My crude calculation for Ohtani's WAR on this single date (07/27/23) is 2.0

Poke holes in my formula if you care to (a*b)=[WAR on 07/27/23] where a = Ohtani and b= number of games played on 07/27/23

Did he make up for the 0-5, 2K at night? (Can't look at the scores page right now; I want to watch the Mets game from the archives later on)

Are you referring to the MLB app? If so, just turn on the Hide Scores option in Settings. This will hide the scores of games (both archived on the Scores page and — other than the game you are currently watching — while watching live).

I was at the doubleheader yesterday. That was something to see. People missed out (and a lot did) by leaving between games. His opposite field strength, witnessed live, was pretty impressive.

Rod Allen thought, my former team's in town, I must dress up nicely.

Rod Allen then shows up at the ballpark like this:

Yeah, Rod, match the accessories to the tie. Everybody knows that. (Perhaps he couldn't find a wine-colored rosette?)

All joking aside, I think the jacket is actually cool. But salmon does NOT go with blood red. Come on.

At least Miguel Cabrera had a good day (2-4, 2B) on "Venezuelan Heritage Day" in Miami.

The local broadcast dutifully pointed out that it was the biggest attendance in over six years, but "not quite sold out". Yeah, I'd guess about 20% seats still available.

Well, the Tigers almost offloaded Eduardo Rodriguez and his contract, but Rodriguez invoked his limited no trade clause, which guess what, included the Dodgers. Trade was in place and just needed his approval before becoming official.

I’m still upset about yesterday. I’m trying to be patient and gather what all the facts could be but my initial thought is that Harris showed his in-experience and I hope he learns from it.

I made the same post in the MLB 2023 thread...

E-Rod has earned the right to have a no-trade in his contract. He says he likes being in Detroit. It would've been nice for the Tigers to get something for him but it's not the end of the world.

Players say, "It's part of the business," when they get traded. Well, it's also part of the business when a player earns the right to block a trade and he does so.

I don't care that he exercised the no-trade. What I'm trying to figure out is if there was a communication breakdown along the way. You don't leak a deal like this to have it backfire in your face. Not a good look.

Gotcha. I guess I don't think even the leak is that big a deal. That's also part of the business.

The possible trade had to be put out there in order for E-Rod to nix it. Possible trades make the news all the time.

I am not so down on Harris. The Lorenzen deal was good. I'll take a trade involving a guy that has little future with the team for someone else's 20-year-old #5 in system player any time. More likely than not that we'll never see the kid in Detroit but make those kinds of deals all day long, please.

Not all that upset either. Guy had his agents put the no trade stuff in his contract and the Tigers agreed to it. I do think it will be interesting at the end of the season to see if he opts to stay in Detroit or become a free agent.

With the year he is having, he is probably opting out to add more years and get his last contract. That may be in Detroit or it might not.

I'm concerned for Craig Monroe. He must have forgotten to take his pills today or something.

Takeaways from today's 3-0 win against the Twinkies.

Tigers can actually pitch. Sometimes.

Cam's grandma loved Hulk Hogan.

And Cam likes to say "splitty". A lot. A. Lot. (gnashes teeth)
