Rafael deserves a spot as well, when his time comes. So what about McGwire then?

Will Dwight Gooden get in, cause he has had alot of trouble with the law in the past few years

My vote would be just Blyleven and Trammel.

I bet Sutter gets in though. Gross.

Dwight Gooden won't get in because the voters, while moronic at times, aren't picking names out of a hat.

I wouldn't put him in, and it has nothing to do with law trouble...

McGwire is certainly worthy of serious consideration.

Gooden? Nah. Not because of any off the diamond activity, but because his career doesn't measure up.

Blyleven, Gossage and Trammel would get votes from me.

Sutter will probably get in, which makes Gossage's exclusion even more baffling (to me).

Even though the stat is overrated, I thought it was interesting to see that Gooden in 12 career postseason games (9 starts), he never won one (0-4).

If Sutter gets in, every reliever past, present, and future will do a jig, as the door will have been kicked wide open by the new, low standard.

Nah, I would imagine that his rep with the general populace is above what we think of him.

Although, if he gets in, I believe Lee Smith will do a crazy jig because if Sutter gets in, he probably will.

Well in all actuality, neither of them (or any retired reliever I can think of) deserve to be in. I know you're not saying they do, but I'm just throwing it out...

But hey, I'm all for jigs!

If Sutter is in, then it appears that 300 saves becomes the baseline for serious consideration. That makes a host of closers viable candidates.

My pick...Pete Rose only (as a write-in obviously). Yeah, he gambled on baseball and was a despicable character at times, but there are others as well who just who did stuff but didn't get caught. Look at how Ty Cobb used to go into crowds and fight people, or fight anyone for that matter. Some people say he was the nastiest person in all of baseball. Let the accomplishments speak for themselves. If character is an issue, then half (or more) of the Hall should be voted out.

I think McGwire is a shoe-in. Raffy...I'm not so sure of because he was caught doing steroids. If McGwire had been caught, then maybe some backlash.

I know there has been a ton of threads on this, but I'm totally baffled as to how people can consider steroids worse than gambling on baseball.

This issue has been hashed out innumerable times before. Do a thread search if you'd like to tilt at that windmill. Betting on baseball is far more than a character issue.

Fighting is not punishable by permanent ineligibility. Poor character, on its own, is not punishable by permanent ineligibility. Not only is betting on one's own team punishable by permanent ineligibility, but Rose signed an agreement and declared himself permanently ineligible before MLB proved anything.

I don't consider it worse. The fact that Palmeiro got caught right when he was getting 3000 hits and securing his bid may sway the writers.
