During a game against the Yankees at Hilltop Park on September 11, 1906, Americans second baseman Hobe Ferris, notorious for his hard style of play, got into a nasty fight with Jack Hayden, who was accused by Ferris of lackadaisical play. After they were separated, Hayden returned to the bench and Ferriss ran after him and kicked him in the face.

So here's "kicked-in-the-face" Jack Hayden...

Billy Lauder played major league ball for five years. Four of his five teams finished over .500. He was well-known as a college-educated man who exhibited gentlemanly behavior on the field and did not get in fights with other players or umpires.

So, here's never-kicked-in-the-face-by-Hobe-Ferris Billy Lauder...

Per bRef Bullpen wiki: "From 1902-1904 Billy Gilbert was either second or third each year in hit-by-pitch." Also this insight: "Billy stood 5' 4" tall, so he was not a tall man."... but he's probably known best for his years as Detective Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU... Either way, here's Billy Gilbert...

Dan Kerwin hit .667 in his only two major league games, going 4-for-6 with a double, two walks, and an RBI. Later, at the time of the Russo-Japanese war, it was claimed that Kerwin, who played for Louisville, had a "Japanese cast of countenance". Source: The book The Minor League Milwaukee Brewers.

I pulled up both the bRef photo and the alternate photo on his bRef Bullpen wiki page (which had to be lightened a bunch) and my facegen came pretty close to what was there as a facial structure. So I elected to use the existing one and just tweak it... Here's Dan Kerwin, forever batting .667...

Ike Butler won nearly 200 games in the minors but he saw fleeting action in the majors in 1902 with the Baltimore Orioles. He managed a 1-10, 5.34 record, completing 12 of his 14 starts (16 appearances total). He set a Deadball Era record for most hits allowed per 9 innings that season with 12.997.

Hoping he's pitching against you, here's Ike Butler...

Bob (or "Bobby") Cummings was San Francisco's #1 pick in 1978, #7 overall. But he ran aground in Shreveport, spending four seasons with the Captains, despite decent numbers for a catcher. Finally in 1985 he made it to AAA Phoenix…for all of two games, before they put him on the Choo-Choo back to Chattanooga and AA, where the Mariners had no interest in promoting him, either. (Even though he did out-hit Edgar Martinez.)

In my game, he was much more rapidly promoted, and reached the Bay before he reached age 21. Well done.

(The strangely-similar 1983 and 1984 stats are apparently not a typo; they appear that way on Bob's 1985 card, as well.)

Nice piece on Hobe. not sure if he's a "sparkplug" or "outspoken" kinds guy in the game morale system but he's something. And an '03 sox, so all good with me.

Here's Uncle Bill Hallman the Elder. I kept and colored the facegen you had if only because the one of his younger self looks so much like his nephew.

Those '83 and '84 stats are eerily similar, Amazin'. Here's hoping he gets another 95 games, 311 PAs and 282 ABs in the sim - just for alternate world symmetry.

Anyway, here's Bob Cummings, catcher of your early 80s Giants - with great defense to boot...

Just added some color. Glad I did. I couldn't shake the old one looking like a fan-fic Lt. Cmdr Data just before he snaps and murders the crew of the Enterprise...

Anyway, Here's Bill Hallman, the younger...

Is it me or does Bob have a touch of the early Travolta about him?

John Ashley Gammons was a multi-sport legend at Brown University. He logged 103 PA for the Boston Braves before finding his true calling. You see, J.A. Gammons - Daff Gammons - was per The Standard newspaper "one of the leading insurance agents of Providence."

I had no facegen in my library so used the one of him as an insurance agent (and founder of the firm). I included both the bRef Major and Minor League codes. The game imports with the Major ID (gammoda01.fg) in the Minor slot. If they ever fix the database to add the Historical Minor ID, the gammon001joh.fg will become the new primary facegen. Same file.

Billy is currently our everyday catcher. He's had his ups and downs - fantastic '01, down year last year, started promisingly in '03.

All for $620 per.

Ed McMackin had his big season in 1896. Playing for the Atlantic League's Paterson Silk Weavers, he went 25–16 with a 2.83 earned run average in 384.1 innings pitched. Despite being suspended for several games for pitching while drunk, he was the ace of the Paterson pitching staff, leading the team in wins and innings.

Go Silk Weavers! As for the facegen, I actually used the same one, consulted the lone picture of him, and tried to shape him like a police sketch artist. A police sketch artist being told what the assault-accused drunkard at the bar looked like...
