Wow, this is a great thread. Lots of interesting things from the blog itself right through the responses.

I have 2 questions.
1) Can we create a league with an odd number of teams?
2) In the blog Tiger Fan wrote:
Maybe I want my AA Texas League to give me inflated power numbers because they play in a bunch of bandbox stadiums. I leave the equivalencies at the AA level but I boost the homer numbers substantially in the league totals. A guy rips 60 dingers in the Texas League and you better start factoring in the park and league he plays at before thinking he is the next coming of Babe Ruth.

I might realize this but would the COMPUTER recognize this?

I'm tinkering around with some league ideas and I'm thinking I might go with totally independent minor leagues. I'm wondering if the AI would be smart enough not to be fooled by inflated stats in certain leagues.

Thanks!

Yes, the computer shouldn't be fooled, because you're not fundamentally changing a player's power rating. TigerFan's approach is the right one, rather than adjusting the player talent levels.

I believe that the AI will make decisions on players based primarily upon their abilities (ratings/potential), rather than their statistics. Could be wrong about this though!

Ideally it should be a mix, and with GM and manager profiles and tendencies there should be (a few) GMs who value homers in a bandbox at 5800 ft over talent ratings.

I've started toying around with league configurations and so I have another question - Do minor league teams HAVE to be affiliated with a top-level team?

Ultimately I'm wondering - Can minor league players become fa's (I'm thinking "yes") and if they are unafilliated, will any team in the universe be free to sign them?

No, you can make independent minor leagues, or just independent teams. I know I've seen this in some of Markus' postings. (goes to look this up... ah, here we are... "1) yes, that works... those (minor league teams) who are not affiliated will act like independent teams then...")

Definitely. In OOTP6.5 and 6.0 (maybe earlier, don't remember) there are six-year minor league free agents for affiliated minor leaguers. And with indy leagues in the new game they'll operate according to their league rules - and you can pick whether or not to have free agency, how many years of service to be eligible for free agency, etc.

From Markus' blog on customization:

Quote:
...every league can have their own set of options and rules. They include:

- Financial rules (free agency, roster size, foreigner limit, free agent draft compensation, rule 5 draft, amateur draft date and much more). You can also decide if the league may interact with others via trade or free agency.
