And just to clarify, hackers are geeks. Ask any woman out there, there's no distinction.

There, I edited my post to be more on topic.

Sorry, Cras.. once you make MD's ignore list, there's no debating him.

That is just sad. Too typical of a coward to rather run away. I would have had some respect for him if he actually tried to stand up and defend his usage of the word. But now I realize he is just an idiot.

I feel the same way. At least I know that if you and I are ever to debate, I have a better counterpart than that time I tried debating with MD, and got on ignore too.

No, there's no time or place for this. It's called harassment, and it's why I put those people on permanent ignore.

Hey Mal, isn't calling people who come here geeks harassment too? Or do the rules not apply to you?

Well that is why the report feature is there for such instances, to allow mods to know of such infractions that you feel are against board rules and to have measures taken if they deem it nessessary.

Although I'm still not seeing what exactly PP said to warrant such a reaction, but maybe it's just me.

Watch it, cc, you're buckin' for a one way ticket to MD's ignore list!

The mods don't do anything to speak of about such infractions any more. Not long ago someone directed a clearly forbidden obscenity at me in a post. This was a blatant violation of the board rules, and even though it was reported to the moderators, nothing was ever done about it. Other reported violations of the posted rules are not enforced, either. So, since the moderators have decided to let this board return to a free-fire zone, I'm doing my very best to avoid flamewars by keeping the OT crowd and anyone else who starts to get antagonistic on ignore. It's really not that many people - less than half a percent of active posters - and interestingly enough there aren't any people who make any significant contribution to the game on the list.

As to the hacker/geek question, see the Jargon File:

http://www.catb.org/~esr/jargon/html/frames.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jargon_File

The major identifying trademark of the geek is neophilia, the love and driving urge for the new. Every real geek on this board will have pre-ordered OOTP2006; in fact, they couldn't help but pre-order. The biggest ones will be readily identifiable in the coming months, as they will be the ones clamoring loudest for the release of the game.

While I have also expressed some annoyance at the warning policy, it seems that for flagrant fouls, justice is done.

case in point; D'a's three badges of dishonour after posting anti-semite links repeatedly.

What I've noticed is that not only is teh post evaluated but also its' content. That's hwo I've noticed it's effectivness on this board, and while it does seem odd, I play by the rules that are given to me. Are there some folks out there that get off on doing but trolling? Sure there is, every board has them. But some of the folks that I've seen you state you have on ignore are....surprising to me based on my experienes. Parhaps less useage of the ignore stick of blutness may find a more receptive audience? Just a ehlpful suggestion, you get more flies with honey than viegar and all that jazz.

Thanks for the links....but.....where did we start talking about the term "nerd"? The difference between hacker and nerd are night and well...dusk. Parhaps its' an American translation that I'm not versed on?

That's how this thread makes me feel.
