and because its in the middle of nowhere theres a 30 mile or so stretch where you can only get 3 stations (all AM). All 3 either are carrying the game, have a sports talk show (where they do nothing but talk about the Braves and the Falcons) or if its Friday night HIGH SCHOOL football games!!!!

I know what you mean, i just moved to north carolina from Michigan and all i ever hear on the sports channels is high school football and college football. It would be ok if the college football was someone good, but all they ever talk about it Duke and North Carolina State.

Part A of thread: Kevin Brown
We only say overpaid because of the injuries. Randy Johnson makes the same money and I have never heard anyone say he is overpaid (as compared to other MLB salaries, of course). Back when both signed with their new clubs (1999?) which one would you have thought would have had all of the injury problems? Part B of thread: Montreal Expos I was in Montreal July 29 - August 2 to catch a 3-game series with the D-Backs. There were about 10,000 in attendance each night (D-Backs are 2nd to NYA in away attendance). Vlad won the 1st and 3rd games with walkoff homers.... was pretty unbelievable. From the looks of it, Molson is keeping the team in Montreal through an almost single-handed sponsorship. Great city, great low-payroll team, great fans...and the stadium is not as bad as advertised. The best part, though, has to be Youppi! He's the best mascot in the majors.

I just want to clear something up real quick that i realized i didnt say in my other post. I have been following baseball since about 1986 and DO NOT want to see the Expos contracted or moved. I hate expansion, contraction, and relocation. In my opinion though, the Expos could make a much better case for themselves if they made the team a finacial winner. What would MLB be able to do if Montreal had sold out a few games this year? There is no way that MLB could move or contract a team that makes money. While I say this, please understand me Expos fan, I feel your pain. I have lived in Detroit just about my entire life. I watched the good Sparky Anderson/Tom Monahan teams of the eighties. I enjoyed Cecil Fielder hitting 51 in 1990. Mike Illich has driven this team into the ground. He is a hell of a hockey (Red Wings) owner, but doesnt know crap about baseball. Yes, the Tigers have a new stadium, but no team to put into it. In 1999 everyone in Michigan was talking about Comerica Park and how it would bring the fans back. The new stadium did bring the fans back for the first 2 or 3 years, but they are tired once again of the losing. The fans in Detroit will support a decent team. Just take a look at the attendance for the Detroit Lions. I just know that if i heard that there was a possibility of the Tigers being removed from Detroit, i would go buy a season ticket. If it was up to me, I would contract Tampa Bay and Florida (just for what they did in 97). I wish Montreal good luck, i hope it works out for you.

Yes, but for every 4 Expos fans there are at least 38 Yankee fans.

There's a reason for that! Since the Expos have no TV contract, the Expos fans have virtually no games to watch, so they all hang out here.

Let me reiterate: Dodgers SUCK!!!! Brown needs to retire. He's done, a non-factor, he's ineffective.

Giants fans know precious few things to say other than the ignorant "Beat L.A." chant, "Dodgers Suck", and "I know it's been 50 years since our team won a World Series but as long as we finished ahead of the Dodgers this year, our season is a success!"

The Expos could really be a great team in a year or two if they keep the better players they've got now. I'm starting to consider myself a fan (originally a CWS fan, but i find homers irritating penis-extension type things, and apparently that's the only thing their management values.. Marginal D'Backs fan, but only due to my love for Randy), and i'd find another sport if they left Montreal for any reason.
As for fan interest, i don't know the specifics of the Montreal situation, but speaking as a Scottish rugby fan i'm certain that if people felt the team could contend (not necessarily reach the playoffs, but at least not get blown out every other game), fans would turn out to the games. |
