The St. Louis Cardinals have placed rookie infielder Thomas Saggese on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a back strain during a 7-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics on May 30.
Saggese, 23, is expected to be out for up to three weeks. Since being called up to the majors on May 10, Saggese has played in 15 games and hit .276 with one home run and eight RBIs. Getting called up from AAA Memphis is veteran outfielder Kevin Kiermaier. Signed to a minor-league contract by the Cardinals on May 28, the 35-year-old Kiermaier has played in four games for the Redbirds. In those contests, he has hit .429 with two RBIs. |
