No-Hit Masterpiece by deGrom:

Is it better to be lucky or good?

After leading the Indiana State Sycamores to victory, 17-0, and tossing a no-hitter over the Kent State Golden Flashes, Jacob deGrom didn't have the answer.

"I don't know," deGrom said. "To do what I did today, I'm pretty sure it takes both."

On his big day at Sycamore Stadium, deGrom fanned 16 and had no walks. And it seemed that when the Golden Flashes managed to hit the ball hard, it went right at a defender.

"That's how you get a no-hitter," deGrom said with a smile. "A lot of skill mixed with a little luck."

In 9 starts this season, deGrom has recorded 3 wins and absorbed 3 losses. He has pitched 64.2 innings, allowed 47 hits, struck out 97 and has a 2.51 ERA.

Keeler's Hit Streak Reaches 25 Games:

Illinois State right fielder Willie Keeler keeps on racking up hits every time he plays.

His hitting streak now stands at 25 games after collecting 1 hit at Lupton Stadium today. The Redbirds took the 5-3 victory over the TCU Horned Frogs.

"I have been seeing the ball really good the last few weeks, but I am a bit surprised how things are working out," Keeler said. "I've gotten a couple flares to drop in, so I've also been a little lucky."
Willie Keeler singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, was hit by a pitch in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.

This year Keeler is batting .335 with 9 home runs and 22 RBIs. In 44 games he has scored 33 times.

Tigers End Keeler's Streak:

Willie Keeler's sizzling hitting streak was snapped at 29 games today as the Illinois State Redbirds dropped their contest with the LSU Tigers 2-1 at Alex Box Stadium. Keeler failed to get a hit, finishing 0-for-3.

After the game Keeler spoke with BNN and called his effort "quite a streak."

"I just ran into some good pitching today," he said.

This season in 49 games, Keeler has hit at a .344 clip with 67 hits, 11 home runs, 26 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

20 Straight Losses for Bisons:

Lipscomb Bisons' fans were visibly shocked by their teams inability to win after today's 20th straight loss. "This is an outrage", said Steve Jones, a longtime Lipscomb Bisons season ticket holder. "These guys are a disgrace. It is beyond obvious that they don't even care about the fans at this point. I guess they are just showing up for a paycheck."

Lipscomb Bisons Manager, Jesse Wagner, appeared to be at his breaking point during post game press conference. "I'm sick and tired of dumb questions! Embarrassed? Of course I'm embarrassed. These guys call themselves professionals but they play like little leaguers. I'll take responsibility but the GM and owner, Matt Star, need to take some as well. They are the one's who stuck me with these guys."

With that, he walked out of the press conference. Suffice to say, it is likely there will be repercussions in the coming days.

Medwick Slugs 400th Home Run:

A big sigh of relief erupted from Joe Medwick after he hit his 400th career homer. The Florida Atlantic left fielder said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Medwick. He got his name in the league record books with 2 hits, 4 runs batted in, scored 3 runs and his team, the Florida Atlantic Owls beat the Kansas Jayhawks 7-6.

Medwick knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 400th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

Medwick currently has a career .297 batting average with 1346 hits, good for 400 home runs, 965 RBIs and 795 runs.

Hoskins Launches Number 300:

It was a historic day for Arizona's fine first baseman Rhys Hoskins. He slammed home run number 300 in the Wildcats 8-7 loss to the Miami Hurricanes at Alex Rodriguez Park.

He told reporters after the game that he was disappointed in losing the game. "It's great to get that many homers, but I don't play for homers -- I play to win. That's the name of the game."

In his milestone-making game Hoskins went 2 for 4, scored 2 runs and collected 2 RBI. That home run put him in a select group of ballplayers.

Hoskins has a .256 career batting average and has hit a total of 300 home runs.

300 Homers for Jones:

"I wasn't trying to hit a homer. I just wanted to make contact."

That's what Garrett Jones told reporters after he made baseball history today at Boshamer Stadium. The prolific slugger belted home run #300 in the UCF Knights 2-1 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The standout first baseman collected 2 hits in 2 at-bats with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

"I guess this puts me in baseball's elite," said Jones. "I don't feel any different. I probably should, but I don't. Still, it is a nice achievement. I did get a little excited, didn't I?"

In 850 career games Jones has hit .277 with 897 hits, 300 home runs, 719 RBIs and scored 542 runs.

Yikes! It almost seems impossible to lose that many consecutive games.

Klein Raps 400th Roundtripper:

It's official. Chuck Klein of the Tennessee Volunteers hit his 400th home run tonight.

The Tennessee Volunteers took on the Old Dominion Monarchs and downed them 3-2, but the big story of the night was the milestone home run for Klein. He rounded the bases with a smile and politely stepped on home plate and walked back to the dugout.

"400 is a big number, and I am thankful for the ability to get to this milestone. But it's all about the team today, my accomplishments are just one piece to the Volunteers puzzle."

The Volunteers right fielder went 1-for-4 with 1 home run and 1 RBI as the Tennessee Volunteers topped the Old Dominion Monarchs.

His career numbers show Klein has batted .308 and collected 1315 hits, 400 home runs and 972 RBIs.

Yelich Launches Number 300:

Did you catch a home run yesterday? One lucky fan has a prize possession after Christian Yelich crushed his 300 home run tonight.

Yelich offered the lucky fan some souvenirs and a small cash prize in exchange for the ball. The fan who caught the ball has been identified, but has not yet commented on his intentions.

"That's one you would kind of like to keep," Yelich said.

The Panthers right fielder went 2 for 4 with 1 home run and 1 run batted in as the Pittsburgh Panthers won 5-4 over the UCF Knights.

The Panthers will be hosting a Christian Yelich commemorative poster promotion for an upcoming homestand.

Lifetime Yelich has compiled a .312 batting average and collected 1417 hits, 300 home runs and 765 RBIs.

Williams wins 2030 HR Challenge:

The 2030 Home Run Challenge might've been an exhibition. But that didn't lessen the intensity for the contestants. Cy Williams, the TCU Horned Frogs left fielder, won it all, after out-bashing Harold Baines in the final round by a score of 18-9.

"We're competitors, first and foremost," said Williams. "We each were serious about winning this thing."

Williams has played in 500 games with a .275 lifetime batting average. Among his 493 hits are 87 doubles, 4 triples and 189 home runs. He also has scored 337 runs and driven in 434 runs.

Nash Dominates in 8-2 Win over National League All-Stars:

NCAA put its best players on the field today, and the game certainly showed that.

In the annual Midseason Classic, the American League came out over the National League by a final score of 8-2. Leading the way for the American League All-Stars was third baseman Billy Nash.

"I go out there and do my best every game, All-Star game or not," the star said after his great show, going 1-for-3 in the contest.

Nash has registered a career batting average of .306 with 468 hits, 114 homers and 300 RBIs.

Ramos Sizzles with 25-Game Batting Streak:

Wilson Ramos has been ripping hits every day for a while now, and nobody seems able to stop him. The Northwestern catcher picked up 1 more today against the North Florida Ospreys and now has a 25-game hitting streak. The Wildcats won the game 9-2.

"Definitely somebody's going to stop me at some point," he said later, chuckling. "I'll enjoy it for the time being."
Wilson Ramos flied out in the 2nd, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th and struck out in the 7th.

This season Ramos has hit 20 home runs and posted a .293 batting average.

Ennis Launches Number 400:

Del Ennis circled the bases and raised his arm in triumph. He had finally hit his 400th home run. It was a homer for a lot of people: himself, his teammates past and present, his former managers and coaches, and especially his family, who sat near the plate cheering his every at-bat during the past few games.

Ennis spoke with BNN and said, "I knew number 400 would come sooner or later. I had to keep reminding myself, 'Relax, relax, just let it happen, let it happen.' And it finally did."

His milestone homer came in the Florida State Seminoles 3-2 win over the Colorado Buffaloes. Ennis went 2 for 6 in the game, scored 2 runs, and batted in 2.

In his career Ennis is hitting .310 with 1401 hits, 400 home runs, 845 runs scored and 1004 RBIs.
