1995 MLB Draft
The first overall draft pick in 1995 was, no surprise, a college pitcher. Alejandro Francis has four possible pitches and good movement and control to go with it. He does not field his position well at all, though. The first hitter drafted was a Texas third baseman named Fred Blakely. He has elite potential for contact, gap power, and home run power. |

1995 MLB Playoffs
It's always a bad year when the Padres win the World Series. They're up to 8 now. The Blue Jays are right in the middle of their best shot to win a title and so far have come up empty.

1995 Hall of Fame
Shigeru Koizumi, SS Koizumi's eight gold gloves tell you all you need to know about his career. He was a defensive wizard at shortstop, holding down the position for the Cubs for nine years before transitioning to third base in his 30s. His best year was at age 26 when he finished 2nd in the MVP voting behind Monty Hutchinson. He becomes just the second Japanese-born player in the Hall of Fame after the ageless wonder Tsuneyoshi Yamashida. Initial Acquisition: Number 12 overall pick by the Cubs out of Ashwaubenon MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 0, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 1, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 8, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 0, All-Star Appearances - 5, World Series Championships - 2, Playoff MVPs - 0 Career Stats: 10459 PA, 2761 H, 84 HR, 402 SB, 0.308 wOBA, 94 wRC+, 180.2 ZR, 55.9 WAR, 46.3 JAWS Robert Bennett, 1B Bennett was a home run slugging, switch-hitting, slick-fielding first baseman with the Blue Jays, Devil Rays, and Rockies. Initial Acquisition: Number 2 overall pick by the Blue Jays out of Florida State MLB Awards: Tomas Reed MVP Awards - 1, Timo Fernandez Rookie of the Year Award - 0, Youssef Raadouni Gold Glove Awards - 1, Paul Vines Slugging Awards - 2, All-Star Appearances - 3, World Series Championships - 0, Playoff MVPs - 1 Career Stats: 9022 PA, 2109 H, 344 HR, 11 SB, 0.352 wOBA, 123 wRC+, 100.7 ZR, 51.5 WAR, 43.7 JAWS Pablo Torres, 1B Torres had a borderline HOF career but was unable to hold his value into his 30s. He had multiple 5-6 WAR campaigns throughout his career, but at age 29 became an average player and never looked back. 1996 Top 100 Prospects
Boas Hansen keeps the top spot for one more year as he looks to stay in the Astros rotation this year. He had little success last year in nine games in relief for the team and his curveball will probably never be anything good. However, the rest of his stuff is dominant and his control continues to grow as well. Sam DeSousa was drafted 5th in last year's draft and has power, speed, and tons of range in centerfield. His only real weakness is his arm which could be described as a noodle. But he worked hard for that noodle arm! |

1996 College Playoffs
The National Title was a Green Wave this year. Tulane has won previously, but it was 93 years ago in 1903.

1996 MLB Draft
The first player taken in the draft was actually a hitter! John Land has top-of-the-line speed and solid potential across the board. D.J. Hensley went second in the draft with his three-pitch arsenal that is nearly MLB-ready. The top high schooler was Xavier Carrigan, a right-handed catcher out of Oregon with tons of offensive potential but not much of a chance to stay behind the dish on defense. |

The Pirates took out the Dbacks who took out the Brewers and all they did was lose to the Astros in the World Series. That's number 3 for Houston.

Benjamin Aguirre Breaks Home Run Record!
Benjamin Aguirre broke one of baseball's most revered records - the most home runs in a single season. He and Desmond Lovett went back and forth all year, but Aguirre pulled away at the end, finishing with an impressive 60. Lovett finished with 54. The previous record was held by Hall of Famer Donovan Greer who hit 50 in 1960.
It still waits to be seen if this record will be pushed farther ahead in the coming years as home runs have been jumping off the bat lately. |

1996 Hall of Fame
Kurt Zubiate, 1B
Zubiate makes a borderline case for the Hall but never had the elite production necessary. He did put up some impressive offensive numbers during his time but he never even finished in the top three of MVP voting. He was a doubles machine, finishing one shy of 400 for his career which is 15th all-time for first basemen. 1997 Top 100 Prospects
Last year's top two draftees are this year's top hitter and pitcher. First is John Land, whom the Red Sox have been getting some reps at shortstop. The top pitcher is D.J. Hensley who is just about ready to jump into the Cardinals' starting rotation. Last edited by stealofhome; 03-24-2020 at 01:16 PM. |
