I've never seen a No. 1 jersey take the field for the Reds, because Fred Hutchinson passed away long before I was born. But his legacy lives on in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, as well as being the first person to have his jersey retired by the Reds...

Cleveland Indians' second baseman Bobby Avila (#1) hooks his right foot across home plate, but to of no avail, as the Yankees Yogi Berra has already put the tag on the skidding 'Injun.' The action occurred in the first inning of the tribe-New York game at Yankee Stadium on June 4th, when Al Rosen lifted a pop fly to Yankee infielder Gerry Coleman. Coleman whipped the ball to Berra nabbing Avila, who tried to score from third.
