Things about this trade that will amuse me greatly:
a.) watching Jason Bay turn into a monster in Fenway park b.) watching Manny's counting stats take a nosedive in Dodger Stadium c.) watching the Pirates completely give up any chance of being competitive in the next 5 years d.) watching baseballs roll to the Dodger stadium wall Edit: in regards to c, someone should figure out the outfield with the best WARP3 in baseball this year, because I have a serious suspicion it may have been the Pirates prior to the last few weeks

This thing about the Dodgers outfield being overcrowded is a bunch of garbage.
First of all, there are only 5 outfielders currently on the Dodgers roster and two of them are extremely lousy. If you remember second grade math, you will be informed that this means the Dodgers have three usable outfielders. That, coincidentally, is exactly the number of outfielders you require to play a game. Secondly, if you have been following the Dodgers at all this season, then you know their most desperate problem has been lacking a big bat that can put one over the fences. There was no legitimate home run hitter on the entire roster all year long. The Dodgers are a fine baseball team in that they have speed, they have players that can get on base, they have worthwhile defense, they have the best pitching in the entire National League. On top of that, they have a reasonable level of depth. They can afford to give up players. The fact is, this team can't put the ball over the fence. By getting Manny, they've made an enormous stride in making themselves a World Series contender all in one fell swoop. And at practically no cost. Of course this has been a fantastic trade. |
