IMO Mogul has always been kind of a joke of a game and I d/l the demo this year ONLY because OOTP was released so late. I ended up purchasing and playing and enjoying the game, there were quite a few cool things in there.
If comparing this years mogul to all years past this was far and away the best mogul game I have ever played. Having said all that mogul is child's play compared to even OOTP3 - it has its' place but by no means would mogul ever capture my time and attention the way OOTP has in the past.

But the manual is small!!! And hot dog prices are realistic! And it knows when the Baltimore Orioles turn into the New York Highlanders so it'll change that for you in your 1902 league with a .320 association-wide batting average! Honestly, the "manual is too big" complaint is just something I can't see. For one thing, these games tend to be, if anything, undersupported by documentation. This manual is a throwback to the days of Falcon 2.0. For another, nobody is saying that you have to read the Game Guide. It's a reference. That means you can leave it on your (virtual) shelf if you want. |

Oh how much I wish the right-click->previous page feature in 6.5 is brought back! (Just like when you're surfing using IE/Modzilla/AOL Explorer) And when I say previous page I mean REALLY previous page, as some pages can't be returned using the RECENT folder.
And..guys, Almanac feature is moved to History page. It's still there, with a different look. However, the Milestone Watch is gone. The SINGLE GAME RECORDS is gone too! (How can they miss that?) You can see the All-time leaders, but only the 1st place in every category. I'd like to see the Top 10 or Top 20 please. |

I don't think the single-game leaders or the milestone watch made it into this version.

It's very disappointing to see your favorite pitcher fanning 23 or your cleanup man getting 15 RBIs and not recorded in a section. |

Oh, and the Projected Numbers aren't there too. 6.5 has it, but in 2006 it's missing. Even ESPN player stats have projected season numbers.

The one problem with PS I just hate is that there are no Sept call-ups, ect. edit: so things missing from OOTP6.5 are; *Single-Game records *Rookie Records *Milestones *Projected Stats *7-Day lineups *Clear Rookie records option (I loved this option) *Clear Career stats option *Shop Player option (another great feature - along as the AI was doing it's part) OOTPB6.5 was heading the right direction. If Markus would have just added the new almanac (with more leaderboards such as post-season leaderboards), manager records, the "SION" webcast, full minor leagues, & improved AI then I would be sitting here much happier I think. Having said that, however, I do like all the extra statistics that Markus did implement. I love that part. I love the fact I can find out how a hitter does on an -02 count vs a left handed pitcher in August. I love that. Last edited by Kyros; 06-12-2006 at 04:13 PM. |

On "Shop Player," I liked it, but can understand and accept the reasons why it was left out.

I just started a game in 1902 in Mogul and simmed the season: AL simmed batting average: .255 (real-life 1902 AL: .275) NL simmed batting average: .259 (real-life 1902 NL: .260) The AL looks real bad until you realize in real-life the 1903 AL hit .255 and in 1904 it dropped to .244. There's stuff to pick on with Mogul like the lack of an almanac and I read it used to have problems with deadball sims. But it doesnt anymore as far as I see. The deadball numbers for power, speed etc. are very good imho and without changing the Simulation Settings. |

Back to 6.5
Well, I have tried the demo and for my life I just can't get into OOTP2006. As a historical simmer who likes to play GM this version is just too tedious for my taste. Tried Mogul, tried Puresim, and there is no game that compares to OOTP 6.5 for me. For my style of play, it fit the bill perfectly. I wouldn't dare tell anyone else how they should feel as some people around here seem to try to do at times, but for me the demo will be all until major changes are made, if they ever are. This game is too much like work, which is not what I look for in a game. I liked being able to track my guys through the minors to see who might be over/under achievers. Now, they sit on a reserve roster because I don't want fictional players added to my historical replay. I could go on and on but I won't. I've been around since OOTP 1999 and the series has caused many other games on my computer to go unplayed. That's not the case with this one. To those of you who enjoy the game as it is, I am happy for you. But as for me, and I fear many others, it's back to 6.5 were I belong. I'll come around the forums and hope to see changes that will bring me back to this game, but I'm afraid the series is over for me.

If you don't want fictional players added to your historical replay, play without minor leagues. It's a very easy fix. Actually, it's not even a fix at all. It's a design decision.
