The Untouchables
The Jamaica Ginger Story 1961 On the night of May 25, 1931, 2 trucks are rolling into K.C., carrying $1-million worth of Jamaica Ginger rotgut, also known as "Ginger Jake." The trucks are owned by Rafael Torrez, gangster and race horse trainer, who has a monopoly on the Jamaica Ginger. Rival crime boss Jerry LaCarva, wanting in on the enormous profits, is ready to hijack the trucks, along with his gang of 5 hoods: the 2 notorious Roth brothers, Andy Bello (alias Louis Belmont), Richie Peters and Wally Heilman. Heilman USMC WW champ Kansas City bootlegger Rafael Torrez (Michael Ansara) runs a lucrative trade in "Jamaica Ginger", a deadly product tainted with wood alcohol. When rival mobsters try to move in on his operation, Torrez hires hitmen Martinson and Garrity (Brian Keith and James Coburn) to eliminate them. The hit is successful, but complications ensue when Martinson is identified to Ness. Garrity kills Martinson's girl when she refuses to provide an alibi, and then attempts to recruit Martinson for a hit on Torrez. Tipped off by Ness about his girl's murder, Martinson pretends to go along with Garrity, but instead helps Torrez to kill him. The film is a mockumentary comedy, in which Bloom plays young milkman Jimmy. He is an amateur boxer who by a bizarre twist of events ends up fighting the world champion in his home town. Jimmy Connelly, an English bachelor milkman, 'accidentally' knocks down his boxing club's champion as stand-in sparring partner. Meanwhile, Pug, a good-hearted but boisterous fellow, takes on a gang of mashers who make unwanted advances to his girlfriend. Impressed by his abilities, the mashers decide to pass Pug off as Cyclone Flynn, the champion, and enter him in the boxing match. But the real Cyclone shows up, and he and Pug battle it out in the ring. Soon the fight progresses to include pistols, rooftop chases, and the Keystone Kops in hot pursuit.
