One of the units I used to supervise used Macs (now they use PC's). You couldn't give me a Mac.

Apple's share of the worldwide PC market, 1996: 4.6 percent

Apple's share of the worldwide PC market, 2005: 2.2 percent

Can you say "doomed and on its way out"? Of course you can.

Market share data from Mercury News at:

Market share is pretty irrelevant without context. There are a lot more computers out there now than in 1996. So you can be pretty sure that 2.2% is a higher total number than the 4.6% from 1996. Apple is a long ways from being 'doomed and on it's way out.'

That, and people have been claiming Apple is "doomed and on it's way out" for a loooooong time.

Don't forget, too, that Apple pretty much owns the DAP market with the iPod. There are also plenty of reports of the iPod Phone...

I would agree that Apple is not on the way out as far as PCs go, but there is absolutely no way to glorify a 2.2% market share no matter how you spin it.

I wasn't trying to glorify it, only to point out that they're a long ways from being a dead company.

And their share of the PC market just keeps on declining as time goes by.
