Steve
I'd be happy to try this tonight and I'll report back on my findings sometime tomorrow. Glad I can be of some help.

More info

I should have mentioned in my posts that I have been trying to import 1968. I didn't try other years. But, I will give other years a try on my machine too and report back. It looks like the specs on my machine are similar to Cardinal Rules'.

I did further testing last night and was able to get the full import from Lahman for 1971-1975, and was able to at least get the imports started for 1976-1978. I had to kill these latter imports partway through because I didn't have the time to let the import complete, but the progress after 45 minutes on each was into the double digit % complete which would seem to indicate the same general time to import that I was seeing on the other 1970's imports. So it would now seem that 1979 is the first year I encounter the problem.

I did not have a chance to try 1968 which solarkev indicated was his problem year, nor did I have time to re-try 1979 or 1980, but if I have some time tonight or tomorrow I will try these years.

Re-tried 1979 and was actually able to get it to import players up to 4% but then didn't go any further for the next 2 hours and I had to kill the process. Re-tried 1980 and it didn't ever get past 0% for 2 hours.

Anyone have any other thoughts on this? This is a feature I would really like to use, but so far doesn't look like it will work for me with later years.

Dola - I read in another post where either Marc or one of the mods indicated the game was tested on many levels of machines to ensure it would run at the minimum advertised specs. If that's the case, would someone that is a tester with a lower spec machine be able to test these specific scenarios?

Strangely, my 18 month old desktop runs sims extremely slow. So I'm mainly playing the game on my 3 year old laptop, which is way faster. BUT, when importing history, it is ridiculously slow. To get to 1977, it took 12 hours!

EDIT to say that this is with Lahman, and I got an "insufficient memory" error in the middle of it, but it kept chugging through until it finished.

So I guess based on what I see both from my tests as well as the input of others here, I would just like someone - developer or other SI team member - to either confirm this is what I should be seeing and there's nothing to be fixed here, or that this ISN'T what should happen and someone will look into this further to determine if/how it can be fixed.

Fair enough?

I've tried it 3 or 4 times when I first got the game and it froze up every time for me. I tried to import up to 1970 and never worked. I was pretty frustrated with that from the get go, so I just simmed from 1901 to 1970...next best thing. It would be nice if I could just import all the real history though.

Thanks everyone for your hard work in getting us information about this issue. As you can tell, we're having a very hard time narrowing down this issue, which makes it a very difficult issue to fix.

However, I have logged it as TT # 3473, and we'll see what Markus can do about it.

Thanks very much!

Steve

Just FYI, Markus has indicated that he has fixed this problem in the next patch. However, we haven't had an opportunity to test this yet. Cross your fingers.

Cautiously cool - but cool nevertheless!

It took me about 40 hours to import with Gambo and the same season with lahman took about 10 minutes.
