Buuba seemed to give up a lot of walks in early in his career, and consequently had a lot of high pitch counts (150+) His control did seem to to improve a lot in 1935. I would guess his BB/9IP ratio was about 2-3 this year.

Any idea if Bubba will follow his dad into politics one his playing days are over?

Yes, his walks per 9 is getting better....surprisingly, as I tweaked the settings for walks 3 years ago, to make them easier to get.

This resulted in more runs per game, and more players with 100+ walks.

I also tweaked up HR a bit.

I was a little concerned when I did this, as Bubba's weaknesses were in walks and in homeruns.

Posting box scores:

A previous poster suggested taking a screenshot, then posting that as a picture.

I would love to do that, unfortunately, I haven't a clue how to do get it done.

Could some kind soul please document....EXACTLY....the steps necessary to do this? I am running Windows 98.

Thanks. I would really like to continue to share Bubba's career. I have played into June of the next year, and I think you'all would be very interested to hear what has transpired.

Just had to chime in here...I have read, over the last hour+ the story of Bubba (at least the first 13 pages) and I wanted to say, "Thanks" for a fantastic read. I enjoyed it so much, I posted a thread on my main forum "Redszone.com" just so others could enjoy it. Im dying to find out how Bubba did, but I DO have to work in the am...so with that I'll say goodnight and thanks again....

oh, wait, one last thing...one of the funniestthings I've ever read: "Why do I have to wear this stupic Mexican hat?!?"

I am utterly clueless on how to design, or update a site, but it is something I have wanted to try for awhile.

After extensive experimentation, I have developed a half-a$$ work around to post box scores.

As you can see, Bubba is 10-3, it is June 14.

The Cubs are 42-17, crushing everyone in sight.

I will go through some of the highlights for the Cubs (and Bubba) for the first 60 games, and will continue to post each future game for the rest of his career.

The html commands are not working properly, to align the data....I may just post his pitching line, along the the paragraph describing the game.

And Bubba's letters, of course.

After converting to OOTP5, I discovered, much to my horror, that there is no provision to cut/paste box scores....and I have yet to figure out how to archive a player in any usable format to place on this board.

I am left with the only option to manually transcribe each result. You can see how abysmal the recent results have been.

There is no way I am prepared to do that for the last 100 or so starts in his career.

Compounding the problem, towards the end of the previous year, I renamed the retired file, to check on current leaders. I neglected to change it back before converting to OOTP5. I lost the entire retired history of my 36 year old league. Major bummer.

For the Bubba fans out there, I am in the process of finishing his career.

I will post the final results in the next week.

It is (in Bubba's universe) now 1941.

Amazing happenings over the last 4 years.

I will finish his career, and, if I may indulge myself a little bit, also create a suitable completion to the story.

I have had an enormous amount of fun with Bubba, and I will likely attempt another history, but with a different era and background.

The writing bug has bit a little bit, and I have been blocking out/writing a novel. This is something I have pondered for many, many years. I have been spending quite a large percentage of my free time with this......greatly encouraged by the support and kind words from fans of Bubba and this story.

I apologize for just dropping the story, I am close to completing it.

Heh, no, I don't mind.

Without going into too much detail, kind of a cross between the personal elements of Starship Troopers...the military training of a new recruit in an advanced society...coupled with the old computer game Privateer (or Freelancer, now).

Nice thing about being off-planet is a virtually limitless pool of events and locales.

If there are any naval history fans out there, there is a terrific series of books by Alexander Kent, about a young man named Richard Bolitho. Very highly recommended by yours truly.

This author takes young midshipman Bolitho, and writes a series of novels, developing his character with time, from 1773 to 1805.

This is kind of what I did with Bubba. Slowly reveal portions of his character, intertwining them with actions and events.

Good thing is that I will get a shot at re-writing my book as many times as it takes!

I have an advisor with a book company. She is encouraging me, and apparently there are so few authors out there, they are able to play nursemaid to aspiring authors to help them along. I really don't care about the money, but this book has been in my head for years.

I do have some copywrited materials already, but they are in the form of FAA Technical Manuals....pretty dry stuff!

It has been this forum that has finally given me the confidence and desire to get this thing done. I truly am grateful for this.

dsvitak...i love bubba and ill tell you how to do boxes really quick.....well you can press "print screen" while having the screen you want open. Then goto paint and cut and paste the parts of the box score you want, you can limit it.....then save it as JPG or something and attach it....i find it much easier

dsvitak... if there's anything I can do to help, let me know. I spent two years as a professional science fiction editor, so I know a lot about the field. I'm trying to make the jump to novelist myself right now.

This is worrisome, as the second part is incredibly untrue. I hope you're assuming that yourself rather than having it told to you. If the publisher asks you for money, run and fast.

By the way, books you ought to be looking at - Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series, the first book is The Warrior's Apprentice, is an incredibly popular (and good) series that's fairly similar. There are quite a few others on very similar themes, and I can give you a list if you want, but that's the big one at the moment. It's a pretty successful subgenre, so I wouldn't worry too much about repeating territory others have covered.

Sorry to everyone else for going so far off topic.

There is another series of novels that might interest you as well. C.S. Forrester wrote 12-15 novels on a character called Horatio Hornblower. Same time period, he is an English midshipman who progresses through his career and the character is developed quite well by the author.

A&E created a mini-series of a couple of the novels a few years ago and is now available on DVD.

Excellent read.

Yeah, I have read all of Forrester's works.

I am a true history nut, and if I told you how many books I have on the subject, you would likely call me a liar.

Naval history, and ancients have a particular interest with me.

I played tabletop games for many years, before 'puters.

Even now, I have just about every game ever published on the subject.

It is the curse of too many interests, too little time.

Bubba is now 35 years old, still pitching for his beloved Cubs.

Professionally, the last couple of years have been good to Bubba.

1938 was a truly spectacular year, a year in which Bubba won 24 games, and the Cubs, another World Series.

During the conversion to OOTP5, I lost all the league records, and the HOF.

In the new dynamic, Jones' numbers are good.
194 wins as a 35 year old would have placed him in the top 25 of all time.

The strikeout totals are good, at 2838, and Bubba is just 2 innings shy of 3000.

Bubba has not won a Cy Young award, but has won pitcher of the month twice, and player of the game on many, many occasions.

Fredric Sims:

Fred retired in 1938, at the age of 37.

His decline was rapid, much more rapid than I had expected.

His final numbers: 372 HR (11th or so all time), and 1400 RBI, as well as a .305 lifetime average.

Fred moved back to Detroit, to be with his family. He is taking life easy, and is considering starting an insurance business.

Henry Krebs:

Henry is still playing for the Cubs, but is increasingly concerned about his family in Germany. He hasn't heard from many of them for almost 3 years. Being a Jew, he is not allowed to return to Germany, and his letters to the German government go unanswered.

Frank Schlesinger:

Leadoff man extraordinaire, Frank is a 34 year old hitting maching, cranking out 200+ hits year after year, now 10 years in a row. He will likely end up with over 3000, (and with only 500 or so walks!). His current hit total is 2413.

James Benning:

A solid and steady player, also cranking out the hits and rbi. He will likely be a HOF candidate upon retiring. Now at age 36, with 2468 hits.

Michael Carney

The Cub's ace is now 31, with a 162-75 record. His lifetime WHIP is a sparkling 1.01.

Carney has won 3 Cy Youngs, and is "truly in a class by himself"

Johnny Vanatta:

Now 32, with 2270 hits, he is solid as the #2 man. Like Frank, he will likely end up with over 3000 hits for his career, and a spot in the HOF.
