And if the Seahawks kicker does his job, or if the Seahawks defense stops the Steelers before they get 3rd and goal from the two, or if they stop Big Ben in the backfield on that play, or if Jackson doesn't push off, or if that tackle doesn't get beaten on the edge that leads the refs to call him because he's next to the defender while his hand is across the defender's shoulder, or if Alexander makes a big run, or if the Seattle defense doesn't give up a SEVENTY FIVE yard run to Willie Parker, or if their punter pins the ball inside the 20 better, or if their return man doesn't let the ball bounce down to the 2, or if they can stop the Steelers offense with 6 minutes left in the game, or if...

First off.....very very good game, could have gone either way at a number of points, but it didnt'....

Congrats to Pittsburgh, clearly deserved!

Sure there were a few points throught the game that calls could have gone either way, but that's just like any game.

Pittsburgh deserved the win, unfortuntately, and deserved everthing they got.

A shame for us Seahawks fans up here n the Pacifice NorthWest, but we were outplayed!

A great game to watch, again, congrats to the Steelers

I just wanted to quote this. The officiating was not that terrible. That was pass interference on Jackson -- he put his arm out and pushed off. It was clear, and right in front of a ref. I like DJ, he went to Florida, and I had no rooting interest in the game. When I first saw the holding play, I thought it was a holding and was looking for the flag. The Hasselbeck tackle was a bad call, the only really bad call of the night. The others were merely close calls that didn't go Seattle's way. Tough. In the end, they didn't do enough to win.

in the indy game the steelers had all the calls go against them and they over came those bad calls, in the super bowl seattle didn't make the plays to overcome some of the questianable calls that went against them.

No, they didn't, but if a few breaks go their way, they probably win the game. Which is quite a bit more than most professional analysts were expecting. I think despite losing, Seattle showed they could compete for the title, despite being 'soft' and getting lucky to get into the playoffs and all the other trash that was being thrown out there.

Well sure they deserved to be there. But all I've heard today is 1) Jerome Bettis!!!!1111 and 2) Refs sukd, killed seehox. There was a lot more to that game. Seattle still could have won even with the calls if a few more things had gone their way, like Jerramy Stevens showing up. But they didn't play well enough to win. They could have, because they were a good enough team, but they didn't. Refs' calls or no.

And there was only one bad call. Anyone complaining about the refs either a) are upset the team they were rooting for lost or 2) don't understand the rules of football that well.

Yeah, and I'm beginning to think the talking heads are only mentioning it over and over and over and over and over because the game was poorly played so there's no much else there to talk about, and because it's generating enough controversy to keep people listening. They can't even really talk about Bettis that much because that angle has already been beaten into the ground and he didn't do much. So they're trying to fill their time.

1. The pass interferance on Jackson.

3. The holding call.
4. The Hasselbeck penalty (after he threw a clean interception, mind you).
5. The delay of game that probably should've been a timeout.
I'm not a fan of either team, all I cared about were my pool #'s

#1. To anyone who is not a Seattle fan, it was clearly offensive pass interference. You cannot stiff arm the defender until the ball gets to you.

#2. The Rothlisberger TD looked like a TD to me. As long as the ball crosses the front portion of that white stripe, it's a TD. It looked like it crossed while he was in the air. From that point on, it doesn't matter where he lands.

#3. The holding call was a terrible call.

#4. No blocking beneath the waste on the return is the rule. Doesn't matter if you are trying to make a tackle. If you take out a guy lead blocking in the process, it's a penalty. That is the reason the rule is there. So people don't dive at the legs of the lead blockers in order to get to the ball carrier.

In my opinion Seattle out played Pitt. It was their mistakes, penalties (rightfully enforced, except one) and missed opportunities that cost them the game. But I do give Pitt credit for making some big plays when it counted.

I am not blaming the refs, but Seattle had two good returns called back on penalties and they had another holding call on their first or second drive on a pass to Engram (I think) that would have put them first and ten from the 25.

Seattle must really be kicking themselves though, they had a great chance to win this game - Pittsburgh really didn't play their best game.

Numerous dropped passes, terrible clock management, bad penalties and failing to stop Pitt on 3rd and 28, really cost them the game. Eliminate even a couple of those mistakes and they win this game.
That said, hats off to Pittsburgh.

I think they got about what they expected out of their running game. The passing game obviously didn't live up to what we've seen in previous weeks. And on defense, Seattle seemed able to move the ball without much trouble, they just couldn't finish a drive. Oh, and Joey Porter was a complete non-factor.

And yet somehow won despite Seattle doing a decent job of jamming their run overall...and getting two interceptions. Weird...how did that happen? I could see if Alexander was held below 50 yards and Hasselback was also 9/20 something...

Because Seattle didn't make plays when they needed to, apparently. When were they ever in the redzone even? And the one time they were actually driving with a legitimate chance to score, Hasselbeck threw the ball directly into the hands of Ike Taylor.

Like I said, because of key dropped passes, terrible clock management, stupid penalties and not being able to stop Pitt on 3rd and 28. Giving up a 75 yard run wasn't great either.

You make all those mistakes and expect to win a superbowl game????? C'mon.

The Seahawks outplayed the Steelers as far as pure talent was concerned, but the Seahawks also made way more mistakes, and got screwed by the officiating. You take those two first scores by both teams, and it's a 3 point game, and both of those were BS calls and everyone I know agrees, HORRIBLE calls.

That being said, there was the Hassleback interception, the Parker TD allowed and the poor clock management at the end of the second half. The only mistake that Pittsburgh made was the interception in the red zone. The fact is that the Steelers played a great game, but it should have been a lot closer than it was. I tip my hat to the Steelers for playing so smartly and being so prepared for the game. I hope the Seahawks are back next year, and hopefully a) the calls are even unlike this year, and b) they are able to be more prepared for the game and cut down those mistakes. I think it comes down to them making non-championship like mistakes in a championship game.

I don't think the officiating is going to get any better this year because none of the NFL officials or major sports media people are addressing it. So whatever team wants to win next year should put extra focus on plays to run on 1st and 25 or 2nd and 15 type situations.

Do you know how many teams have won the Super Bowl while still losing the yardage, time of posession and turnover game? None. We outplayed them, and although we may have made a few mistakes more, we also got ROYALLY screwed by some absolutely ridculous calls calls.

How long are Seattle fans going to whine about this? For crying out loud, every team's been on the receiving end of bad calls before and it's not going to change. If it had been Pittsburgh who had a few bad calls you'd be on here laughing about it.

Of course, fans of every team take something away from a loss to cling to like a warm blanket. That's why we'll never forget a certain field goal in the snow in New England, for example.
