Here's an off-the-beaten-track item I came across. Madden's last fight, a ko of novice George Avery in Miami (Capone's playground), was four months prior to his peculiar death. Was he rubbed out just like Bill Brennan? Did he have a fatal illness and choose suicide? I have trouble believing he fell by accident.

I don't know Cap, if someone wants to commit suicide, jumping 20 feet isn't one of the better ideas that a guy could come up with. And if the boys thought his memory was a little too good, a 20 foot fall where survival is highly possible wouldn't seem like a great choice either.
Maybe their were some "friends" at the hospital waiting to assist.

I dunno. Even 20 feet is higher than a two-storey house, especially if you've been sapped before hand. The mob was pretty thick in Miami, where Madden's last fight was. Could easily be he backed out of taking a dive against this guy George Avery, who was nothing, and got whacked. He would've been the heavy favourite to beat Avery. According to guys like Owney "The Killer" Madden (no relation) plenty of fights were being fixed in those days. His death just seems very peculiar.

Is Madden's over all rating correct? The game has him as a 12.

I think I have him at 8 or 9 Overall. He was a pretty fair boxer with a decent right hand and a solid beard. Gene Tunney was the only one to stop him, late in his career.
This photo is of him around the time of the Tunney fight. Cap
