Byrnes played one inning in right field for the 2005 O's. Sosa was probably the worst RF in baseball in 2005. Jay Gibbons played quite well there when given the opportunity.

(Funny side note about Jay Gibbons... A couple seasons ago, he was literally our best player. This was before Javy, before Tejada, before anyone, really. I remember going to a game against the White Sox that Gibbons didn't start. It went late into the game, maybe extra innings, I can't remember exactly. Whatever the case, Gibbons was called on to pinch hit. It was the most dramatic walk to the plate for any batter I've ever seen. They played a video hyping Gibbons for at least 60 seconds. His name flashed on the scoreboards, the whole nine. Needless to say, he didn't do a thing. I just thought it was funny -- especially at the time -- that there was that much glitter surrounding Jay Gibbons.)

Interesting that Gibbons spent 46 games at DH so that the O's could get Sosa's "lethal" bat into the lineup. No respect.

Really. The Orioles need to give it up for 2-4 seasons and worry about drafting difference making players and look to compete through the farm system in 5 years. Signing free agents isn't going to turn around this team when there's no more than 2 or 3 good parts to begin with. Reading this book tells me that the Orioles won't win again until Angelos is no longer in control and we get somebody in there who knows what the hell they are doing... |

Does it have any pictures? It's a 586 page book so I'm assuming it does. But I'd be even more interested if it had some decent photographs in there (Memorial Stadium, Camden Yards, etc).

It is really interesting. I like how it starts off talking about how the team was brought to Baltimore, how the city embraced the franchise, etc. It also talks about how the entire organization was structured, defining the "Oriole Way'. It is very detailed the entire way. It is a very good read. Just talking about it makes me want to read it again. |

He publicly backtracked and at the same time apparently was riding the Baltimore front office to deal him anyway.

For what it's worth this seems like one of those NY media rumors that they try to get people to buy papers with because it's indeed too good to be true. NY teams are always apparently " " this close to getting one of the top ten players in the league and giving their salary headaches in return. Nothing new here.

The 3 and 4 way deals are somewhat roto sounding in their silliness. I can't see most of 'em happening.
But, today the Sun and the Herald are each reporting that the Sox are the frontrunners in a Manny/Clement for Tejada deal. The Herald is "reporting" that Manny wants his last two option years picked up now and a "throw-in" of Markikas. A deal may happen this week or next. Ha!
