Are you referring to AL-Star centerfielder Javier Baez?

Yes. Cost us NL All Star centerfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

We could have had TWO All Stars named Pete!

I feel bad for Miguel Cairo the interim manager of the Nationals he is placed in a division with the Phillies and Mets? He has basically no chance of success.

Hey, did you hear about that time DeLeon one-hit a last-place Mets team through 9 innings and got nothing for it? Mets won in 12 when Pittsburgh tried to set up an inning ending GIDP, but George Foster beat the relay to first and Mookie Wilson never stopped running and scored all the way from 2nd?

(In the first game of the double-header, the Mets trailed 6-1 entering the 7th, tied it up, and won that one in 12 as well. Yes, once upon a time, baseball had things called "double-headers" and "extra innings" and gosh! Games might go beyond their designated time-slots! Horrors! )

Unfortunately, I've never been able to find film of this Sunday double-header (which I didn't see but I recall listening to on the radio at our swim club), but here's the game from the Friday before. Tom Seaver vs. John Candelaria, pretty good match-up.

ETA: during the Friday night telecast, Pittsburgh PbP man Lanny Frattare informs us that DeLeon will be starting on Sunday because Don "Caveman" Robinson has been scratched. So that was a pretty good audition in a spot start, not that he got the win, but still.

Just as long as the Pirates don't trade Skenes to the Yankees, Mets, or Dodgers.

Point made.

Except, I am troubled. It really is a video of only one pitch and one swing. At some point, the second ball is being superimposed (manipulated?) into the picture. Given today's technology, it's easy to doctor these things.

DeLeon, REPEATEDLY, gave up a two run homer in the seventh, to lose 2-1. Dude just didn't get run support.

Stuff like this really irks me. Because this fan did not retaliate, this woman is probably going to get a light sentence. Probably a fine & a 3 month probation. When if he did go at her, and rightly so, not only would he probably get arrested. But folks would have claimed there was no excuse to hit a woman. If we want to encourage people to react with non-violence, then when we do remain peaceful, we should see the criminal get double the sentence.

The phrase "just desserts" comes to mind. I am sure that fellow did something unpleasant that caused the young lady to trample him. As it was, she showed remarkable restraint. Good for her! (Just kidding. )

Giancarlo Stanton just hit his 431st home run, tying Cal Ripken Jr. for #50 on the all-time homer list. I was surprised at first to hear this but the dude has been around 16 years now and is 35 years old. Imagine how many he would have if he was not injured much of the time.

They showed a slow-mo closeup replay on YES. Man, this guy is built like the proverbial Mack truck. The arm muscles rippling as he swung, wow. But it's that same musculature that has led to many of his injuries, I will wager. Whenever he runs anywhere, much less slides, I cringe.

One of the things baseball has over other sports: Non-standard playing fields.

There's a nice hefty fine. Serves them right for bothering players & coaches while the game is going on.

Can't argue about the humanistic side anymore; not with mistakes being picked up by fine-tuned cameras and being plastered all over social media. It's embarrassing to the sport.

EDIT: There are two more interesting things in that article.

First, "Like almost any rule change, there were mixed reviews from players about using ABS but nearly all parties agree on one point: They prefer a challenge system as opposed to the technology calling every pitch." I wonder why.

Second, "As was the case in spring training, once a review is initiated, an animated replay of the pitch will be shown on the scoreboard and the home plate umpire will either uphold the call or overturn it. ABS uses Hawk-Eye system technology which tracks the pitch trajectory and location in relation to the strike zone, providing an instant assessment which can be relayed to the home plate umpire." My bold. Is this accurate? I mean, the home plate umpire will be judging his own performance. How is that going to work?
