Yeah, this does that! You have to leave Historical Editing unchecked during game setup, though.

Team/league visual edits (jersey import/export, logo import/export, color scheme) in-game on its own menu, like OOTP.
I'm aware that the color scheme settings are in the team edit screen but having them in their own menu would be much easier. Not to mention loading in new logos and jerseys, currently you have to dig into the savefile or default template out of the game to do anything with that.

Possibly also a scheme preview - e.g. show an example of what the player squares and scoreboard colors would appear given a color scheme. I've had to deal with invisible text and invisible squares (same-on-same color schemes) one too many times.

You can import a jersey photo or file from the picture menu after you click on a player.

You can do that now! From the manual.

"When trading first-round picks, you can opt to "protect" the picks, with protection options of 1, 3, 5, and 10. If the pick winds up being in the top (specified number) of picks, the trading team will not lose it; instead, the recipient will get their next available first rounder in a subsequent year. Protected picks will have less value in a trade than unprotected picks."

That could take the award for least mentioned thing in FHM ever, TIL. Thanks for that mate.

A feature I think would be interesting for what if purposes would be a fantasy draft/fantasy choosing of players for 2 teams for the Exhibition game simulator at the main menu.

It would be cool to be able to put duplicates of the same players too. I was just imagining what a team of McDavids vs. a team of Draisaitls would be like ect..

Agreed - this would be amazing. Would love to be able to start with the 1993 Montreal Canadiens roster and play the game with random draft classes of unknown prospects to see how the team evolves differently. The part I don't enjoy about historical is that we all know the draft classes so mid/late picks and scouting aren't very valuable.

I wonder if you could accomplish this by creating a historical league in 1992-93, then selecting in the initial setup fictional players, then import the 1992-93 Canadiens and delete out the "old" team. So in this scenario, you'd have all fictional players at the beginning except for the 92-93 Canadiens, and all real teams of the time.

Or you could create a custom league, fictional players, delete all initial teams and import the 92-93 teams one by one. Could be interesting!

Fix the core engine of the game and stop with all the fluff. It seems every year the same problems exist in the main code engine of the whole game. The AI isn't very good when deciding roster moves, trades, line combinations, and especially goalie playing time. It uses the HOT LEVEL way too much. A 2 star goalie making 1M should never play more than a 5 Star goalie making 9 M. But this game does it all the time. Your 5 star goalie in real life would ask for a trade if that were happen! Perhaps use a slide scale. The closer your 2 roster goalie star ratings are, the more likely the hot level will have an effect. The schedule creator generates way to many back to backs. Sometimes I see 2 back to backs with only 1 day between. That's 4 games in 5 days. The AI never adjusts the line minutes to compensate for all the games. The Gm/Coaches should receive award icons next to there name when they win one. The players do why don't the coaches? There's many more issues, but my response is already long enough.

What goalie start settings are you using? I personally put start the hottest goalie at the max, because I want my hottest goalie in the net. The ratings mean nothing if my team isn't winning. If my five star players aren't performing well, then I'll go with the players that are (two stars are otherwise). I do agree the game needs issues addressed, but it also needs improvements and additions each year in order to bring in new players.

But does this grow their customer base, or are the new players just replacing long time fans who leave because they're fed up with long standing issues being ignorned?

So much needs to improve imo:

The 2D is awful in my opinion, everything from the shape of the rink, weird size of icons, colouring of rink, no SOG stat on the main screen - it just looks a mess.

Trade block is still too vague, you can't request a depth centre or top four defenceman etc. This was in EHM going back years ago.

The tactical screens and player roles are poorly implemented and still seem very vague and one dimensional despite some small improvements.

The user interface needs to be more intuitive and desperately needs a more polished redesign.

I support FHM every year by buying it but I can't help but feel it's pretty souless and tried looking. It just lacks those little bits of finish that would give it that much needed immersion.

Depends on what they add I guess. Most hardcore hockey fans/gamers will stick around, so I'd say if there's greater potential of growing the fanbase with the right new features. As is hockey games are very niche when compared to the popularity of the other three major sports and soccer.

Some thoughts for the next versions:

- import a custom created league into a standard game
- adjustment of the national data (population) insofar as this has an impact on the number of youth players generated
- more influence on amateur (farm) and youth teams in Europe
- possibility to also create amateur (farm) and youth teams in Europe and allocation to parent club
- customization option (league structure, new teams) also to Sweden, Germany, Finland in standard games
- more detailed training, which specifically targets individual aspects of the player's game, chemistry
- more interaction with staff during the season (who trains well, who needs an extra session, which player needs a medical check)
- feedback from scouts, trainer of the farm (youth) team on the development of junior players, not only changing the strengths, but who deserves a call up, who has little perspective (trade candidate)
- youth academy, training ground, medical facilities and so on for influence the number and strength of (youth) players, training success, regeneration and other player characteristics
- season opening and closing talk (players, staff, media)
- stadium with schematic 2d inside view (modable)
- stadium editor: expansion possibilities, renovation or addition of stadium areas (restaurants, fanshops, stands, communication technology, …)
- merchandising and advertising negotiations (effect on team budget or points for stadium expansion, owner satisfaction, …)
- fan satisfaction (quality, size of the stadium in relation to the market size, star player, team success in relation to loyalty grade) with impact on ticket demand, merchandising revenue
- players union
- player agents and agencies (trade request, praise of free agents, …)
- scouting combine
- awarding and special presentation of outdoor games, draft, …
- commissioner with comments on the situation of the league (revenue, popularity, …)
- reports in national and regional media on results, outstanding players, special events, community commitment
- extension HHOF (modable) in the direction of player photos, trophies, other objects
- highlighting semi-finals and finals (how long have they waited for this, comments or wishes from former players, …) in the game announcement, media

Thanks for a really great game so far.
