I'd like to see a rematch of the 1995 series. Now that the Braves suck, I think we might be able to beat them this time.

Yep, still being one of the elite hitters in the game is certainly "mostly respectable."

Wouldn't that be a big reason to NOT want another steroid abuser on the team?

I hope he plays a week for every team, so everyone can share in the misery I've had of having him on my team.

Misery? Sure, you say this now. Not during his 73 homer season.

Was the 73 HR season fun? Yeah, but Bonds has never been my favorite Giant, and I can't think of when he was even in the top-3 except maybe that year.

He's was like a guilty pleasure TV show before the roids scandal hit. Was he fun to watch? In a way yeah, but you aren't proud of it since he's such an ass.

I just pray that the Giants don't bring him back, I'd rather watch them lose 100 than have him back.

Is Giambi one of the elite hitters in the game today? Because their stats match up pretty closely:

Avg -- Giambi - .253, Bonds .270
OBP -- Giambi - .413 (12 IBB), Bonds .454 (38 IBB)
SLG -- Giambi - .558, Bonds .545

I stuck with averages/pcts(other than IBB to put the OBP disparity into perspective) since Bonds had about 100 ABs less then Giambi this year, so other stat comparisons didn't make sense to me. I don't see anything in either stat line which makes them an "elite hitter" any longer. Above average, sure, but not elite.

As for where he ends up, hopefully retired. However, if we're still stuck with him next year, anywhere but the Yankees. Staying with SF would be fine by me.

Their power and ability to get on base made both of them among the best. I'm sure there's a point where batting average would limit a hitter to being merely above average. Neither of these fellas was anywhere near there. Both were much more productive than Robinson Cano.

You were miserable to have Bonds?! You should've been miserable over a bunch of the other old bums the Giants consistently trotted out there.

Oh, the 2004-on Giants made me miserable too. I was considerably less miserable when we actually had a good team on the whole.

Saying, "If it weren't for injuries..." is, well kind of the point at his age. It's part of the process of the body breaking down. And this "mostly respectable," for one of the great hitters of all-time is also a big indicator. He's at the end, and his numbers next year we'll almost certainly be worse than this year and he's also very likely to spend some time on the DL, wherever that may be. Ruth and Aaron both went through the same thing at the end. So did Mantle, Mays, and Robinson. Just a matter of how stubborn and how pricey the contract will be for him to comeback. Certainly not because he's going to carry someone to the title.

If the DH didn't exist, Barry would already have the career homerun mark. By 1.

It's back to SF or Anaheim.
So if he won't play the outfield, where would he play in in San Francisco?
