffith wasn't able to take advantage of the knockdown and if anything Evans had the better of the next few rounds. Neither man was able to control the later stages and the judges decision opens up the possibility of Evans v Griffith III. Chet Evans wins by split decision (114-113, 113-114, 115-112) and defends his LBA title for the 1st time |

Mourassi Ivan Acosta follwoed up his loss in the semi-final of the title tournament by being stopped in the 9th round by Ismael Ruiz. He is now no longer ranked in the top 10. Obdaker Supercard
Apr 25th 1934
Riverside Stadium, Prust, Obdaker 1874 fans Opener: John Hall 8-1-0 (7) v Stanton Hall 10-8-2 (2) The crowd really enjoyed Hall v Hall III. Both men had peviously enjoyed a stoppage victory over their opponent. It was John who started the brighter and it was no surprise to see Stanton down in the 5th, but the elder man responded well and caused a knockdown himself in the 6th. The second half of the fight was pretty even, with John's quick start being the decisive factor and even meaning that a deducted point for low blows had no effect on the outcome. John Hall wins by unanimous decision (114-111, 113-112, 113-112) Support: Jon Crow 12-3-1 (11) v Bernard Wooten 12-6-0 (10) Wooten's reputation as an excellent boxer with a glass jaw was only cemented in this fight. After a bright start he was knocked down in the 4th by a shot to the temple. Just as he was starting to dominate the fight again he went down two more times in the 10th. Even with all of the knockdowns it still came down to the last round, which Crow just claimed. Jon Crow wins by split decision (113-112, 112-113, 113-112) Feature: John Gamble 17-2-0 (13) v Ryan Horn 7-3-1 (4) Not much subtlety in this absolute slugfest as both men flailed away to great effect. Gamble had the edge in the early rounds, but he was hurt in the 6th and only just beat the count, only just managing to hold on for the rest of the round. His response was a crushing right in the 7th that dropped Horn and another knockdown in the 8th. Gamble absolutely owned the 10th with Horn going down 3 times, but somehow making it to the bell. The frenzied crowd got even more excited as Horn pulled a stunning punch from nowhere to drop Gamble again in the 11th, with the favourite again only rising to his feet with the count at 9. As the final round started Horn went all guns blazing for the knockout, but left himself wide open and suffered another three knockdowns. John Gamble wins by unanimous decision (114-104, 114-104, 114-104) Main: Mike Shaw 13-3-0 (10) v Maurice Thompson 13-1-0 (13) An unexpected domination from the younger man as Thompson went down in the 2nd and 4th with the referee stepping in to end the landslide later in the same round. Mike Shaw wins by TKO at 2:40 of the 4th |

Fretlow Fight Night
Apr 28th 1934
Nutlaw Centre, Hinge, Fretlow 7693 fans Opener: Jimmy Farr 12-3-0 (6) v Roger Bullard 9-6-0 (7) An absolute masterclass from the younger man as Farr won most rounds extremely comfortably with Bullard going down in the 5th and twice in the 8th. Jimmy Farr wins by unanimous decision (118-107, 120-105, 118-108) Support: Tim Miles 12-4-0 (6) v Charlie Martin 6-5-0 (6) In the early rounds Miles was clearly the better boxer, but every know and again would land a big shot that caused him trouble. As Miles tightened up his defence, he tightened his grip on the fight and knocked down Martin in the 10th. Martin's last chance proved to be enough as he landed one big punch to end the fight with Miles miles in front on all three cards. Charlie Martin wins by KO at 0:40 of the 12th Feature: Tim Davidson 12-1-1 (7) v Jarred Hutchinson 10-1-1 (3) After an even 1st round, Davidson took control and landed a strong combo that floored Hutchinson in the 2nd. Hutchinson fought on, but could never make any impact and he went down for good in the 6th after a barrage of strong punches. Tim Davidson wins by KO at 1:51 of the 6th Main: Peter Alford 15-0-0 (15) v Larry Wright 16-1-0 (11) - for Alford's FBA title After a quiet start the crowd were brought to life as Wright dropped Alford for the 4th time in his career in the last 10 seconds. Following that though, the champ was utterly dominant and didn't lose a round on any card as he moved into overdrive. The pressure finally told as Wright went down and didn't get back up in the 8th. Peter Alford wins by KO at 2:00 of the 8th and defends his FBA title for the 3rd time |

Mourassi Star Attraction
May 25th 1934
Madelaine Centre, Queen City, Mourassi 8000 fans (sellout) Opener: Mario Colomo 12-3-1 (1) v Claudio Guerrero 13-2-1 (3) This was a really nice contest to watch with neither man really able to hurt their opponent too much. Colomo caused a cut over the left of Guerrero in the 6th with a nice jab and Guerrero was also cut over the right eye when the fighters clashed heads in the 7th. The referee eventually called the fight off in the 10th as both cuts pumped blood into Guerrero's eyes and somewhat controversially decided to go to the judges scorecard, but Colomo still got the win. Mario Colomo wins by technical split decision (86-85, 85-86, 87-84) Support: Jorge Hernandez 13-5-0 (10) v Alfonso Hernandez 9-4-0 (8) The first punch of the fight saw Alfonso go down and even though he got up, Jorge never stopped the barrage and Alfonso didn't get up the next time he went down. Jorge Hernandez wins by KO at 2:28 of the 1st Feature: Hector Flores 14-4-0 (8) v Rodrigo Davila 12-3-1 (10) This was a particularly violent fight with both men's faces ending up a mess of bruises and swelling. Davila stunned Flores by knocking him down in both the 1st and the 2nd and even though Flores had some good moments he was never able to take control. Flores went down one more time in the 11th to seal his fate. Rodrigo Davila wins by unanimous decision (115-110, 115-110, 116-110) Main: Juan Guzman 12-4-0 (6) v Antonio Moreno 17-2-1 (10) - MBA title tournament final, for vacant MBA title Moreno won the previous contest between the two in March 1933, but it was Guzman who started the stronger and less nervous and just kept going. He was never really able to hurt Moreno, but he did cause some nasty swelling and cuts that definitely affected his opponents vision later in the fight. There can be no doubting that Guzman deserves to be the first ever Mourassi champ. Juan Guzman wins by unanimous decision (118-111, 119-110, 119-111) and wins the MBA title |

Lakanos Main Event
May 28th 1934
White City Arena, White City, Lakanos 4787 fans Opener: Joe Woods 9-3-1 (6) v Ryan Thompson 12-4-0 (4) Joe Woods suffered a cut in the second round from an accidental headbutt that eventually stopped the fight in the 7th. He dominated the 3rd and 4th rounds with Thompson going down in both. Joe Woods wins by technical unanimous decision (57-55, 57-55, 58-54) Support: Mark Williamson 12-3-0 (2) v Gunner West 13-4-2 (12) Williamson is a real boxing artist and put togehter some beautiful patches of action. His lack of punching power migh tprevent him from being a real top talent and it nearly cost him this fight, as he wasn't able to put away West who gave himself hope by knocking down Williamson in the 10th. His late spurt wasn't enough though. Mark Williamson wins by unanimous decision (115-113, 116-111, 114-113) Feature: Charles Haney 12-3-0 (10) v Clint Johnson 12-5-1 (8) Haney dominated the 1st completely and after a couple of lazy rounds he started again in the 4th. He had knocked down Johnson 4 times by the time the referee stopped the fight. Charles Haney wins by TKO at 2:01 of the 11th Main: Charles Martin 12-3-0 (10) v Mack Barrett 14-1-1 (7) Martin started the quicker, but Barrett came back quickly and cut Martin with a hook in the 3rd that eventually caused the referee to stop the fight. Barrett was ahead on 2 of the scorecards at the time. Mack Barrett wins by TKO at 1:03 of the 7th |
