Petey's first start of the year is on ESPN!!
The only time you ever see me rooting for NY teams in sports is one out of every 5 Mets games. |

Luis, are you saying the Mets game is on ESPN? If so, I'm REALLY pissed. My cable company has not negotiated a deal with SNY and still I'm BLACKED FREAKING OUT of the game on ESPN as well.

Chippy win for the Mets. Like lgkeeper, I had gamecast only for the game. I'll have to get a radio in the living room until this SNY mess gets straightened out.
Pedro plunks Guillen a couple of times and evidently stares him down after the 2nd one. Mets pull away late for a 10-5 win. Pedro goes 6 and gives up 5 runs but gets the vic. Florida next. I think the April schedule favors the Mets and I predicted that they'll play in excess of .600 ball this month. Spanking FLA after winning the Wash series would be a step in the right direction. |

What happened in that game? I watched it but I am sick so I dozed off several times. I saw there was a little brouhaha regarding Martinez plunking somebody and they were pissed and had to be held back by Lo Duca. Whatever came of that?

Absolutely bizarre game. Pedro obviously doesn't have his stuff yet. 7 spring innings, this new shoe, just going to take some time. He gave up the big shot to Johnson, hit 3 guys. None were intentional by appearances, but Guillen was hit 3 times in 3 games. I can understand him being a bit PO'ed.
Mets bats look good, Sanchez solid in relief. Strange thing that bears a bit of following perhaps. Mets up 6-5. Mets have one on, and Beltran hammers a big 2-run shot. It's his first hit of the year, and the fans have been on him since his first AB of the year. Fans cheer rabidly, begging for a curtain call. Beltran will NOT go out there. Hard to get inside a guy's head, but just judging from the look on his face, it looked like a big "F-U" from his end. After about 5 pitches to Delgado and the Mets fans still chanting for Beltran to come out, Julio Franco goes over to him on the bench and basically tells him he needs to go out there and acknowledge their support. He briefly goes up the steps, does a quick wave, and sits back down. Beltran has always come off as a really humble guy, so I suppose this could be a matter of him not really wanting to show anybody up or anything. But from how he looked, it seems he's sick and tired of being booed and was basically saying the hell with the crowd at that point. Understandable to a degree, but a VERY dangerous game for him to try and play in NY. He'll get chewed up in a heartbeat if he pulls that again. When the crowd shows it's eager to embrace you, you let them. GH |

People have given Beltran a pretty hard time about last year, deservedly so. I'm sure he is quite tired of the negative reaction and constant talk about him having to prove himself this year. Hopefully that was just a lapse for him and not the beginning of a rift with the fans.

Still cracks me up how he has the big bat when Pedro is on the mound.

Another good effort tonight in a 9-3 win over the Marlins. Trachsel looked solid and the offense clicked again. Xavier Nady continues to impress with a couple more hits. Wright hit a 470-foot bomb, and Reyes homered as well.
Certainly way too soon to tell, but Reyes seems to be making a real effort to be more patient. He's seeing more pitches per at bat, something Rickey Henderson worked with him on during the spring. Learning patience is hard, but not impossible. If Reyes develops some, it's a huge, huge asset. That we don't have better than Jorge Julio and Darren Oliver to put in our middle relief, though, concerns me a bit. Because Julio is teh suck. GH |
