Ninth inning heroics by KC kept everything static.

They need to get a win tonight before the rookie starter/bullpen extravaganza hits on Thursday.

I'll come back to post this: I was at the Twins and Royals game last night (my wife and I take our three kids and go to at least 40-50 games a year and give away the rest for work). That crowd was an embarassment. Especially after the ridiculous spectacle I had to sit though on Monday with the Yankees and Jeter. When I looked in the paper, it showed 13,000 last night. It was embarrassing.

Looks like that rookie starter/bullpen extravaganza may be sticking around for the rest of the season. Reports say Sanchez may done for the season.

Did they hold a raffle at last nights game and he was the lucky fan that was chosen to throw a pitch in the big leagues?

Question, is our farm system in worse shape now than it was after Bo and the other pizza man completely did away with scouting?

The raffle winner made it through 2 innings! If they can limit the BP to 6 innings of work today we'll have to declare that a victory.

The rookie did alright!

one on in the eighth with two out: Coke comes in and promptly surrenders a single before notching the needed out.

Heart attacks and near-disasters never show up in the stats. He'd lead the league.

... and Avila gets it done!

Coke, single, 1 out, thousands of near-heart attacks, vulture win.

Trotting another rookie out there tomorrow with the DH.

Putkonen is starting a re-hab assignment, Will Sanchez be back at all? I have no idea what the status of Soria and Hanrahan are.

Unless one of these rookies catches lightning in a bottle for a short spell or everything breaks right with these injuries it may be a frustrating September. I just hope that they can fight to the finish and not hand the division to KC with a nasty losing streak.

Look, let's be honest here... It's really nice to have the starting pitching staff we have but we have learned in the past that alone doesn't win the Series. Cabrera is either hurt or started his decline (I think the former), he has turned into a slap hitter with gap power. Martinez is carrying the team and when he gets any help from anybody else we can beat anybody especially if our starter can go 7+ innings. Verlander proved he is still our "go to guy" but Scherzer is a horse. Porcello has learned how to use his tools to be a very good pitcher and now hopefully Verlander can learn a few things from him. In the end unless our role players (Davis, Castellanos, Avila, Suarez, etc...) can pick up the slack we are looking at post-season disappointment at best. What bothers me even more is we seem to have lost that aggressive base running that had teams on their heels at the beginning of the season. I don't know (maybe just another drunken rant) but I still think we are talented enough to win it this year if we can get it together and get hot at the right time.

Porcello on the mound today while KC sends out Duffy (8-11). Duffy is better than his record though, appears to have gotten poor run support.

Anyway, can't believe that they have a chance to be back up by a game with Rick pitching.

This team is going to have to find some outfielders this off season. Felt bad for Porcello yesterday. Meanwhile, Eaton made it obvious to everyone watching how important a good center fielder is to a team and its pitching staff.

This Lobster kid may be the rookie pitcher to fill the gap temporarily - he has looked reasonably good in his two outings.

Something is amiss here... dare I say Phil Coke has been the most reliable arm out of the bullpen recently??? (8 games, 9.1 IP, 1 BB, 7 SO, 1 ER)

He hasn't been a horror show of late but I wouldn't call him 'reliable'. There are some heart stopping moments in those stats that don't show up. Without digging into the appearances, it would surprise me if there weren't at least 3 instances where he was on the verge of implosion. I think he's rolled snake eyes more than a few times and it isn't repeatable.

I've got a bad feeling about this... season.

If Detroit doesn't make it this year I'm rooting for KC all the way. The one thing I'm enjoying about this year is all the non-usual teams like KC, Seattle, etc in the hunt.

Guys, this is my fault. After I called the Tigers/A's ALCS, I doomed both our teams. Collapse x 2. I'm deeply sorry.

I find Tigers/Athletics to be a good call.

For the wild card game.
