Cards news: May 5 -- Matz suspended for brawl after hit by pitch
St. Louis starting pitcher Steven Matz has been suspended after a brawl ensued following a hit by pitch of Milwaukee's Keston Hiura during the fourth inning of a 7-5 loss to the Brewers on May 5.
With the score 1-0, Matz allowed a pair of home runs in the inning. The first a grand slam by Wilmer Flores. The second a three-run shot by Brice Turang. Matz hit Huira with the first pitch he threw to him, and the benches cleared. Huira will sit for four games. Matz for six. |

Cards news: May 9 -- Flaherty headed to IL with hamstring injury
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed right-handed starting pitcher Jack Flaherty on the 10-day injury list after he suffered a hamstring injury while pitching in an 8-0 loss to Pittsburgh on May 8.
Awarded a three-year extension in the offseason, Flaherty had been nothing short of horrible through his first seven starts of the 2024 season. Including the loss to Pittsburgh, during which he was charged with five runs allowed in just 0.2 innings, Flaherty owns a record of 2-3 over seven starts with a 6.82 ERA. He has worked a total of 31.2 innings, during which he was struck out 34, walked 25 and posted a 1.99 WHIP. St. Louis has not yet decided on how it will reconfigure its starting rotation. |

Cards news: May 10 -- Mullins suspended for four games for charging mound
St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Cedric Mullins has been suspended for four games after he charged the mound after being hit by a pitch by Cincinnati's Joe Boyle during the third inning of the Cardinals' 9-6 11-inning win on May 10 at Busch Stadium.

Cards news: May 11 -- Jordan Walker sent to Memphis; Cameron Leary called up
The St. Louis Cardinals have sent their top hitting prospect outfielder Jordan Walker to AAA Memphis and called up outfielder Cameron Leary.
Walker, 21, was given the Cardinals' right field job after a good spring training. It did not translate to the major league level. In 26 games/24 starts, Walker hit just .129 with five home runs and 11 RBIs. He also scored 13 runs. Leary, who had a great spring training, hasn't tore it up in the minors but the Cardinals would like to see what he does against major-league pitching. The 22-year-old hit .185 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 15 games at AA Springfield. In 24 games at Memphis, Leary has hit .225 with six homers and 16 RBIs. |
