Great start to the Giants season. I know how hard it can be trying to dump bad contracts. Good luck keeping up with the early success.

Thanks. I'm really surprised at how well my team has played so far. I don't see them as a first place team but the pitching and offense have just clicked to this point. Renteria is the last bad contract (though I like the signing in real life). His numbers are down and it is a 2 year deal. Not sure if I will be able to do anything there. But first place, it's early, but who am I to complain.

Brian Anderson Shines in Giant Debut. Giants Win Again
San Francisco Chronicle
4-25-2009

I'm beginning to think the Giants hold a grudge against Dave Roberts. This is to bad because he is a a class guy. Or, perhaps they just know how to play matchups. Brian Anderson, just called up got the start over Roberts, the veteran, and what does he do, he goes 2-3 with a HR, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. The Giants win 10-6. Cain struggled again giving up 6 in 5, but fortunately the Giants had already scored 7 and Cain got the win. Buck hit his third triple, and Sandoval and Renteria each had three hits.

I'm definitely going to follow this dynasty. Interesting trade with the Mariners. How is Beltre working out so far? (Also, where'd Triunfel come from? Was he part of that deal?)

Awesome. I'm glad you are following it. Yeah, Triunfel was a part of the deal. I don't know how the reporter missed that part. He generally does a good job.

Beltre has played flawless 3B so far. Most importantly, he is hitting cleanup, allowing me to move the catcher (Molina and Max Ramirez are splitting time) to 5th, and Sandoval to 6th. Sandoval really struggled when hitting 3rd or 5th, and has excelled hitting in the 6th spot. I still see Sandoval moving to a run producing spot in the order but not yet.

Beltre's numbers have been mixed. He has played 9 games and is only hitting .222. He has hit 3 HR's and tallied 8 RBI's, which in 9 games is great. I would like to see the average up, but I desperatley need the power, and he is a type A free agent. About that, do I have to offer him arbitration to get the draft pick compensation? I see that is a selling point of ootp 10 and so wondered if it is not included in this version.

Anyway, thanks for your interest, and here's to continued Giant success.

Giants Win in 10! Move to 14-4
San Francisco Chronicle
4-26-2009

The Giants trailed 2-0 in the 8th until Travis Buck hit a sac fly and Beltre hit an RBI single to tie the game. Sandoval hit a 3 Run HR in the top of the 10th. Cardianls got one back in the bottom of the 10th with the final score 5-3. Taschner got the win and Romo got the save. Wilson is not yet pitching in back to back games, a bit surprising considering his conditioning. The Giants now sport an amazing 3.5 game lead over the Diamondbacks, along with the best record in the league!

You don't have to offer arbitration. You will just get the pick as long as he's a Type A free agent at the end of the year. (They change pretty drastically based upon performance in season.) I'm really looking forward to seeing this feature beefed up in OOTP10 too. That's one of the reasons I preoredered a copy.

Cardinals swept, Sanchez CG Shut Out, Organization Report
San Francisco Chronicle
4-27-2009

Jonathan Sanchez pitched a brilliant complete game shutout, giving up 3 singles, 1 walk, and struck out 8. Beltre hit a 3 run shot in the ninth for the only runs in the game. Travis Buck got no hits, ending his streak at 16 games with a base hit.

This Monday I thought I would look at the big league squad.

Offense

Travis Buck and Kevin Frandsen have been the offensive MVP's to date. Frandsen leads the team in RBI's with 15, and Buck is slugging .757 with an OPS of 1.268.

Schierholtz, Roberts, and Aurilia are all struggling batting below the Mendoza line. Molina is hitting only .211 with a slugging of .289 and 2 RBI's.

Renteria struggled ealry but has really turned it around. Borbon was a nice surprise before being sent to the disabled list. Max Ramirez and Fred Lewis have also been exceeding expectations early on in the season.

Pitching

Not much to say here. Cain has struggled, Johnson has been mediocre, Romo has been fine in relief. Otherwise lights out. Lincecum and Cain are striking out over 10 batters/9 innings. Howry and Affeldt are yet to give up a run, and Sanchez, Misch, Wilson, and Lincecum have an ERA under 2.

Fielding

No Giant has made multiple errors this season.

Overall

Strong pitching, overachieving offense, and solid defense have led the Giants to a remarkable 15-4 start. If the pitching and defense can hold up, the Giants just might keep winning, even if the offense comes back to where many predicted it would. Dick Fieldman

Giants Win 7th in a Row, Beat Division Rival D-Backs
San Francisco Chronicle
4-28-2009

The Giants win again as Pat Misch out dueled Brandon Webb 3-2. Misch hit a wall in the 7th, giving up his second run of the game, and leaving with no outs and runners on teh corner. Taschner came in and struck out the side for a big hold. 16-4 on the year. Wow! Giants look to complete the two game sweep tonight.

Completely Ridiculous
San Francisco Chronicle
4-29-2009

Lincecum goes to 5-0 as he pitches 8 innings giving up 2 runs, both on solo home runs. Oh, and he struck out 13. So the Diamondbacks scored 2, the Giants...17!. Too much offense to cover so I'll just point out Max Ramirez. 5-5, a double, 2 HR's, 7 RBI's and 4 runs scored. How long can Molina even split time at this point. And does this cause reason to shift Posey to SS. No word on any of this yet from the Giants.

Cain Continues to Struggle, Giants Lose
San Francisco Chronicle
4-30-2009

Cain gave up 6 runs but did pitch into the 8th inning, taking the loss to the Padres. Adrian Gonzalez hit for the cycle, and the Giants win streak ends at 8. Tonight ends the 2 game series with the Padres.

Giants Swept in 2 Game Series
San Francisco Chronicle
5-1-2009

Randy Johnson was charged with 6 runs, 2 of them were allowed to score off a double given up by Noah Lowry. Travis Buck and Dave Roberts each got three hits, but even though the Giants out hit the Padres 12-9, they lose the game by a final 6-3. Three game home set with Reds coming up.

Thanks to the people who were following this. I have decided to start with the updated rosters so that I can have some of the newly acquired recently discovered Giant prospects. Since I find my time on the computer limited I don't think I will be providing updates so I can focus on playing the league. To anyone who was enjoying following this I apologize.
