I don't think we're in any danger, the franchise hasn't been abandoned. I'd chalk it up to vacation.

Opening Day and the playoffs usually ignite public interest in baseball, and therefore the game. I think that we're just in a lull right now.

That is undoubtedly true, but it would be nice if someone (Andreas?) updated the board with a quick status on the game and the team. We are certainly a spoiled bunch though, used to such an active programmer and development team...

This makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately a lot of those issues are carried over from previous versions.

OK, I will admit that there are definite AI issues in the sim that need to be fixed and I also admit there should be someone (have no idea what happened to Battists) from the team answering these questions or at least giving us updates on what is happening with the sim but at the same time, as I stated earlier, there are a lot of questions asked on here that already have answers. Maybe not the answers we want to hear, but answers just the same.
This time of year is end of summer and beginning of the school year, so it is a very busy time elsewhere in ones life so I would expect there to be less developer input right now. I do think though that by the end of this month that some of these legit questions should be addressed by the sim team.

I also sim historically and agree that it is almost impossible to do because of the AI. I would certainly like the team to address this issue first and foremost. If it is impossible to fix then I wish they would let us know that. If they are working on fixing that, I wish they would tell us. I do think this issue is a major one and should be addressed first.

Anyway, for the most part I agree with everyone here. What I hate to see is the constant bombardment of the same questions that have already been addressed. Some people are just too lazy to search the board. That's all I was trying to suggest in my last post.

On the one hand, I can sympathize with OOTP principals not wishing to get involved in most threads, as the questions are usually minor and repetitive. It must get tiresome after a while answering the same stuff over and over again.

On the other hand, I would not run my business in this manner. Keeping the conversations flowing on these boards, and answering the questions from new customers in particular, can only be good for their business.

The same thing happened last fall. The boards got very quiet, naturally, but some desperate requests for information that only the developers could answer went unaddressed.

Among those was the lefty-righty split ratings merge problem that persisted through the end of the OOTP 2007/8 patch process (I promise: This is the last time that I will mention it.) To have that game-wrecking problem fester for weeks as I and a few others battled to keep the thread afloat, and then to be ignored when the bosses did return to the boards until the issue became almost embarrassing - that was tough to take.

Now, though, I am digging their product again so I don't care how long a vacation they take. I just marvel at them leaving it to uninformed blowhards like me to answer (and thereby cultivate) their new customers.

I don't think they need a full-time, or even a part-time, marketing guy, but what do I know. What I would advise them is not to go so long being away from the action here.

I'm not talking daily, answering question after question, but some interaction year-round is in order - an hour every week or two perhaps. Especially when some important topic like "Anymore Patches Planned?" comes up in the form of a thread that has (to date) 50 replies and over 1,300 views.

I'm hoping Markus will make the corrections to the Hard-Coded PBP that several Betas worked so hard on. All the work has been done. All that is left is data entry, which I would think a person of his ability, knowledge and intelligence could handle. You are right of course. None of us though knows what is going on with any of the staff here and that is making it difficult not to question the reasons why. However, I am sure that the team, or Marcus in particular doesn't want to totally ignore the future of the sim by not updating it regularly. That would be a ridiculous thing for him to do as creator. I certainly don't think Marcus is a stupid man. At least he hasn't shown to be so far. The answers will come. I think we should just be a little more patient.

And 1998 Yankees, you certainly are one of the most helpful here on the board, and I for one thank you for that. It could be that the powers that be are reading this forum on a daily basis and see that you are answering a lot of questions on here for them and therefore they don't feel the need to repeat the answers you are giving. I don't know if that is true or not but it certainly is possible. But that doesn't mean you should stop helping here. I think you are doing an excellent job here with your answers to many questions about the sim. And there are others here as well. Anyway, keep it up and I thank you for your taking the time to answer all of the questions that you do. Even though I hate the Yankees (Red Sox fan since the fifties), I won't hold that against you. Again thanks for your help here on the boards.
